Obama internet "kill switch "bill approved

Suppose there are people in powerful positions that are actually painting this picture to make you focus on a figurehead and place the blame there?

I suspect someone else is in control of this publicity. And I bet things are not really as they seem.

It's really not as simple as some people seem to think.
The real world is not south park, there is no magical modem that contains all of the internet and can just be switched off. If it was that easy, then the so called terrorists would do just that rather than try to bomb airplanes or stuff like that. (Which I'm very skeptic about anyway, however this is not the time nor the place)

So, I'd say we can all take a deep breath, drink more coffee (or whatever you prefer) and just continue our day. This is making Obama look more "evil" and to make some people think he has "power".
Fact of the matter is that I cant see any logical way of shutting down the internet by pressing a button.
That is not to say that it cannot be done, but to do something you'd need VERY extreme measures, like lets say..
Make every computer connected to the internet have some kind of software that lets them connect to the internet, they'd need to log on to a server (or, rather, get a "green light" from said server) to get to the internet. Now, if you can do that then..well, then sure I guess you could block everyone from accessing the internet.
And even if you blocked people from accessing the internet..the internet would still exist.

Short version:
This is merely a PR stunt if even that. There is no magic button that can destroy the internet.

OK, i read it. So under cyber attack the president can cut internet services, to who ever he feels is vital to stop the attack. YOU ARE BEING MONITORED AT THIS MOMENT. (the twilight zone music, please.) REALITY.

Actually the very design of the internet is structured to make it robust enough to continue to function if many nodes go down. You can ping a server and see it may not even take hops through the same route each time.

What this means is that even if the US shut down a lot of US nodes, the rest of the internet could continue to operate, the hops would just take different paths through different nodes. In fact, it was designed to operate in precisely this way so it WILL continue to function if nodes go down.

CPYKOmega, you are naive. The US owns the foundation of the Internet, it used to be called WWMCCS (World Wide Military Command & Control System) -- an interlinking of large mainframes & smaller mid-sized computers created to serve US military decision-making & fast implementation of orders.

Unless the foundation has changed radically, where there is actually an independent alternate Net that can function even if the original Net is disabled.

News is controlled everywhere. If the Internet is turned off, we are without REAL news. Mainstream Media (MSM) is completely corporate-owned & controlled.

Look at how little of the Gulf Oil Spill stories/reports make it into the MSM.

The majority of Americans will never hear about this kill-switch.

If the Internet goes down they'll think it's just a glitch.

Our Internet was down twice last week just because of thunderstorms.

So if he did ever use the kill-switch, how would we know?

Also, our server "routes" through Washington DC. It goes from So Dakota, to Chicago, to Washington DC, to Pennsylvania. So yeah, I can see a big red button that say "Kill Switch" sitting right on the desk in the oval office.

It will get voted down. Guaranteed. This is just a Democrat ploy to get as many useless bills in front of the Senate before November. Before they all get their arses voted out of office for being useless.

If this is a matter of national security, then I'm an alien from Nibiru, and my planet will be coming back in a little over 2 years to destroy the human race.

Obumbles, there is only so much power you can take before your people bite back. You take away the internet (which probably couldn't happen anyway), and you better believe that you will have every person in the country with a gun on your front door.

I don't think it is necessary. They have learned how to manipulate the system, to effectively be dictators, without the typical ending term limits, canceling elections or even keeping the same figurehead in office. All the while, they used this system to restrict and control but maintaining the illusion of being the peoples advocates or championing freedom.

Elections won't save us. They are now just another tool in the magicians bag of tricks.

I really hope this doesn't happen, i can't imagine looking at paper porn again.

It can be shut down for up to 4 months without approval from congress. Much can happen to us in 4 months and few would know. Very scary.
