The reason why history seems to stop at the cotton gin is probably because that's when the books they have in school were written

My first reaction was, who cares. You and, from what I read, most of the other people in this thread have no idea who invented these things or how the majority of the things around you work and you all, presumably, ended up OK. So what's the issue? You can operate a computer without having the slightest idea how it works.

Then, however, I read a little more closely. I can see the merit in putting these revolutionaries on a pedestal if only to make young people want to emulate them; better Tesla than Eminem.

I can't see why history seems to stop. Is it because those inventions are a little to current to be considered history? Maybe my joke hit a little closer to the truth than I realized.
