It's great that you were able to return to school. Depending on the state, some will not allow people to do that while collecting benefits.

Here's what might happen if you get caught:

wiki.answers.com... yment_compensation

If you attempt to attend school while on UI and do not report it to them, there is a period of 3 years from the end of your claim that they can do a fraud investigation that could result in both fines and jail time. Please don't risk it. As stated above, the laws for each state will differ, however most at this time treat online college by the number of hours the courses are worth; and do not take into consideration that you may be taking them at night. Exceeding the amount of hours allowed by the UI program constitutes fraud, and you could end up in a lot of trouble for attempting it.

And before you say they should get jobs lets be real here this economy is shot. So what will happen with people starving and loosing everything.

I think innovation and ingenuity will kick in once people realize they have nothing to fall back on. New businesses will be born, new employees hired, and new wealth created.

We dont violate the Constitution or other foundations of freedom because of what "might" happen if we dont.

Personally, I think rough and troubled times are needed in order to escort this current government we have right out of office and hopefully into a prison cell.

A new start is needed one way or another.

The problem is my friend that we all are affected or about to be affected I already have posted in other threads of similar subject how even my husband very well pay job is about to take a hit very soon thanks to Obama way of doing in sourcing.

But, many doesn't understand that when you have live all your life working hard to get to the point you are in your life taking a hit in salary is worst than going unemployed.

You see your life hard work turning from your version of the American dream to crap.

Because the mistakes of governments officials in the nation that can not live looking the prosperity of the working class and the Independence from government that it brings.

What worried me was thinking two things. One, was this loophole in a bill written by a lobbyist and rubber stamped by the legislature? And, if this could happen so easily and so unknowingly to officials, what about the electronic voting machines? It's all in the programming.

3 years ago I was on unemployment for 2 months and busted my ass trying to find a job because I simply couldn't afford my bills...and quite frankly I felt like a bum for even being on it. And I guarantee that most unemployed feel that way as well. No one likes not being able to provide for their family.

This is an entirely different situation and if people don't get the help they need...there will be hell to pay.

I hope Republicans take both the house and the Senate....Democrats have proven to cater more to corporations anyway...although not all...but enough to derail any real reform to pretty much anything.

Let Republicans feel the wrath. They will get it....if they think they will be able to do this kind of garbage while they sit in the driver's seat then they are dreaming.

3 million people showed up to see Obama get elected. That's how much this country was craving a new direction...and those people are seeing their hopes CRUSHED.

You tell me how they are going to react.....

I agree we do need what you have said but if there is nothing left it will be hard to do that.

This is huge please step back and look at the implications of it millions all at once loosing what little they have left. This nation can not take it right now. It is so fragile this will push it over the top.

Not without tariffs. We can't compete with slave labor. What you are stating is a pipe dream.

The federal government has no place creating jobs. It's not part of their charter. They have been doing so at an alarming rate nonetheless.

The government has done all it can to bilge the water out of this sinking ship. It's not that I want everything to fail, but the reality of the matter is that through wall street manipulation and lobbyist corporate interests have intentionally bankrupted this country. The pyramid scheme we have called an economy has been wounded beyond repair. It was assassinated. No amount of money that we throw at it will resuscitate it.

There are no good options here, what part of that does everyone not get? I wish there was a magic wand that could create money and jobs and make everything better, but that's not how it works.

BS we don't have the money.

We seem to be able to find the money to funnel overseas, both for ridiculous "wars" and for ridiculous "aid" to other countries, including Israel ALONE to the tune of about what was it $7 million dollars a day alone? So double BS that we don't have the money.

It's at times like this that a simple repiroritization can go a long way. Unfortunately the brainiacs in DC love to feed YOU excuses and make everything seem so much more complex than it is.

And they do it on purpose to put you to sleep with the legalese and mumbo jumbo hoping you'll go away and you do.

Or how's this? Pull back, even temporarily, some of the multi-billion dollar contracts our own DoD has with China and India and retool our plants here and put some Americans who already HAVE the skills back to work for their war effort.

