The Bible is God's word... Why? Because the Bible said so. What gives the Bible authority? It is God's word. Why? Because the Bible said so.

If there is a hell, and I do go to it, so be it. I will admit I was wrong. I will admit I was wrong, and go there laughing at my mistake, laughing that I am a good person, and laughing that I got sent there for using my free will that I was given.

Hi,
I want to share info I have shared here before but it is relevant to this thread.

Part of my work is between the living and the 'dead', helping to finalise the things left undone.. mostly emotional issues needing to be laid to rest along with the body of the deceased.

While doing so, I have the utmost pleasure to take the dead when they are ready into The Light.. as it is known. Once there I get to see them Wake Up from the Dream that was their human life on earth.

It is an amzing thing to witness! They begin to shine from the inside as they remember having been in that place before.. and from there my job with them is done. Although at times I have followed up on some that went across to find them working or planning for their next sojourn into The Dream.

What I found through doing this work is very different to what we are 'brainwashed into Believing'.

There is no "higher-Being" telling you what to do, none sending you to hell or heaven.. absolutely no control dramas as we have been led to believe there HAS TO BE.

So, having such direct experience of what occurs after death of the body, provides me unique perspective that is claer when compared to anything we humans "Believe"

In fact, we limit ourselves by our Beliefs!!

The reality is far larger than we can possibly imagine or Believe it to be..only direct experience will provide a clearer perception on reality.

Hence all Athiests, all religionists, all Believers will learn that they were closed off to bigger picture reality once they get into the Light. Meaning, all will learn as they awaken that we have been seriously misled by our Beliefs, and the Indoctrinations used to establish it in us as a Prime Belief System.

Yes. Maybe hell will be like a desert instead of a fiery place? Although I don't believe in that, it would be interesting. Hollow earth theory anyone?

I love how the religous types always say "Jesus Christ is the only true Lord and Saviour". Well if memory serves me correctly doesn't the Bible speak of a 'second coming'? How do we not know that hasn't happened yet? Maybe the messiah is already here, on Earth, and he/she doesn't even know they are the messiah. If they were to know and claim to be the messiah, then they'd be stuck in a psych ward forever. A modern day crucificiton. Then no one would ever know of their existence.

Through the centuries I believe certain people were given the gift of getting a glimpse of "God". Moses, Krishna, Jesus, Mohammad, all these people recieved a glympse of what God is, i believe. I'd even argue that the likes of Einstein and Stephen Hawking are modern day prophets. The prophets of back then had their ways of getting through to people, today's use the language of physics and mathematics, a more intricate understanding of what one can call "God".

That is a tough line to walk, as in todays age, you are entitled to, well at least in some places in America (assuming your a US citizen) to come out as a non believer and not have to fear for your life.

The sheer and massive amounts of murders to the unbelievers, 'witches', jews, and rest starting from shortly after constantine, you would be horrifically and atrociously tortured and burned or another form of murder, like stoning.

Some boast about the strong numbers of Christians and others of those of Muslims, but a quick view at history says you had no other choice but to believe!!! If you didn't you could expect the believers to joyously watch you 'slowly' burn to death, but not before you had been sufficiently tortured.

It's just you mentally plugged into god, receiving bliss and pure happiness, whilst perhaps singing or dancing. Very 'Hippy' like.

Oh, and streets of gold, and A man at the front desk with a IMNSHO very boring job, reading out of a book, why doesn't god just get a mac?

I hate that I have to be quite about my belief for fear of being harassed. It is wrong, because I would never harass a fellow human for what they believe. I would discuss it politely if they wanted to, but when you discuss something kindly, they take it as harassment towards them.

Doesn't the Bible say to turn the other cheek or whatever?

Turn the other cheek, stone them to death.... it covers all it's bases.

Actually engaging into debate of biblical matters with a christian is worthy of death by stoning!

Someone I know let loose that I'm atheist, and I now have an influx of people, mainly preachers wives and such, coming into my store telling me what awaits me in hell, how easy it is to avoid it by conforming to their beliefs, and blah blah blah, they drew pictures one time
I love the bible belt!

Good thing most people don't follow middle age beliefs, then there would be lots of stonings, and 1/10th of the American population who are Atheists would be dead. Reminds me of Monty Python and the Life of Brian's little seen. He said Jehovah! They then proceed to stone the stoner who said to stone the one who said Jehovah.

