Earthquake shakes Central Canada, U.S.

www.theglobeandmail.com

There are reports of unusual ground shaking in various parts of Ontario, including Ottawa and Toronto. The Toronto newsroom of The Globe and Mail shook just before 1:45 p.m. EDT. The Ottawa newsroom was evacuated.

Various reports on Twitter suggest the earthquake was felt as far away as Ohio, New York and Michigan.

WOW

I am in Barrie, ON and I felt it last 10 seconds or so. Our whole house shook, the ceiling fan was swaying. No damage that I know of was done here.

I had never felt an earthquake before. It took me a few seconds to wrap my head around what was happening!

It was pretty surreal and my heart was pounding... Just crazy.

Is there such a thing as a pre-shock? What if June 23 means a massive earthquake that rocks from Montreal to Toronto to New York. Maybe a huge one destroying buildings.

I'm way up in Timmins, Ontario and I felt it, too! My computer screen monitor and the chair I was sitting on wobbled about noticeable for around 20 seconds or so. At first I thought it was a big truck that drove by on the nearby highway, but now that I read the time when this tremor occurred I realize what it was.
