Oportunities Lost, page 1

I was thinking tonight while watching the ROV feeds for a bit just what a marvelous oportunity has been lost here. Even in it's current state, cracked, dead, poluted, and poisoned, the ocean floor under the Deepwater site is a marvelous thing to look at. It is truly an alien world of wonder, now left as dead as Mars or even our own moon.

How sad and pathetic it is that it took a catastrophic SNAFU and potentially global life altering event to provide live feeds of the deep ocean to people on the internet 24/7. Just imagine what marvels we could be looking at right now! We've all seen the Nat Geo and Blue Planet programs which show footage taken a mile down, but that is edited and fleeting. How awesome would it have been to have sent these little ROVs down with their bright lights and live feeds and provide people all over the globe the chance to be watching at 1 AM on a sleepless night when an Anglerfish or Flashlight fish decided to check out the camera? You'd feel like you were Jacque Cousteau and had just been the first person in the world to see that particular creature swim by to see what the contraption was in his neighborhood.

Instead we get this: www.bp.com...
The emotional equivalent to turning on the light in your kitchen and seeing nothing but roaches and mouse turds.

What a sad, sad loss of an oportunity this is.
