Ive seen a lot of threads saying that this song or this old interview or whatever predicted the gulf oil disaster. With the exception of the seventh sign of the Hopi s however , none of them IMO even came close. Here is a song from 1984 from the album `Presto` by the band RUSH. I think you will agree that this is spot on. No ambiguity here at all.

Red Tide lyrics by
_Neil Peart

Nature has some new plague
To run in our streets
History some new wrinkle
We are doomed to repeat
Fugitives at the bedroom door
Lovers pause to find an open store
Rain is burning on the forest floor
And the red tide kisses the shore

This is not a false alarm
This is not a test

Stay out of the sun
It only burns my skin
Sky full of poison
And the atmosphere's too thin
Bless the sun, the rain no more
River running like an open sore
Black wind falling to the ocean floor
And the red tide washes ashore

THIS IS NOT A FALSE ALARM
THIS IS NOT A TEST
Nowhere we can fly away
Nowhere we can rest
The party is disrupted by
An uninvited guest

Deadline approaches
For the weary land
It used to be something
But we let it run down in our hands
Too late for debate, too bad to ignore
Quiet rebellion leads to open war
Bring a sea-change to the factory floor
As the red tide covers the shore

Now's the time to turn the tide
Now's the time to fight
Let us not go gently
To the endless winter night
Now's the time to make the time
While hope is still in sight
Let us not go gently
To the endless winter night

I am sure there are probably 100s of examples of songs that allegedly predicted the oil spill, its all about personal inference. Well when you have one of the greatest drummers of all time writing the lyrics anything is possible!

Indeed! And according to Getty Lee he is `not really intimidating at all , we can talk about anything , he just has a really big brain` LOL

A couple of things:

1) "Red Tide" and the album it's from "Presto" came out in 1989, not 1984. I remember going to the the concerts supporting that album very well, not once but twice (once in D.C. and once in Baltimore).

2) I think the song is a more general call to environmental awareness and action than a prediction about this particular disaster. A "red tide" is kind of harmful agal bloom which can be deadly to marine life over a very large area of the sea. In many cases (but not all) they are caused by human activity. They are quite often naturally occurring, too.