I'm agnostic though, hard to explain to people who don't know what it is...

Well, obviously some fancy being who sits high up in the sky on a cloud thumbing his nose at all of his creation sends down some other fancy dudes to tap all the believers on the shoulder for a right old get up somewhere, and those of us who just kept our noses down and fiddled thru life considering it all a load of baloney, will forever be left out.

Sounds like a right pain in the arse to me, if you ask, going along with all those snobs.

Some snobby omnipotent creature collecting other snobby saps who spent their entire lives being a misery to everyone around them because they didn't follow the same path.

I think I'll take my chances with the worms..

What most of the believers don't understand about most non-believers . . . The more insistant and absolute you are about your beliefs . . . the more I am confident that there is no afterlife and, certainly, no damnation.

Well now how does that work?

Followers in the more evangelical faiths would be wise to head the words of Lao Tsu . . . "Those who know, don't speak. Those who speak, don't know". - Tao Te Ching

Well in a free nation things are little different. I hope you're happy with that.

Now . . . show me something other than words . . . and I'm all ears (so to speak).

Well there is a book but you reject that and call it nonsense. So you will continue on your path with no harm done. right?

It works fine . . . Hubris, it reminds me to keep questioning.

I don't really get what being in a free country has to do with a taoist quote . . . It fits quite nicely in Christianity too. I believe JC, himself, said something quite similiar once.

I've read the book. Grew up in between two faiths and gained quite an appreciation for it. I don't think it's nonsense. It's quite magnificant writing in some sections. Although mostly unoriginal in theme, as seen comparatively against other mythologies of antiquity. It is emotionally engaging mythology and much more geared toward the common man. I actually like reading the bible. However, this doesn't mean it holds the power of any supernatural being . . . only your belief gives "the book" that power.

I disagree.

It would be easy to prove there is an afterlife.

All you have to do is catch a ghost. Maybe trap it in a box like in ghost busters.

Then you could show it to all the skeptics.

Look it's only logical that if they exist, they are trappable and physical realities.

The future will rock because one day this will be proven scientifically beyond all shadows of doubt.

And then I will laugh my rear off. Oh it will be a bountiful laughter.

If it weren't for Atheism the Bible might be in error.

God fearing people.
So what all can you tell me?
Maybe death dosn't exist either?

So your "prophets" had a pretty good idea that rational people would notice the bible is bat # insane ? Your point is ?

Seriously the bible might be in error ? Are you forgeting the whole people being able to drink poison ?

MARK 16:15-18

15He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

Quit with the BS and drink up bro
no problems if there is no errors in your silly book.

I should point out for the Christians, seeing none of you actually read your own book. That is Jesus himself speaking in the quoted passage.

Come-on now! A person of your ability in discernment can absolutly see that I'm appealing to common sense. Do you know what happens after we die? See the truth is the truth. There is only one truth. You must be pretty sure of yourself to be an Atheist. So what happens after we die?

[edit on 3-7-2010 by randyvs]

This is sickening.
You are brainwashing yourself in public.
You cant die. You were never alive.
Life is only the sense of fear, which is the very action of separating yourself from yourself. There is no you, no independent being trapped in a body. Everything is just arising in consciousness.

I'm going to just put my own two cents is. I do have the burden of proof and I do understand, unlike so many other theists, that I have a responsibility to provide proof to my argument.

However, I can not. I am sort of a pantheist (inb4hippie). God is in everything, and everyone. You really want to know what happens after you die? You return to what you are, what you always have been, and what you always will be...a part of God.

It could be that my mind released '___' while meditating once, but I think I came close to the presence of the ONE. It felt as if all problems, ideologies, and nonsense were so completely insignificant. It felt as if joy and elation were the only emotions to be realized. It felt true...

The experience here.

I say, don't sweat it. In the end, if you don't believe/do believe/don't give a flying frisbee, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you respect yourself and most importantly respect others...because they, just like everything are simply extensions of yourself.

Thats my unity spiel. Take it, leave it, embrace it, or glance over it. Just be happy

Can you prove you saw a ghost? No? Well, my point still stands. Personal experience does not equate evidence. You have to be able to prove it to other people.