And speaking of that...how about we scale back on this war of choice? We could leave both Afghanistan and Iraq for a few years and return to find them pretty much where we left them. Technically.

It's time to get creative and put America first again or for a change. When you run a business in a smart and ethical fashion, you typically leave your solid core of employees in tact and hire contractors and vendors for peaks then let them go during valleys, leaaving your core strong and healthy. The same logic should have applied to this offshoring of jobs and employment of Americans. And now that we're feeling the effects, instead of playing footsie and pandering to every communist capitalist who is in fact now LAUGHING at us, pull back some jobs or at the very least some contracts.

If Obama can sign an executive order for amnesty for 11 million illegals he sure as sugar can sign one to free some money up for Americans who are out of work.

So I don't buy that we have no money. Nope.

What I buy is that we have a worthless Congress and a wimp of a president who care nothing about the plight of THIS country and its people.

Want to help the unemployed? Stop allowing corporations to send our jobs overseas.

Want to fund the unemployment bill? How about we stop handing Israel 3 billion a year? Or I know.. stop with the endless goddamn wars that cost billions per month.

Oh wait.. im sorry. That would be logical.

I do agree with you in principle.
But practice is another thing if they do not extend the lifeline to people right now it could have very large implications with regards to our very nation.

These are not stupid people voting on this I dont understand how they cant see that if this does not pass they might not have states to return to anymore. I believe it is that big of a issue. Bigger then oil or wars or banks failing.

This will hit people in there homes and personal lives.

A lot of states have a program to attend college while drawing unemployment sorry this is no excuse. My advise contact your local unemployment office and ask about job training. Most computer stuff for example qualifies you even get financial assistance for tuition in some cases. Key to these programs is realize its job training.
I entered a program and even after i found work continued until i was done. Yeah I could have said ah to much trouble and stopped. But again waiting around for something to happen nothing tends to happen. Get out there and make things happen if it involves moving going to school whatever you need to do to secure your future you do it!

PS you guys can say its cold but remember the only person that can help you is you others tend to let you down.

I disagree. It's repairable. There are ways to get American businesses to come back to this country. Many are starting to already as wages rise in India and China.

Problem is your crooked Congress doesn't want to do this. Take it up with them. I do daily.

If the Democrats were smart they would make a bill just about the extension and leave everything else out. They need to do something and fast. This is a big issue for both parties and could determine the next elections.

I can't do it alone. No one can. I get form letters back, but I'm not stopping.

Oh and what other measures are you referring to?

While some states have those sorts of programs, others do not. Some might allow you to attend school on a part time basis, because they look at it as, people who are unemployed should be spending their time looking for work, while collecting benefits.

What I meant to suggest, is that people need to check with the laws in each state, regarding unemployment, before they get themselves into hot water thinking they can become full time students, while unemployed.

It's not repairable all fiat monetary system end badly! it is a mathematical certainty. Every fiat system in history ended very badly and they only last about 40 years. We went completely off the gold standard in 1971 I believe. You can do the math.

You can only charge the credit card up so much without paying before the bills all come due. Essentially that is what our system is i.e. a giant credit card they thought was unlimited and never had to make the payments. We are seeing deflation is real estate and big ticket items and inflation in essentials like food and gas etc. When we see hyperinflation in essentials the end is nigh!

It's like giving whisky and car keys to a teenager and telling them to not get in trouble.

Okay, I swear I didn't see this or know about this when I said what I said in my post above.

But take a look at this.

I guess this is a whole new set of issues. But see? He can issue executive orders to help with this.

Yes, I agree.. And, if they absolutely wanted to, they could just print new money and pass it out.

The problem is that they don't care. We don't have the pull lobbyist have. We cannot threaten to collapse the stock market if we don't get out way.

10 years from now, you'll be praising this as the moment that kicked the public into action and leads us to a return of by the people for the people government and a true free market.
