Schwarzenegger orders minimum wage for California state workers

As many as 200,000 state workers in California could see their
pay scale slashed to minimum wage, if orders from the governor's office
are followed.

In a letter to the state controller Thursday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's
administration ordered the department to reduce the payment of state
workers to the hourly rate of $7.25 unless a budget is reached soon.

wow, there's gonna be some pi$$ed of workers
in CA. Some of those State jobs are the best around
as far as pay scale. Now they work for minimum wage.
I imagine those folks who have worked for 20-30
years are gonna take the biggest reduction in
wages.

I didn't see anything mentioned about elected officials.
i think this is an extortion move by Arnold to light
a fire under Sacramento to pass a budget.

Can people even live on minimum wage in California since the cost of living is so high?

It should be the same for public officials. After all, they're public servants.

Then again, I guess the term "public servant" is dead already.

I doubt it
like I said with enough people shouting
at Sacramento, a budget will get passed
quickly as people will need those wages.

This is not even counting cutting the Medicaid
funding that the Feds didn't approve of the $24B
to states medicaid funding.

sorry to say but the states are bankrupt
along with everybody else.
