I am pretty sure I'd have to get out the pressure washer after one blast from the old 12 gauge. I wonder what color the splatter would be....blue??

Hi,

Nature fine tunes all its creature, i believe design follows function. If you saw it and are still alive you might want to ask why its arms are so long and spiny (at our scale spines would look more like knives), but your best bet would be to run like hell. The good part is that you can tell right away that it might be hostile and you would be on alert.
I would really be worried about the ones that look just like us. I could be, though design follows function, the human being (humanoid from what ever galaxy) possesses free will, to choose any functions and so nature abiding by the rules has giving them (humanoids) no specific inherent design that tells you whether it’s a monster or a friend!

Not to be alarmist, but I heard that a while back the military was developing weapon. A few spy photos were taken, but the military never acknowledged its existence...

Funny you were scared of them and I was actually quite fond of them. I used to play with them all the time when I was a kid, and oddly enough ever since I have moved to Rhode Island, I get one that seems to come and visit me every summer. Sits in my kitchen window. I always figure it for good luck.

As far as the alien part of it, I did go off searching that last night and found more then I thought I would actually. Seemed to be mixed thoughts of weather they were good or bad, but I guess that is typical of most things like this.

Since I like to believe in the positive of things, here is one of the better descriptions of the Praying Mantis Alien.

"A more distinctive kind of Star Visitor is the "Praying Mantis type" race. These Beings have long, narrow faces, with long, narrow, large eyes, sharply slanted upward and outward in an almost narrow-V position, given an almost insect-like appearance. This comparison is heightened by the Praying-Mantis types' extremely thin, long torsos, long, extremely-thin arms which are usually crooked into a sharp bend at the mid-joint, with the hand and fingers/mitten sloping almost vertically downward from the "wrist", and legs also bent at an almost right-angle at the mid-joint, creating a crouched pose. The overall effect is the characteristic "Praying Mantis" look. It should be noted that experiencers feel that this type is no insect, but rather an intelligent, gentle-spirited, but somewhat "hyper" and jerky-moving, human-like lifeform. There are both males and females. Star Nations Councillor Meata says that the Praying Mantis beings are gifted with the Spiritual Teachings, and visit Humans particularly when this kind of help is needed to be shared. These beings often are called Angels by people because they wear garments that are very shiny."

More can be read about this here
Various Kinds of Star Visitors

Can't help but think since we are on the topic, the fact that it has been mentioned over and over that we have made deals with alien lifeforms for yada yada yada. Some claim they are of the negative type. What if they are the humanoid looking types so we don't notice them amongst us.

Be pretty rich if the bad guys looked like us and the good guys were actually the Mantis type eh?

That was actually developed for the LAPD... it's their latest SWAT vehicle.

I think aliens are all over the place - they are just completely different from us.
Some of them, for example, multiply much faster and live only few seconds. Some don't ever die - they live for ever - one evolving organism living eternally. Some are small - really small and long/thin.

Some are massive. Milky way in the stomach of one of them. This is what we call dark matter - his transparent body.

Can you imagine alien living in a different time mode - much slower one, because of their fast movement. They think they live long lives, but we don't even see them, because they move too fast.

I have no idea why humanoid aliens should even be considered as the only potential extraterrestrials?

true, Agree with most that you said

aliens can be anything, they probably arent humanoids

they probably dont have our size

so, dont worry, if you see an alien +- our size, it is probably an hallucination

but the thing about humanoids, is that maybe they made us or changed some DNA to make us or to help us or just to control us, so, maybe we are the ones who look like them, instead of them looking like us

who knows, these are just guesses ...

If hostile aliens do show up and decide to cause violence, it will not be a case of machine guns versus lasers. No, it will be nuclear weapons versus sponges. If they are hostile there is nothing that we can do to them with physical violence. The best tactic would be the use of biological agents, our evolutionary earned rights, to defeat them. Our bombs, guns, and knives will have no effect. Our blood, sweat, and tears will...kind of poetic, no?

You know I have always had it kick around in my head a bit the thought that we are the humanoids. As much as we are tinkering with stem cell research, cloning and robotics, I wouldn't be surprised if in the future we have created ourselves. Lol if That made sense!

