I was thrilled to hear Birgitta Jonsdottir of Iceland call for an alternative monetary system - a completely different system from what we have today - in this interview on the Alex Jones show that took place yesterday. She mentioned that she had met Bill Still of The Money Masters.

She has become such a prominent leader, and to hear her say that encourages me that maybe she can help get the ball rolling toward a solution for the global meltdown.

This part of the interview begins at 8:45:

Awesome, maybe we can give the new monetary system a cool Icelandic name like Eyantjattanomonyökull er something?

Seriously, the US will have to rebuild a new monetary system in the aftermath of a likely future complete collapse and it will need to (at first) be based on the old tried and proven barter and trade system, that will be good at least until the new feds find a way to gain control over it and implement a new system of taxes and strict federal regulations, then in a hundred years or so, we can collapse that from massive taxation and spending deficits and do it all over again.

Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Sorry Op., I can't play the clip...but is there any mention of real money in there?i.e. gold or silver?

The only way a new currency will work is if it is backed against something other than a printing press.

It does not get in to any detail about the new system that we need, but she mentions the fractional reserve system and bubbles and used the word "criminal" to describe what we have.

whatever coin or script is used...must be 'liquid'

that means all monetary systems accept & use the monetary unit and it has a stable 'value/worth' for the foreseeable future.

all (today's) fiat currencies are bet for-&-against daily on the Forex Market today !

Is the Forex Market supposed to be for the purpose of international trade and not for the purpose of "playing the stock market"?

Call me a gold bug if you want but I am sticking with precious metals as a store of value. I do not let more than a few hundred sit in the bank above what I expect to use in a month. The rest of my savings goes into metals or other common commodities I use a lot of and have good storage life.

An electronic gold exchange that is run with a tight encryption layer and single use session keys that is not dependent on a centralized system and avoids any kind of man in the middle like bitcoin would be a good start.

Interesting!

The Forex is designed for 'hedging'... the use is what it is...
99% want to game the values of currencies on subjective & temporary events... its turned into casino playing (not even related to investing)

I did say like Bitcoin. Perhaps using the bit coin system as an exchange front end for small transactions and use the Pecunix system for stored value in the form of gold.

Does it have any relationship to, or does it also serve the purpose of providing for the practical need of, foreign exchange for international trade?

Here's a completely different type of labor exchange called Time Banks.

www.timebanks.org...

Very interesting concept that does not lead to social stratification. Everyone's time is equally valuable.

Love and peace,

Namaste.

Alex has interviewed Bill Still recently as well. Bill has a new documentary called The Secret of Oz.

Bill says that Iceland is very important in trying to restore constitutional government by taking control of the monetary system because the people there have taken a stand against the bankers, and we need to support this small country and economy in their efforts. He said we can look for ways to do this by going to the websites Iceland Naturally and Nordic Store,, and that Whole Foods sells a lot of Iceland's products.

Alex and Bill talked about the fact that we must get the monetary system out of private hands and into the hands of the people - the government.

The only way a new monterial system would work if it works for everyone! This means even the poor. I have researched many ideas from prices being based on people's wages to figuring out fixed prices based upon one of the lowest possible wages which is about $600 per month.
It is not the money per say that is the problem; it is the system itself. When money becomes like a god then everyone is fighting to obtain it.
If we devolop a new moneterial system it must be utlized properly for the gain of good and services. People should only have to work less than 30 hours per week and should have ALL of their needs meet.
People should be able to have one or two luxeries. There can't be all this corpation within busineses; such as giving the rich lower prices or sabatoging their own business to get an insurance claim.
We need to start from scratch with a whole new SYSTEM; having a new currency will not fix the problem. I have also researched the Venus Project and resource based systems. I see a lot of topics on the need for a new system and I hope it happens soon. I am so sick of never having anything left over for myself, being isolated because I do not have enough gas to go somewhere, being late on bills from time to time; paying late fees, paying out 60% of my income to rent for a ONE bedrrom apartment, (if I had a two bedroom I could get a roommate but two bedrooms are $800 a month!), I am sick of everyone wanting my money and BS charges that are ridculous.
I used to pay a paper bill fee but now I get the bill sent to my email. My apartment complex uses a third party billing and I had to pay a set up fee; even though I have had water before plus a montly fee to use their system! Not only that but there is a fee to pay your bill if you pay over the phone. How can companies can away will all these BS fees! Digital TV breaks up a lot and I used to have cable but because it was so expensive I got rid of it! I could go on and on...

I agree with you.

Currency is a separate issue, isn't it?

I believe the most important thing is to get the monetary system out of private hands - which is what the Federal Reserve is - and into the public sector - the government. (We will also have to clean up government. I believe getting the money out of politics is necessary to accomplish that.)

I believe that once that is accomplished, we'll be living in a different world altogether. Solutions to many problems will fall into place naturally.

I hope so what I would like to have is a 2 bedroom apartment plus a small den as long is has one window and is big enough to put a desk in it. I would say 7X7. I would also like a very basement area; I would even settle for my bathroom being in the basement. I would to have this for only 30% of my income. I know pay 60%!
I have all the material things I could ever want. I would like to be able to replace my car every 5 years or so or at least they should build cars to last 10 years.
I am ok with my life but I feel like it is on hold. I am waiting for either society/the system to catch up with my ideas or me to catch up with society. I know I will never win in the latter.
I want to have a child, I want to pusue my dream of being a witer but money holds me back. I am too afraid to foster or adopt a child with so little money left over. I am 35 I wonder if I will forver be stangent living a one bedroom apartment, childless and without my partner.
My partner actually lives in Flordia; she lost her job due to the recession. She comes to see me 2 times a year but it is not enough.
She goes on interveiws 3 times a week. They don't want to hire her because they feel she is overqualfied.
That is the problem with this system it does not allow you to do much else besides just survive. I am so tired of playing this game. What is wrong my small wants?
Having a 900 sq foot apartment, a child, my partner and a decent working car is not too much. I gave up cable, cell phone, I no longer buy cds, dvds or anything extra. I would give up everything though for my partner to be near but a plane ticket costs money. I would pay for it but then how would I pay my bills sigh.
See the trap....

Perhaps we could place a value on a single grain of sand or a small mustard seed. Surely, sometime in the way future, we would see how precious life is more so than pieces of paper (by the current monetary system) or the fools hoarding their mountains of precious, inedible metals of gold, silver, etc.
