I am unemployed and FAILED to receive ANY benefits because I moved back home from Vegas to ___. I do receive 280$ a month for food for my baby but that is it! THank god I have a good GF and she has the most amazing family. They support us well and even are helping me get a job @ her work.

I don't like any of these politicians too much (Ron Paul Rox) . Democrat or Republican. They argue about stupid stuff instead of fixing the real problems . Tax breaks are GOOD for everyone! Stop thinking the Government should babysit you and do something if you feel that strongly.

I , however, will vote and wait. If need be I will join a cause that ALL Americans can stand for. Freedom @ Prosperity!

I can;t believe that someone on ATS actually believes there is a difference between the two parties! There are only different sides of the same coin.

Democrats add a bunch of crap to the bill, Republicans vote it down. Now we spend too much time blaming one or the other and at the same time people are still unemployed, families are still in need.

If we spent less time playing the "left-right paradigm" blame game and more time on REAL issues than we might actually get something done.

This story belongs on the MSNBC site, not ATS.

Federal involvement in unemployment insurance is unconstitutional.

Nothing wrong with opposing it.

The jobs are coming in the form of government jobs. Have you read the actual health care bill?? Educational buildings for healthcare, home visits, specialists, councilors, ect. It's a beast and will require millions of new government employees. Not to mention every restaurant in the country will have to replace their menus and drive through boards since they will have to have all the nutritional info beside every item. Same goes with vending machines too.

I dont look at jobs as actual jobs. I look at them more as filler for the governments bureaucracy. All government jobs do is create more red tape, more taxes, and more reliabilty on the government for things. I know that a jobs a job, and if i had no other choice but to take one I would, but I still dont believe in them as being anything good. If you believe that then why dont you loby for us all to have government jobs?

Frankly I'm glad it failed. The bill would extend unemployment by 99 weeks in addittion to the 26 weeks of state unemployment. 125 weeks of unemployment.

The state already pays for 6 months of unemployment. Not the fed is going to extend it to 2.5 years? That's ridiculous. Maybe people will get off their asses now.

Not to mention all of the pork in the bill. If the democrats really cared about these poor people they would have a bill with just the unemployment benefits on it. Instead the put items on there they knew the republicans would not vote for, and then they simpy put it under regular business and they don't need 2/3rds of the house and pass it anyway. All while make the right look bad.

Your in the dark about thing work in Washington. You also seem not to have a clue about econimc stimulus. 2.5 years of unemployment creates a state sponsored welfare state. Louisana can't even fill all of it's oil cleanup jobs because people won't stop taking handouts.

Sorry 6 months is enough time to find a job.

Republicans are against the government redistributing wealth unless it's their name on the check.

If conservatism was such a good idea there would be no such thing as liberals.

My wife had an extreme medical emergency and if not for the government helping us out she would be dead right now. Thank you liberals! And thank you tax paying american citizens.

And I am mystified why so many conservatives love listening to windbags? What is so interesting about Hannity, Beck, Limbaugh and the rest of the AM brigade?

THey sure have enough money to bail out banks! Enough money to give every American including children about 25,ooo to 28 ,ooo dollars. That would've helped the economy a HELLUVALOT more. If you remove children and individuals and Instead go by Family each family would receive and average of 125,000 ! I know I could MAKE something happen with that. Buy a home , get a car, go to college.. etc. Too bad the government saw fit to give it to those who splurged our wealth to begin with!

The problem is we have allowed politicians to alter our course leftward and take us too far away from the Constitution. We slowly over the years have gone from a republic to a socialist republic. It's true. We are a socialist country, plain and simple. It shouldn't be like that. America was founded upon conservative principles, but is now being run by those who believe that the government should take care of us from cradle to grave.

Extend unemployment entitlements? Where in the Constitution does it say that if you can't find a job, then it's the government's responsibility to take care of you? It's the government's responsibility to create the conditions for businesses to thrive and then get out of the way, not control every aspect of our lives.