The Mantis beings are already known to exist I thought
and as far as judging a book by its cover I am sure we are just as wierd looking to them as they are to us so I wouldnt have a problem at all especially if they were here to help free the herd!!!!!! Now if they are just helping to entrap the herd into more lame rullership worst then wat we have controlling us now then they can avoid even tryen to help, otherwise COME ON IN FRIENDS IS HOW I FEEL....

I very much doubt we'll be socialising with non humanoid or humanoid Aliens any time soon. The bacteria & viruses they are carrying will probably kill you in a matter of hours. Also when it comes to Aliens, there's absolutely no way to tell if they are hostile or friendly during a first encounter, as looks can be deceiving. Just because they look human doesn't mean they are. They could so easily be using holographic technology to camouflage their true identity. Therefore I highly doubt first contact would be friendly, unless the Aliens take control of the situation by knocking you out first and then bringing you aboard their spaceship, whereby they'll either greet you or eat you.

If 12-foot tall mantis creatures start showing up on Earth I'd be okay with that if they aren't trying to devour or destroy everything in their way.

Although, if 12-foot coconut crabs start appearing, I'll enlist sharpish. As shown in the picture below, a whole different game compared to the mantis. In all fairness, should something like the picture below be 12-feet tall, Red Lobster will probably do the fighting for us for free.

I think the evil humanoid aliens are already here running the oil companies.

The diversity of life on our planet confirms that such diversity is probable out there too.

Our physical evolution, ie reptile brain, urges us to be repelled, fight or flight. But our spiritual minds tell us that we need and tend to, even to love the strangest parts of our ecosystem. People have pets or all sorts and personalities.

Love is both a human emotion and conduit of comunication to other species. Although we as humans struggle with ingnorant predudices, I am proud overall of how we have grown spiritually.

I believe benevolent aliens, no matter what they look like, comunicate telepathically. For those who are able to learn this skill, appearances will fall away.

Although I'm not a religious person, our culture encourages prayer. It asks us to develope telepathy with other, maybe higher intellegence.

If Noah was an ship builder/ astronaut, his cargo didn't need to nagivate their ship, but they still got the other side...

It's comical to see how many people support this silly thread (which has been done a million times over). The thread has been given 24 flags already which means it's well on the way to ATS front page if not there already.

How many threads have I seen lately declaring the alien/ufo forum to be failing? Yet here we are putting the OP on ATS' front page when he has not bothered to do the the slightest research! Quote from the OP:

Also, if you think about some of the crop circles and ummm, hell I forget the name of those lines you can only see from the air, but I'm sure you know what I mean. They have had depictions of spiders and whatnot. Have they been a clue?

I understand that no one is perfect. And yes 90% of people here knew what you meant. Still, all you had to do was go to google and type the exact words you typed on ATS. I went to google and typed "lines you can only see from the air depictions of spider" and guess what I got? Nazca lines popped up on the 1st google search page, including the Nazca Lines Wiki page.

It may sound harsh, but if you want people to take a small fraction of what we talk about (in this forum) seriously, you may want to turn up the scholarly factor just a bit.

and perhaps that one small weakness of mine keeps me humble and human as well. Should I be proud I spell checked or proud I actually had a thought to at least try share?

Sometimes it amazes me how many "Gist" of things get lost around here due to typos or lack of "PROPER DELIVERY."

By the way, I am proud this thread made it to the front page with all of its flaws and errors. It makes me happy to see people enjoying the discussion, and I would have never even heard of the coconut crab much less seen a picture if this thread hadn't of made it this far!

Hello to everyone! Today is my 1st post. I've been visiting this site since March 2008. I really don't know why today I felt the need to post, but the topic is interesting. I've wondered for years why people are so excited about 'visitors'. My thinking is this: if another race/being/thing were able to travel from their world to ours, they would be more technologically advanced than us. It makes sense. Why on Earth does anyone think that these 'visitors' will be benign/friendly? People seem to think it will be E.T. visiting instead of the Predator. I just don't think that an intelligent being would travel the universe to simply meet other classes of life. If they come they are comin for the goodies we have: people for food, and the water to wash us down.
