This is a reaction to US multinationals messing around in South American countries's economies. They've had their dirty hands all over the continent for so long, now its payback. Go Chavez! This is the only language the multinationals will understand.

Chavez, is a TOOL of the multi-nationals. BTW- "Oil Rigs", are sea-going vessels. "siezing them", is an act of Piracy- WAR, in simpler terms.
If they are not allowed towithdraw them- well, we know how easy they burn, eh? What a shame, if all of Venezuela's nice beaches were ruined, along with their ecology. "War is Hell". Peace sucks, too. (oh- the war never ended??-my bad!)

Yup that would appear to be an accurate summary of US foreign policy!

So, Chavez is an evil dictator, right? A dictator that somehow keeps getting democratically elected, but whatever. That's what his critics call him - even critics that know nothing about him other than what they're spoon-fed by Fox News.

But let's just go with "Hugo Chavez is an evil dictator."

Why do people defend these companies that do business with him?

Reminds me of the story of the snake and the woman. "You knew I was a snake when yo. picked me up." They knew who Chavez was, but thought they could profit from working in Venezuela. They took the risk, so it's their own damn fault.

People who want Obama to do something to "rescue" these companies are essentially asking for another bailout for companies that fail at business. They want him to help another company that made a bad business decision. I mean, really - setting up shop in a country known for nationalizing industry? And you expect the US to come to your rescue? Sorry, no go.

America HAS a "foreign policy". I thought our Feeless Leader (whichever one he is), just sent-in the troops?
So- FEDGOV, will NOT protect our borders. FEDGOV, will NOT PROTECT US CITIZENS. FEDGOV openly cooperates with our KNOW, declared enemies. What, is the definition of TREASON, again? (rhetorical).

America, needs to return to the U.S.Constitution, and the BILL OF RIGHTS. All else, will take care of itself.

Sic Semper Tyrannis!

Chavez is a murderer you can even ask his own people about this, he killed, black-mailed, and kidnapped to gain power, he also extorted just like these Americans you say are doing the same thing. Chavez is a tyrannical dictator like any other and to call the man a legend is idiotcricy.

Sensational - I love it when the US gets the finger from Chavez

I might look into this more - but this looks purely like the US companies using extortion - so Chavez has just siezed the rigs - nice.

Just when I thought I had read the most stupid comment in ATS someone goes and raises the bar.

Chavez isn't just "giving the finger" to the US, he has cheated numerous international oil companies out of millions due to them under their drilling contracts, so those companies shut down production - what else could they do, they weren't being paid.

Money is owed by Venezuela to these companies, and those drilling assets also belong to them, so not only has Chavez not paid for the drilling services, he is now stealing the assets owned by those companies.

The US drills for oil and we are capitalist weasels, Venezuela forces US companies to pump their oil for free and then steals their rigs, but that's cool because they are somehow "giving us the finger".

How does your head get to be in that place?

You love a Dictator so much you are making up theories to side with him? Who is not centered in reality here. My God, the man took over the media, he is bankrupting what could have been a rich Capitalist nation just like Castro did.

Goldman Sachs, Obama, Soros are all the same people. Nothing I said excused them. Nothing at all. So I don't get that point. they are easy to understand. Nationalize all business, Unionize all workers and of course with them in control and very, very rich.

If you're so against Socialism and Pro-Capitalism why quote 2 Socialists in your signature? Ghandi was a Communist.

If both those quoted in your sig were alive today do you think they'd support the American empire of Chavez?

You do know lots of Venezuela suffers because of Chavez's decisions, don't you? No alternative media, electrical power supply failings, resources to only those he likes.....It is not freedom in that country. Do you get that? So why do you like it that he snubs the U.S.A., a country that is (generally) always trying to be a free country, even though the U.S.A. has it's problems?

[edit on 25-6-2010 by problemsolvr]

Chavez is critiscised in the media daily in Venezuela. No alternative media? The biggest media network in Venezual is ANTI-Chavez.

Maybe you should educate yourself on Venezuela before making stuff up.

USA trying to be a free country? You really have no idea of anything, do you?

Nobody who believes Chavez is a "hero" has enough brains to own a business. She's a big time libtard to the nth degree.

I urge some of you to visit Venezuela.

Chavez is LOVED by his people. The only opposition I ever witnessed to this man was from the rich elite within Venezuela and the anti-Socialists around the world. Mainly Americans who've been brainwashed.

Have you ever read any research on reporting of Venezuela and Chavez? Even the BBC, who are touted as being left-wing Socialists are insanely biased AGAINST him.

Nobody can say anything bad about the man other than "but faux news sayz he's a dictaturz"

None of you Capitalists take note of the good he's done for Venezuela and its people, you only care that your country can no longer financially rape them.

When the American funded Nazis kicked Chavez out of power in the coup and kidnapped the man what happened? Hundreds of thousands marched the Palace and the national guards took back power

Here's what Ali Abdessalam Treki of the UN had to say on Wednesday;

“What Venezuela has achieved with regards to the Millennium Development Goals should serve as a model for all other countries.”

The report from the institute states that Venezuela has already achieved a great majority of the goals with five years to spare.

Treki added: “We appreciate very much the leading role Venezuela has played” in “promoting the Millennium Development goals.”

Venezuela signed up to the Millennium Development Goals at a UN summit in 2002 along with 188 other countries, according to which each nation would do all it could to reach eight social goals by 2015.

The goals are to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis and other diseases, ensure environmental sustainability, and develop a global partnership for development.

.....

Why isn't this being reported en-mass by the media, why isn't this a focal point? Why does the MSM media only ever highlight his supposed flaws. This from a media most Americans believe to be liberal? LOL

So much false information and propoganda in this thread. Go to Venezuela, watch the media in the morning. They're venemous in their hatred of Chavez and it shows. Maybe more so than the American media. They call him a murdering nazi every other day. Comparing him to Stalin and the like lol

No surprise considering these anti-Chavez stations are bank rolled by AMERICA.

Infact maybe we can look at all successfull anti-Chavez parties and media within Venezuela, you'll find the large majority of bankrolled by Washington and the CIA.

The reality is this, Chavez is loved the world over, more importantly the people of Venezuela love him. Why do Americans want to force their way of life on a country that is HAPPY with their government?

Under chavez unemployment is low, inflation is down massively, the highest income per-capita in Latin America, globally one of the LEAST effected by the economic crisis, good literacy rates, government has great approval ratings, universal health care, universal primary education, enviromentally they're going good(despite lies in this thread).

What is it that Chavez has done wrong? Other than tell the American empire to mind its own business!

Most the problems in Venezual can be pinned on America, quite objectively. AS is the case with most the WORLD, actually.

Nice non sequitur argument.

Unless of course you're one of the 7,552,570(2009 figures) internet users in Venezuela.

Or the 750 + info centers giving you free access to the internet across Venezuela.

Keep in mind both these numbers are RAPIDLY increasing.

More false claims.
