While I am not in favor of "mass amnesty" I do think this is an important part of a REAL solution to the immigration problem.
First and foremost the border must be secured.
Secondly the legal immigration process has to be streamlined and we have to set up satellite offices across the border to help them immigrate
lawfully.
Lastly, we have to have an "amnesty period" where illegals can turn themselves in and go through the legal process of becoming immigrants. They can
be checked out and documented and given their papers.
NOW...after these three steps are taken, anybody remaining illegally should be treated as a foreign combatant or dangerous criminal. The border
cannot be so porous, and the penalties for sneaking across should be SEVERE! But, first we have to fix the current situation.
