No sodomy!? Is that just for gay people or for everyone? Remind me to never go to Texas.

I like my sodomy, not ass sex, but oral. These people are so freaking up tight man, that is going to be one boring ass state. Just expect all the young people to leave.

We oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Hmmm.
Sounds like "special rights" to me!

Yeah, could they be more fuzzy in their legal definition?
Why don't the prejudiced cowards just come right out and say "evangelical Christians".
What nitwits!

We are talking about Texas, a state that is SEVERELY behind and backwards in every regards.

Texas -- a legend ONLY in the minds of its own citizens.

I'm sorry, but this confuses me. Whose platform is this, exactly? I don't see any reference to the official GOP or the imprimatur that would make this official. Authorized signatures, anyone?

Maybe this is a fringe group. All I can say about that is, First Amendment.

Actually, Texas citizens are not as bad as that. It's the damn GOP and their shady gerrymandering tactics that have allowed them to keep their foot on the throat of progress.

Well, there has been progress in Texas. We are fiscally in better shape than most states.

Cheap shot.
You don't know much about Texas, it is clear. And, this isn't about Texas, it is about Texas politics.
Think about the two parties (Democrat and GOP) this way.
Your daughter is dating two guys (girls, I don't care you PC freaks),
one believes that all Republicans are god-fearing, closet homosexual racist whites that love major corporations even though they are selling out America for easy profits overseas,
and the other believes that Democrats are godless, unpatriotic, anything goes nothing is sacred, commies that think the constitution is garbage and no one will own property some day if we don't eradicate this America-killing virus.
Make your choice.
That is basically the choice we are given, NATIONALLY.
Would you get the idea that these two have been indoctrinated, and maybe you don't want your daughter living with this kind of shallow person?
Hey, me too, and I am from Texas.

They going to bring back Jim Crow as well?

Sounds like the only thing missing...

Interesting, whaaa, since GOP politicians (like Texas Rep Joe Barton etal )for years have been sucking up to whatever corporation (like the oil or financial industry) they're in bed with.

And they've received payment for their services, too, for heaven's sake, and I'll bet prostitution is illegal in Texas, too. No, I'm quite sure, that, once again, this law would only apply to the "small people."

If my memory serves, I think that the hunting for scapegoats was tried in Germany awhile back with the Jews. That worked out well!

I was born and raised in Texas and still have a farm there so I still maintain contact with friends. Some of my friends are Hispanic, also born and raised in Texas and they tell me that the anti illegal alien fervor is spilling over with generalized racist overtones to people of color.

And they said it "can't happen here"

God help us!

What the hell is wrong with Texas? Is it that they need tax revenue? What?

Oh, but, whaaa, it has, it has. Lesbians, gays, feminists, pagans, abortionists, and liberal judges were blamed for 9-11.

And, if your memory and mine go a tad further back, Communists were to blame for the downfall of America. Now it's politically fashionable to blame Socialists and Marxists. And, don't forget Pat Buchanan's secular humanists and Rush's feminazis and environmental wackos.

No, whaaa, the termite titans of energy and finance have eaten away at the structural wealth of this great nation, destroying the country you and I remember, doing more damage than a Wiccan ever possibly could...or would.

Ohh poor GOP.

Desperate folk always go to the extremists when they have nobody left.

Very sad indeed.

I can't wait to look back at this world in 50 years and watch our children's children laugh at us for being so incompetent and worried about things that have NO effect on anything.

Way to go Texas!

When I first voted, and I never missed voting even when I lived overseas, I first voted Republican. It was the party of Lincoln, and I admired that. It was for a strong defense and pro-business, and I admired that. After the Carter Presidency, and the 70's. The whole damn decade depressed me. I voted for Reagan twice, I didn't think he was the smartest man, but he had strong convictions, seemed very kind, never petty, never said "gotcha"! whenever possible for political reasons. but most important? He made me feel good about being an American again, and I was not alone. My first job was for the Feds, and as a young officer I was sometimes in a crowded room of not-so-happy people, and I was the only American and representative of the whole U.S. Government. And every mothers son knew it. At 22, I had guts, and little smarts. Feeling good about my country was a survival tool. And a Godsend. Mr Reagan, you have no idea how important that was and you have no idea how much I admired you for what you did, a belated Thank You from me, and you will never know how much I needed that!

