" it seems very strange they would leave thir eggs. "

I cannot see a coyote, a pack of coyotes, or other medium sized preditors trying to take on 27000 large birds--and being successful at least. Animals are typically very defensive concerning nests, and young.

One of the large colonies was on an island in the lake. I think that disqualifies a land based predator.

There were 2,400 not 24,000 left over. I don't really think a pole shift scare is the cause. I'm not an animal specialist by any stretch of the imagination but I would think that the biggest problem with a pole shift will be navigation for the birds and not fear. And it would be obvious if the pole has flipped which it hasn't. So that doesn't explain the birds leaving and not returning. But whatever the reason nearly 92% of the population left without notice.

The fact that a few of these birds tested positive for botulism and there are still something like 24000 birds on a nearby island that haven't left don't add up to a Pole Shift to me. They were clearly spooked, but I have no clue as to why.

Has anyone sighted these things since they left? I mean, you just don't 'not notice' 27000 pelicans (which are descent sized birds) flying over your house (or making a mess on your car
). There has to be more to this story.

Lastly, are a lot of animals drive to reproduce pretty strong? I mean, in some cases, such as the salmon that swim upstream, the drive for reproduction is stronger than the drive to survive. I don't know about pelicans, but it seems very strange they would leave thir eggs.

sorry. Didn't realize I threw in an extra 0 there. Thanks for the correction.

you would know if the poles shifted because your compass would change right? You would have more to go on than just pelicans i hope.

I don't believe a geographic pole shift to be possible. There is no reason the earth would rotate once and then stop. If the rotation started that basically turned the world upside down it would continue until something acted upon it to force a change. But magnetic reversals happen often (in geologic times). But birds leaving is a bad sign. A pole shift will cause the extinction of may animals.

Well, I really think you ought to research the polar shift theory first. It is not a rotation of the globe. It is a crustal displacement about the mantle through a finite angle. And I'm not saying I think it can or can't happen, but let's at least talk about the theory proper, not some misunderstood concept.

EDIT: Excuse me. I have just violated one of my own cardinal rules and misused the word theory. If you would be so kind to replace each instance of "theory" with "hypothesis" in the above statements, I will then be absolved and be able to sleep tonight.

Thank you for your cooperation. *

THis is very interesting it could be climate change or many other things going on but here is my best guess.

Vall... even if it were a change in the crust wouldn't it require some massive force to make that change? I have no idea.

I just realized something about the Pelicans. The report has it that the Pelicans vanished about 2 weeks ago. This would be toward the end of May. Isn't that about the time we were experiencing that massive tornado outbreak? Its not as exciting as the end of the world but probably a a good chance as to what caused them to leave.

From what I remember in science class a long time ago a major pole shift can happen every 1 - 1.2 million years.

Well, does this have anything to do with the wack weather we've been having? (or is it the aliens coordinating it so after watching Day After Tomorrow we all freak out?
)

why all the pole shift discussion on this thread?
on a more relevent note
i was recently at ennis lake in montana, on the madison river.
it is a small lake created by a hydroelectric project. i have been fishing
below the dam on this river since i was a small child, and this year was
the first time i have ever seen a white pelican here, and i didnt see just
one. there were at least 40 or fifty birds. this doesnt account for 27000
but it was pretty strange. i have video of them with me in the background
exclaiming how peculiar it was to see them there. this was aroun d the
middle of may.

great report xundf. Any chance of grabbing stills from the video and posting them online? I wish there was a good way to track strange migration patterns or cases of missing animals such as this. I would like to get a better feel for the situation. Is this an isolated event or part of a bigger movement?

Lately there have been many strange reports of things happening to animals. Earlier this year, in February i believe, 10,000 birds fell dead in one of China's provinces.

Here are some of the news reporting this.

www.poe-news.com...

www.news.com.au...

Also we had the mysterious Elk dying in large numbers in Wyoming in March of this year also.

www.cnn.com...

Those are some of the strange things happening this year with animals, but they could all have different causes. In China they are having the avian flu problem, but that i know of they haven't said these birds died from that disease.

There are different methods postulated about how this could happen. I'm probably not the best person to try to review them...lol. But, yes, of course, something has to cause it. If you read about the common thought in various ancient civilizations that there have been several "ages" or "great cycles", you have to entertain that something, on a cataclysmic level, occurs with periodicity which basically wipes civilization back down to ground zero and forces them to start over. This is one of those proposed events.

It's obvious that animals feel things that humans don't. Could these moving pelicans be predicting a possible change in the weather, or maybe its just the change in season.

Off topic - I guess I still don't understand the pole shift, are you saying that we literally flip upside down, so that the north pole is south and the south pole is north? I don't know why I'm having such a hard time grasping this.

This certainly raises an eyebrow but I remember about ten years ago, something very similar happened to bird refuge in Idaho. I can't remember the specifics, but whole populations of different species of birds just didn't visit one year. But they were back the next...
