This brings up a topic of the Israel-Palestinian conflict that I haven't much explored in the past, natural gas.

Egypt has now tightened security around the pipeline

Security officials said police had received warnings the group threatened to attack the pipeline, which since 2008 has supplied Israel with 1.7 billion cubic metres (60 billion cubic feet) of gas a year despite angry opposition to the supply deal within Egypt.

An Israeli infrastructure ministry spokeswoman said Egypt provides about a third of Israel's natural gas.

The gas belongs to whichever nation's 10/20 mile barrier out to sea it falls in as per maritime law. If the deposits are outside the barriers, then it becomes a free for all and anyone can go drill it up, again, as per maritime law. No one owns the Mediterranean.

Unfortunately, Israel gets it by default and will baww to the west and get what they want as usual.

This makes perfect sense. And they didn't "just" find it. They've know all along it was there. It's why they have such a vested interest in the oil, gas, and water pipelines that America's perpetual and seemingly insane wars are clearing a path for (Syria, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, a few other -stans) straight to the world's largest up and coming consumers...China and India.
