Well Katla has been having atleast one quake around 3 richter each week now. Nothing indicating at the moment that it is increasing.

See, I knew I was not crazy. I watch it daily and see this happens at least once a week, sometimes more.

I posted just a bit ago that I saw it happen.

Thank you

It seems like they are pretty reguarly removing quakes now. I think they are worried about something, and I think they are even more worried about the effects on the economy, so they are trying to keep any possible, or potential rumors down.

Drilling and fracking on top of magma cant be good.

I did find this article which is interesting (slow link for some reason):

More than 500 Quakes Near Katla Volcano in October

i' would like to approach the Iceland Volcano's in the larger context... instead of looking at the independent treesand not seeing the forest

sure the whole mid-Atlantic ridge is suddenly very active.
it seems a case of sneaking up on us right before our eyes.

during Earth history, particulary at the Permian-Triassic Boundary (P-T)
there were the massive Siberian Traps vulcanism, which i think is getting repeated Now...
all along the mid-Atlantic Ridge, and 2 points of focus: Iceland & Canary Islands; or west of Gibralter/Spain

www.google.com...

palaeo.gly.bris.ac.uk...

The Siberian Traps were the largest volcanic eruption in Earth history and they occured right at the same time as the largest extinction event in Earth history.

The Siberian Traps are a large igneous province were a result of a mantle plume. A mantle plume is a giant pulse of heat that rises towards the surface from the core/mantle boundary. Plumes are easily indentified but not well understood and they are believed to be part of a cooling mechanism for the core. Whatever their cause a large amount of anomalously hot material rises to the surface and ponds below the earths crust in a head which can be 1000's of km wide and 100's of km deep....

i suggest there are new & huge mantle plumes rising all along 'old' magma spots...being some kind of reaction caused by the inner & outer Earth core being extremely active with the lower & upper Mantle... for some reason starting a decade or so ago.

perhaps the Earth is in the process of Pole Reversal which is just a side effect of the inner-outer Core rotations
getting magnetically twisted...and that process causes gigantic Mantle Plumes to reach the Crust layer of the Earth...
which we witness as Volcano's, out-gassing, Earth sea-bed expansion, etc etc...
or perhaps a repeat of the Siberian Traps massive vulcanism which created some 2 million square miles of new surface on the Planet

Thought i would keep this thread afloat!

Activity still ongoing in and around Katla.

en.vedur.is...

Noticed Jon Frimann tweeted recently that he expressed a little frustration about peoples over reaction to the activity in Katla, especially at some reports of an imminent eruption.

Personally, i am woefully uneducated in this field, so i'll monitor his blog and reaction to ongoing events.

We might be seing some action from katla now, a small tremor plot started up last night with about 24 small quakes the largest one being 2,1 richter, then one happend this morning and it´s measured at 2,9 richter.
Most of the quakes including the 2 larger ones are happening at the depth of -0.1km so it´s right at the top. This might be ice cracking up though. We had around the same activity last year with really shallow quakes like these and nothing happent then. So here´s hoping for Ice cracking up.
