Source: Reuters * Storm off Louisiana coast headed for landfall soon * Likely to become cyclone before hitting land - NHC * Separate system brewing over southeastern Gulf MIAMI, July 5 (Reuters) - A storm packing heavy winds in the Gulf of Mexico is likely to strengthen into a tropical cyclone before it tears into coastal Louisiana on Monday evening, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said. It said the storm, centered about 50 miles (80 km) south-southeast of Morgan City, Louisiana, was already packing sustained winds near tropical storm force. There was a "high chance" it will become the second named storm of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season before it makes landfall in the Terrebonne Parish area near Caillou Bay early Monday evening, the Miami-based hurricane center said. Forecasters at the hurricane center were also keeping close watch over an area of disturbed weather in the southeastern Gulf that could strengthen into a tropical depression later this week, potentially hampering oil spill clean-up efforts.

This seems to be coming in fast and furious. Looks like its going to be a very active storm season this year unfortunately.

I checked Stormpulse last nite and they didn't think it was going to be any big deal. Going back to check right now. Thank you for the update!

IMHO I think its to close to shore to develop in to any thing major.
With that said the cyclonic nature of the storm looks like its going to push alot of the slick toward Mobile bay and the Pensacola area.

I hope your right about it being to close to shore to develop. I couldn't find any info on preparations that might be going on.

If it just sits and spins over open water then its a hole new ball game.
But beyond that there is a Coastal flood watch until Thursday.