And now what in Gods name is your problem down there in Texas? I can't figure it out. I get down there all the time, I have a distributor down there. Every time the people are always kind and considerate, and not just the people who work with me. And yet I leave and some transformation happens. I have a degree in chemistry maybe its something in the air or water, but I doubt it. I also have a degree in history, were I think the answer may be. You might have the dreaded and fatal "Stalin Disease."Aside from killing most of generals, bad idea even if they wanted to kill him, he rewrote whole sections of scientific laws. Things like: "what happens when you drop something"? or what happens when something blows up"? Well things started falling down and blowing up, a whole lot. Russia has always been very good in hard core science, specifically physics. It took them decades to recover at incredible human, financial, environmental and spiritual cost. I want to hire Americans, I make a great effort to, its hard sometimes to get US, but I won't stop. Why? OK, it may sound schmaltzy, but the truth is I'm an American, and I worry about our competitiveness every moment because of a lack of skills in some disciplines.

I understand some people in Texas actually break out if someone mentions "evolution"? If you think it's only a theory? I don't recommend it but if you get a nasty infection, and don't finish the full antibiotic course, there is an excellent chance a mutation will occur and the new bug, if we have a worse case scenario, can become whats called "flesh eating bacteria" (Its a lot worse then it sounds) Some version of that happens, that is evolution billions of times, every day, though usually less "obvious" all over the Earth.. It does not care what you believe in and unlike politics, wouldn't think of discriminating. Go ahead and try. Why would this be in a post on politics? Maybe its the sickening abandonment of basic Republican ideals, I believed in when they meant things like limited government, which did not mean NO Government. If ET lands on my lawn, I don't care if he says he was invited I want THE WHOLE US GOVERNMENT AT MY HOUSE IN 5MN. It meant consenting adults could do, what the term means. As long as their adults and no one dies, stay out of the dam bedroom. Any questions? You are making and a** out of your self, and yes you had that coming. Because its your apparent almost pathological need to bring about a past that never was, could not change what actually happened by time travel, not to mention I would not' trust anyone myself included with the keys. And if you do change "the past" to one you prefer? Guess what, that past was a train wreck of injustice, illness, hunger. Even "the rich" had no plumbing, central heat, no personal communications, I suppose someone could always start their barn on fire. And the cockroaches were big enough for license plates, but unless you could teach them to race, whats the point? Whats the goal? I differ on a number of political issues in Texas, but I always thought of you as honest. And since I still do, and trust the people at my shop implicitly. I'm missing something big, I want to know what. And I rarely miss much. Some kind of weird, Texas version of new-age-happy feelings stuff? Oh please. ET's more likely to ask me if he can fly MY military jet trainer ultimate guy-toy because he say's its "way cool". Well, it is.

I agree with much of what you wrote, but YOU know Texas. It is big. Real big.
Yes, we have our bigots. The Texas GOP is out of touch, but you know what?
So is the Democratic Party.
Everybody I meet that comes to Texas says Texans are the friendliest people they have ever met. Unfortunately, we have a Neocon, Perry, and we have the GOP on one side, and the Progressive Party machine on the other, and they both suck.
We also have more home schooled kids than most anywhere else, and there is a reason for that, but I won't go into it here.

The trend of Texas lately suggests the following laws and penalties are NOT an unlikely possibility in the near future:

1. Premarital sex = Automatic castration of reproductive organ.

2. ANY disagreement of the Bible and christian faith = Stoned to death.

3. Friendship or association with a non-christian = Death by sword.

4. Refusal to offer animal sacrifice for God = Death of your 1st born child.

5. Absenteeism from church = 3500 hours community service.

6. Any public or private affection towards a member of the same sex whether of sexual nature or not = Public hanging.

"Dont mess with Texas" -- No messing required, its already MESSED up!

so,
Adios.

Once again I ask: whose platform is this, really? I do not see any official endorsement of it anywhere.

And to those trying to pin this on Texans, the GOP, or southerners: I can find equivalent moonbats in California or Massachusetts or any other BLUE state, so don't think it's particular to TX.

Thank you for an excellent post and for that phrase in particular, which both rings true and made me laugh for a few minutes straight.