Americans are finally waking up and saying enough is enough. End the endless list of entitlements, unless you are mentally or physically disabled. Give greater incentives for people to donate to charity. Charities can then help those who are less fortunate. It's wrong to take someone's money by force, and give it to someone who didn't earn it. Excessive taxation is stealing. The government's job is to protect us and keep us safe, and guarantee our freedom and liberty.

Make it a crime for an American company to move overseas. Bring back manufacturing. No wonder there are no jobs: we have shipped them all overseas! Duh! Our wonderful politicians (on both sides) and corporations have sold us out. Lower taxes. Secure our borders and send illegals packing. Impose term limits. No more career politicians. Wake up. This is the REAL change we need.

The bottom line question is this...during what everyone agrees is the deepest recession/greatest financial crisis since the great depression...is it valid to extend unemployment benefits?

A case can be made either way...IMO, yes.

BS...the "pork" you refer to, but like the GOP...fail to go into detail on...

I'll repost and earlier post which seems to have been ignored.

"Tax cuts for corporations" = Tax incentives for companies that DON'T ship jobs overseas + repealling tax breaks for US companies that ARE shipping jobs overseas.

"tax hikes on US oil companies"...Repealing of government subsidies (money we give them) for ALL oil companies, US and International

Why are we subsidizing the most profitable industry on earth?...beyond the obvious, they have the largest political lobby in DC.

THIS is what the GOP opposed.

Oh...I get it now.

This is nothing more than a "Republicans suck and Democrats rock" thread.

Well, at least that answers all the ridiculous arguments not at all based on reality. You're living in La-La Land.

Get over it. Both parties stink. Both parties are corrupt. Neither party really cares about you or I. Guess what?

Both parties gave themselves raises this year. Did you get one?

The sooner you accept that, the sooner you will want to take action instead of throwing around blame.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I will disagree on what Clinton did because that gets parroted around like it's true.

Clinton didn't reduce or eliminate the deficit, Clinton issued the Social Security admin non transferable(meaning that they are worthless on the open Market) bonds in order to steal what you and I paid in so the deficit would look less troubling. He never solved the deficit, he buried it under a mountain of paper.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Employment benefits should be extended. People are hurting.

However, why did the Dems put other "stuff" that may be controversial in such a bill? To pick a fight, to sneak something in that is unpopular, or to make it a dead bill to begin with?

Sorry folks, I don't think either party comes out of this vote looking clean.

I skimmed over the thread so I may have missed it, but Congress is controled by the Democrats. Federal Tax dollars spent for unemployment is Un-Constitutional. Of course 95% of what Congress does is Un-Constitutional. Congress has been in violation of their oath since December, 19 1860. They held Congress without the southern states present. On December 24, 1913 while most of the members of Congress left for Christmas break a few memebers held a vote and passed the Federal Reserve Banking Act.

Article I Section 8 - Powers of Congress:

"To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;"

Source

Ever since 1913 Congress has operated in Contempt of the US Constitution.

So the problems we have in Government we can blame on ourselves, since all their power to govern comes from the consent of We the People.

There should have been a Revolution in 1913 but the people were too brainwashed then just like we are now.

So what are you going to do about it now that you know?

I am ready to go.

Are You?

Democrats have a super majority in both houses, and a president to back these clowns up. If they can't even get a bill passed now, they should all go back home to the carnivals they came from.

Democrats could care less about the unemployed. If they cared, they would use reconcilliation to pass the extension like they did when they jammed the health bill down our throats.

Democrats only care about keeping their phony baloney jobs. They make the bill unpalatable for Republicans so they will unanimously oppose it. Then they go on Hardball and Keith Olbermann and the like and condemn those cold hearted Republicans. And every uneducated lazy unemployed nutbag who has the right to vote will join in a hellish chorus of bash the mean old Republicans.

Democrats wont use the stimulus money to pay for the bill, but want to borrow another $34 billion to pay for it.

www.fox11online.com...

Democrats know this will breed contempt for Republicans. Why would Republicans commit political suicide by opposing unemployment benefits?

Democrats are Communists and Socialists masquerading under the new age banner of Progressivism.

Democrats have ruined this country and are responsible for the majority of the 13 trillion dollar debt that we have accumulated.

