I flew into El Paso, Texas today and am speaking at the Las Cruces, New Mexico tea party rally tomorrow. Today we stopped by the El Paso City Hall today after it was hit on Wednesday during a drug cartel shootout. The cartel members were reportedly shooting at a Blackhawk helicopter in Juarez that was called to the scene. The bullets hit the Assistant City Manager’s office at the El Paso City Hall.

This is all really getting out of hand. I am very thankful that Arizona has brought this problem to the attention of the entire country. Whichever side of the immigration people stand on, I would hope that we can unite in believing that something needs to be done at the federal level.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott wrote a letter to President Obama after the shooting: Dear Mr. President, Deadly violence from drug cartels and transnational gangs in Mexico is knocking on the United States’ door with ever increasing frequency. Yesterday, gunfire from the cartels pierced that threshold and struck City Hall in El Paso. Fortunately no one was injured or killed. But that good fortune was not the result of effective border control it was mere luck that the bullets struck buildings rather than bodies. Luck and good fortune are not effective border enforcement policies. The shocking reality of cross border gunfire proves the cold reality: American lives are at risk. As the attached news article notes: “More than 1,300 people have been murdered in Ju?rez this year as a war continues relentlessly between the Ju?rez and Sinaloa drug cartels.” Americans must be protected as this deadly war bulges at our border.

It's looking to me like another state is well on its way to requiring the federal government take the action is is constitutionally required to take. I do not only blame the Obama administration, by the way. All politicians have wanted to avoid confronting this issue for a long time now, and it seems we're reaching a boiling point.

I hope that more and more Americans will continue to wake up and understand the importance of this issue. IMHO, if the Fed doesn't take some serious action in the near future, this will eventually end in the secession of a number of states, and a decent chance of a full-blown civil war.

Whatever your stance of immigration reform, etc., I'm asking people (especially those in the southern border states who are most-affected) to please contact your state's offices and put pressure on them to put pressure on the Fed. This needs to happen sooner rather than later.

Are you sure it wasn't anti government Texans taking a shot at the helicopter?

I mean it was a TPM meeting going on at the time. Are you sure that it was the cartels shooting at the blackhawk or was it the TPM?

The article mentions that Mexican authorities have said the shots were fired by Feds, and that the gunshots are still under investigation.

Clearly, though, the AG of Texas isn't going to write a letter to the President unless this is the case. It's amazing to me how much the media have changed. 10 years ago all major news networks would have had ongoing coverage of this; and now it's like a footnote if it even gets mentioned at all.

Who would have thought these days would come that our government buildings can be fired upon and it doesn't get any headlines. I started a thread a few weeks ago about an actual rocket being launched at the Hemet, CA police department, and it got no attention at all even here on ATS. It's not very heartening, I'll tell you.

Not saying it is the case that Anti Government TPM were the ones that shot at the helicopter and building, but it's a possibility, after all, it is Texas and a lot of Texans have guns and don't like the Federal Government at all.

I mean the Cartels could have shot at the Blackhawk, it is possible, unlikely because they pay off the Feds to make sure to stand aside.

Just saying without a thorough investigation, it's not certain who fired the shots at the helicopter.

then don't you think they would be hunted down, arrested, posted all over the news....In order for all homegrown terrorists to be rounded up and demonized????

Our Prez has already stated he's not gonna do ANYTHING to shore up our borders until immigration reform passes.

I just am saying it's odd that we jumped to the conclusion that it was drug cartels that did this. Isn't that kinda the same story they gave us when 9/11 happened? Is there any real evidence that it was drug cartels that did this or are we blindly taking the word of a politician?

I don't feel like a hostage, odd, am I supposed to feel like a hostage? Is that what YOU want me to feel?

Weird that everyone is so down on the drug cartels on this board, the same people that are actually for an armed conflict with the government are so adverse to the actions taken by these cartels that in essence are the exact same thing they post wanting to do here.

Besides the simple fact remains that if Americans weren't so obsessed with illegal drugs, there wouldn't be cartels to begin with.

I am also surprised that a board that is so hateful of any government intervention at all is so supportive of a mass military presence in the United states.

It's as if you all are being programmed to WANT martial law.

, but it's not just Americans...

My question about feeling like a hostage was directed at Americans in general, not you...unless you're American.

I think the more important issue is where did the bullets come from. If they came from the Mexico side, then it doesn't matter if they came from cartels, Mexican military, whoever....We should stop it.

People laugh but we are being invaded by Mexico on several fronts. everybody agrees we must fight "terrorism" meanwhile crap like this keeps getting worse, it just doesn't make sense.

It makes me wonder if all this hype about the boarder isn't just a false flag operation in order to bring about martial law on the land. After all, they whip up a frenzy on a subject, this one is illegal immigration, now we have a target to focus our hatred on, the demand goes out for the government to do something about it. And lo and behold, some liberties are willingly given away in exchange for the illusion of security.

I wonder if even right now they aren't drafting legislation that would limit peoples freedoms so that they can feel safe from the dreaded evil illegal immigrant?

And would the good people of the boarder states just blindly give up those freedoms for that security?

I don't think you are being invaded by Mexico. I think that "crap like this" as you put it will give the US the reason to become more involved in mexico. They won't need to bring democracy but maybe a little law and order. To do this they may just have to annex mexico then all mexicans will be US citizens. How's that for amnesty?

Or at least they can form a union I know we can call it the North American Union and this will allow the US to operate all the way down to Panama. For reasons of National Security of course.
