If the empire from starwars went to war with the human empire from warhammer 40k who would win would and imperial stormtrooper be able to defeat a spacemarine would darth vader fall foul to the inquisition I have talked with my friends about this ( were not teen were in our late 30s and early 40s lol ) and it have weighd up the pros and cons of both sides but to me I think the 40k human empire would destroy the starwars empire ( yes pete you read correctly... light saber against chain sword is your only valid point)

Not sure what the major starships from WH40K would be like, as for the game, it's more planet-bound.

But, this is the real strength of the Star Wars universe...the ability to destroy an entire planet...., be it with a Death Star, or a bombardment by Star Destroyers... I would think this would be the WH40K folks' undoing...

In a ground battle, the WH40K troops would win, but when considering all resources...their planets would be toast.

EDIT: I should add though, it always seems to be exceptionally tough in a game of WH40K to beat a Chaos army, as they seem to have the best of all worlds available to them (strong normal troops in both hand to hand and distance, Strong melee specialists, Strong magic, Strong characters). They really are a little overbalanced. That, and they nerfed one of my faves, the Eldar.... Of course, who can keep up with all of the changes over the years...??? Not me...though I still have a fairly decent Eldar army collecting dust, and most of it only has basic paint vs. elaborate paint jobs.....

I don't know anything about Warhammer 40k but if their soldiers are able to aim properly then my money is on them. I like the "Who Would Win" game. Anyone have other ideas for good match-ups?

40K without a doubt...

A favourite quote of mine, from the Family Guy Star Wars special;

*Two Stormtroopers*.
"Jim, have we actually ever hit someone with one of these things?"
"... I hit a bird once.."
"..Really?!"

Seen this topic around a few times.. 40k hands down, without a doubt..

How many planets does the Empire consist of? Millions?

40k navies destroy planets on a regular basis - Orbital Bombardment: Launch the cyclonic torpedoes.

Besides, aren't storm troopers more on par with regular imperial guard? I'm not big on Star Wars but aren't the storm troopers pretty worthless? Also, everything in 40k is over the top, in a good way, the only 'universes' that could challenge 40k is basically ridiculous anime shows for kids, 40k is the only fictional setting that pulls off that level of.. uhm, ridiculousness in a graceful manner.. bring out the kid in ya! There's nothing better than xenophobic fascism, sensual sex daemons, space elves and doom robots in a splendid and gory mix of darkness and horror.

I wonder if the parents of kids playing warhammer ever take a look at the material their children are reading, I mean.. they're complaining about music, movies and video games.. if some of those 'good christians' only knew their little boy was secretly serving the Dark Prince of Pleasure and Excess..

The empire would eventually win if not by force by manipulation.Yes they can destroy planets and orbital bombardment is always an option(remember Kashyyk?)but how can you defeat someone who has the potential to destroy a battle cruiser with nothing but a void stare and the force? In my opinion the entire War Hammer universe would be a Sith lords play toy.I admit to being a little bias if my avatar hasn't already showed it.

I'm more inclined to believe the Empire would end up becoming the plaything of some eldar Craftworld, some insane Tzeentchian Daemon Prince or a training ground for a space marine chapter.
As for the force, sith lords and jedis? They're glorified psykers, way rarer(?) and would probably end up succumbing to the promises of whispering Chaos Gods.

The Imperium would just deploy the [anti-psyker] Grey Knights and annihilate them. In my opinion of course, I'm a fanboy too.

I would say 40k's Imperium would sweep house versus Vader's laughable stormtroopers. I bet the hard-nosed Cadians could take on any stormtrooper opposition but let's be fair, Star Wars was an epic story of good versus evil where good triumphs while 40k is a gothic sci-fi wargame where the 'good guys' act just as terrible as their opponents.