Democrats are arrogant, loathsome, prevaricating control freaks. If anybody doubts this, just listen to what Rep. Pete Stark Dem. Ca. had to say the other day.

www.youtube.com...

Democrats have deceived many laid off hard working Americans by deliberately destroying their job opportunities, enslaving them to live on subsistence wages, and then blaming Republicans for their woes.

Democrats will try to deceive all of us good people who have established a work ethic and those of us who would never dream of scamming other people in order to make a living but are down on our luck.

Shall I continue and have my post taken down for being an essay. Open your eyes and get the wax out of your ears.

Get up off your lazy asses and get a job. If illegals can find work, what's your excuse? At least the majority of illegals come to this country to work. Get up, get out, and make your own way. Quit making excuses and stop living of the government dole. You have more power over your own fates than the government will ever have.

Since this was a bash Republican thread, I thought I'd do a little bashing of my own. Did it accomplish anything?......No......if anything, it will just make you lazy bums even more determined to sit on your fat asses and suck up my hard earned tax dollars in order to support your chronic drug habits.

And don't respond to this post and tell me about your how your various chronic conditions wont permit you to make or find a job. Can you read? Can you press a button?

The only thing you people know about chronic is how to smoke it.

Well smoke this. What ya gonna do when the interest on the national debt reaches a trillion dollars a year by the end of the decade? Still sit on your couches complaining? Still blame George Bush? Or do you want this to happen so the country gets pushed over the edge?

Wake up people! The Dream that was America is passing into history.

I saw no mention of tax cuts for corporations or tax hikes for american oil businesses in the bill, unless I am mistaken, we are discussing HR5816?
waysandmeans.house.gov...

I will agree that it is important to research both sides and will agree that the Democratic politicians will typically have just as much of an agenda as the Republicans, but in this case your claims do not align with what is in the bill. The only mention concerns when the unemployment benefits will expire and the request to extend them. It is apparent that you are no different in misinforming people than the politicians you speak of.

In the case of extending the unemployement benefits time after time, there is no doubt it is costing our nation. But then again it will be much more costly to this nation to just unhook the support those people dearly need and in turn for them to turn to the streets, for them to cost the nation in many other ways as the result for being unemployed, or worse, to have these unemployed and Im sure frustrated honest folks turn to violence.

I think it's fair, they had time to find a job and they didn't find one. Should have choose a job with better job security. They don't really deserve handouts when they more than likely didn't save up any money when they had the chance. There are jobs everywhere, you just have to look. Pay might not be great but this isn't a socialist country.

And yet the carelessness continues. What is it with the left / right arguments? I didn't even realize people were still at that level on this board. If you haven't noticed, there is a democrat in office, and he is doing the same old same old as our last pres. Hmmm... why is that? Maybe they are just an actor filling in a role?

First off The rep... Are trying to get the Dems to stop spending, time and time again they [the Rep] have come out and said, that the dems have to get rid of the pork in the bill for un related spending projects... by the way these un related spending the dems want in thier would add 30 billion more to the defiect...

Our economy cant take a another hit like that.... they [the rep] want the dems to work with them and figure out how they can reasonably pay for it without burdening the already over paid tax payers and not adding more Dollars to the national debit....

From just reading your post it is apparrent you only read one side on the argument....
No open wants these unemployed to go without... But you cant just keep printing money, we dont have it.......

The other side of the coin is that the dems spending, it hasnt in anyway created jobs....

For every [1] job it creates [by the way the only jobs created have been cenus and temporary project jobs] there are 2 full time jobs lost. If you actaully knew what you talking about you would of known this....

Facts my friend, really spewing bs like this makes no sense... Unless you are so rich you dont care about being tax into the working Poor

My god... read the whole story not just part of it.....

someone has to stand up and say enough is enough...... the dems need to stop this Spending, I am not sayiing that they both dont do it... but the current Govnerment is spending like a drunk sailors on leave... We have to say enough is enough....

the rep... do want the unemployed to get the help they needed but are trying hard to pay for it... It will never end if it keeps going in theis direction.
