Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, i was just wondering on a little how to.

I was wondering, What is the proper way to start a new nation in this day and Age?
Would it be to conquer a thirdworld nation or buy the land and declare yourself a country?

is anyomne knowledgable in this area? i would really like to start my own nation haha

Ever since I was young, I have had the urge to find an uninhabited island in the middle of the ocean and declare it to be mine. I don't know if that is how it works though....

Anyway, I would start a small community, and we would all live off the land, and help each other, and live in peace in harmony on a beautiful island.... ahh.... one can dream...

whell i was thinking.. if i saved up around $20,000 within the next two years that it would be possible to go to some region where people live off of less than a dollar per day and start a community and become political enough to start a nation, employ the natives improve their quality of life and what not.

it would really be awesome if the average joe could go out into the world and actually make a nation.

I'll join your new nation. This one sucks.

I think many of us dream of escaping the insanity of our governments and people with no common sense or conscience, or jobs we are slaves to. Can I care for the chickens and gather eggs? Oooooh, I could plant a great big herb garden for cooking and medicinal purposes. We'd have natural shampoos and salves, soaps etc. that I could make.

A community of like -minded people living with a sense of purpose and joy. How cool is that?

That would be awesome, i agree!

i would be willing to contribute as much as i could financially and in labor into forming a community,

If i thought i could pull it off i could probably get a good amount of funds for it.

Either way, it would take millions of dollars, and a solid constituancy.

Or maybe buy an island? I would think the island would have to be one that isn't part of another country. You could buy an island as a private residence, but that wouldn't be a country. You would have to have people behind you. Otherwise it would be an island of one.

The idea of starting your own country has been in the minds of many freedom minded people for a while. For instance the New Utopia project has been around for a while. It has not taken off due to the founder being a broke washed up old con man but the idea was and is solid IMHO. Perhaps with the right people and some money this idea can take off. The spot they worked out was great. It is a 160 square mile piece of land in the Caribbean that is only submerged about 50 feet deep. It could be filled in to 20 feet above sea level for about 2 million US per acre with rock from Mexico. 2 million per acre in the middle of the Caribbean in a very free country is not a bad price all things considered. Condos would sell for the low 50-60K starting price and be 5 to 10 stories high.I would buy one for sure if there was no taxes and a non intrusive government.

Well, as long as nobody stops you, you can declare a nation. Even within a nation, you can declare yourself and others who are willing to; a brand new type of people.

Of course, this is against the government in their eyes, and bad things may happen depending on your little country.

Or do like the great nation of Sealand did...

This guy bought an offshore platform, declared sovereignty and has maintained his "micro-nation" since 1967!

It's been done before. You should check out the TV series, "How to Start your Own Country" by Danny Wallace who covers all the bases and lets you know just what is required for independance!

You should also check out his nations website

Declaring self-independance though will likely result in an international blacklisting. Ever hear of Abkhazia, Transdniester, or South Ossetia? If you haven't it's because the international community refuses to acknowledge their existence as independant nations. And if you want your new nation to join the UN you'll need a two thirds majority vote from all member states. But even if you get that the most powerful nations, i.e The US, China, Russia or the UK can still veto the application. Anyway, good look mate, I'm behind you if you decide to make a real go of it!
