Interesting, is Julia Gillard associated with fabian society?

The Australian Fabian Society cites their 'Four General Aims' on their organisation's website as being:

1. To contribute to a renaissance of left of centre and progressive thought, by generating and disseminating ideas that are original, meet the challenge of the times, and are of high intellectual quality.

2. To contribute, by getting these ideas into the public domain, to the creation of a left of centre political culture and consensus.

3. To help create an active movement of people identifying with the left of centre and engaged in political debate.

4. To influence the ideas and policies of the Labor Party (and other parties) and Labor Governments to encourage progressive reform in practice

Explanation: Unfortunately Australia has never had a directly elected leader by the general voting demographic! We only get to vote for a local member and really thats not a vote for them but a vote for the policies their party is running with and then the party itself determines who amongst them is to lead them all! For Independants this is an extraordinarily easy process but for the larger political parties it is frought with political knife fights to the death.

A new member to parliment turned up for his 1st day sitting in the house and as he settled down in his seat he mused out loud towards the opposition siting across from him... "Ahha! The enemy!" and a long standing old and wisened member sitting next to him coughed loudly "erherm! No Mate! Thats the opposition. Your real enemies are sitting all around you!"!!!

Personal Disclosure:

When I was watching Rudd's press conference last night, all I could think about was how fired-up he sounded. First time in about two years I reckon. If he had been this passionate over the last couple of years then this maybe wouldn't have happened.

as to who the PM should be, they're all equally retarded so I'm not sure but I have the least issues with gillard.

For the moment you mean ... give it a couple of months!!

Congratulations to the H.R Nicholls society on their win on mining tax reform to which Rudd was pushing through. Of which Opposition leader Abbott is a member.

www.sourcewatch.org...

Abbott is the biggest boofhead I’ve ever seen in a pair of budgie smugglers.

Bring on the election so we can vote for someone the political party likes that day.

Who are these party hacks who control nothing but lies and deceit who can sack Prime Ministers without a vote of the people who elect them?

Sad day for our democracy that greed and corruption win again.

I always feel crap when I see a grown man cry. I must admit that although Rudd had lost my confidence over the last 7-9 months, I still felt sorry for the guy this morning.

I agree completely with your post.

The miners tax propaganda is a disgrace.

I think you might find this guy is one of them ...

But who?? They're all terrible.

Edit to add: sigh... I wish Steve Irwin was still around. What about Dame Edna?

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. I don't want an Australian version of a NeoCon running this country and taking us back into the 50's on women's rights, gay rights and workers rights, healthcare, education, ENVIRONMENT etc etc etc.

Abbott hasn't shown us one policy mate. And he's already told us we can't trust a word he says unless it's in black and white.

That might be worse.
Why do we bother to vote though when this can happen?

Hmm, honestly. I dont know what to think.
Me thinks she's a smart and witty cat.. as for politics?..

She looks to.. folksy to me.

Helen Clark back home might as well have been a man...

But Gillard?...

One thing about Australian PM's.. is they seem to be well spoken.

Howard, was a tool. but well spoken.
Rudd was a tool, but well spoken.
Gillard isnt a tool, and seems to clustered in her talking.
Abbots even worse..

I'd love to run for Politics.. but Australia would never elect a kiwi! : )
