It is not true that Mayan pyramids have 9 tiers.
From a Mayan archaeologist
2012: Prophet of nonsense #1: Carl Johan Calleman – 2012? No, 2011!
He[Calleman] believes that most pyramids in the Maya area had nine levels (some did but most of them did not have nine platform
levels).
Well, that was the pretext for our discussion the other day, 9 steps / 9 levels, 28 Octubre. No one I know here in Mexico seems too worried about the
end of the world but pondering the most current doomsday prediction can kill some time on a Sunday afternoon. Neither my indigenous friend nor our
local pyramid are Mayan but P'urhépecha so not really our bailiwick, but kept with the current 28 October 2011 topic. It perhaps is worth mentioning
that the only pyramid I've spent any time on is ours nearby at Tzintzuntzan, Michoacán, Mexico so I am not addressing this thread with any authority.
I'm not sure the P'urhépechas had any calendar of any particular note either.
I suppose you have successfully debunked any casual notions we may have had by pointing out that the Mayan calendar and their pyramids shared no sort
of structural relationship. Pity. We had hoped the supposed correlation provided some sort of clue that there would be a less apocalyptic outlook for
what the end of the calendar holds in store. A long, slow rise with similar descent seemed quite do-able in light of other prophesies going around.
Though not particularly unsettling your revelation nonetheless dashes our hopes for our simple solution - a few more months of semi-tolerable but
lessening insanity followed by a slowing back into a more tranquil state. Just three more days to the 28th, which also seems to be somewhat debunked
as well, so I guess we just have to wait untill December 2012 which has been the more popular date to see what transpires.
We were rather hoping the 28th would pass hardly noticed but could assume all happened as predicted and were looking toward a more optimistic future,
assuming we survived past the 29th. Thanks for pointing out our folly.
