LOL, you beat me back to my own thread.

I noticed that I should clarify a bit.

By respect, I do not mean honor. I mean, understand, and believe what you understand. Never underestimate.

Also, please be very deliberate in recognizing the difference between the Chinese government and the Chinese people, and the Taiwanese, as well. Taiwan feels independent, behaves in a self-governing manner, and the Chinese do not like that kind of strength and confidence. So the Taiwanese are really much like early American citizens, under the shadow of a greater power, but holding their own.

Of course, this is only an illusion China finds it useful to let lie for a while. But Taiwan is de facto a property of China, although quite different in mentality. This is why, IMO, a lot of Taiwanese emigrate and thrive in the US. They have a lot in common with some of us, and in this climate, they can try.

The only strength we (China's target) have is in identifying and understanding their thinking and motives more and more, which is difficult, since we can hardly conceive a society without religion and equality and individual accomplishment.

It takes a lot to peel all that away and then to understand what we observe about them.

Please post a link to your thread here, Homedawg? It is a worthy update on this topic, and hey, way to watch.

Again, for clarification, the actual society contains religion, individual accomplishment, and equality, but those are not what the nation holds as inalienable, and not what it was founded upon.

So the people and the government, not legally recognizing these needs and the right to pursue them, are at odds.

This makes the Chinese people (the average ones) our allies. We both are considered enemies in some sense by the government there.

In the US, we now can relate to this feeling, and more and more of this reality, sadly enough.

What a surprise, free market trade policies have lead to the rise of communist China.

That is because free market economics is communism. Both ideologies put all the control into the hands of economics, rather than representative government, and everyone becomes a slave, except for a few at the top.

When are people going to wake up to the reality? After they literally are bound with shackles?

In relation to the oPs comment about the Chinese Culture being older than ours, where do you think Australians come from?
The majority who founded Australia were caucasian Europeans ....how old do you guess that culture is?

Take a guess.

All the propaganda about Australia having no culture makes me angry.

We are a culmination of Anglo Saxon/celtic/norman civilisation who travelled approx 12,000 miles across the globe and settled here.

Something the Chinese and Japanese were not capable of in 1788.....mate.

Now we are being betrayed by traitors who line their souls(sic) with gold , whilst Australians see their nation "sold out like "spongecakes, just another dying race" ...we are the dead.

Whoa there, Southern Hemispherian! I love Australia, and am merely calling attention to the fact that many Americans are conditioned by the media to think of the Chinese as those folks who built our railroads, invented chow mein, and do laundry. Or in terms of Chinese culture we enjoy here in the States, in short, a US-centric view.

In doing so, we are not considering them worth recognizing as a threat, or we arrogantly assume we are intrinsically "better" than them, because we believe their early arrival in this country was simply to be our servants.

No one is knocking other cultures. I work at a restaurant that celebrates Australia, and has replicas of Aboriginal artifacts all over it. But Australia, I am certain, is not a threat to the US.

China is. And we need to understand it more instead of reacting with our typical conditioned responses. We must recognize them and form our own, through educating ourselves about this culture, and not believing we know them, or their motivations, or how history has responded to China's government. It would be difficult under the best circumstances, and without a concerted effort, one will not learn very much about China except through propaganda in our Western media, here in the US. Witness one Rupert T. Murdoch, killer of truth and exploiter of all things.

In short, why they feel the way they do. Very helpful and informative, believe me.

this is what really scares me about china

not only are they extremely clever and with a tonne of capital behind them, but they also seem to be playing the long patient tactical game. Its also hard to believe they have the good of humanity driving them forward!

In the end i strongly suspect that come 50 years time china will have the taken the world over without firing a single bullet, purely by buying enough of it out from underneath everybody at a time when everyone else is in dire need of cash (except for the arabs et al, but we wont mention them). I do hope im wrong though!

Part of the reason Hitler went to war was for "lebesraum" so his Reich could expand and prosper. I swear I read a leaked document from China circa 2003 or 2004 outlining their need for increasing their living space. In fact, they even said they had to be careful on how they phrased it or it'd be likened to Hitler's desire for more living space aka "lebensraum".

But I mean it's only common sense. I don't know if the article linked in the OP is true, but here you have an ever growing society with enough funds to buy land which is desperately needed.

Yes.

It is not about socialism, ideology, or politics, since this is only common sense.

No one is immune from progress. It bears watching.

I'm not worried and I'll tell you why.

Imagine we were buying up land in China. Do you really think they'd let us encroach on their sovereignty?

Nice thread, interesting topic, but a non-event in my humble opinion.

They have a 1 child policy which is draconian,

And yet, people worry that there is too many of them, to the point that they have to spread themselves out in the world, buy up farms in other countries.....

Imagine if they never had the birth rate rule, and there was many, many more of them

Hopefully, whatever farmland they purchase, they will keep using it for food, or medicine (ginseng, etc).

The problems we are having with China today are one of the reasons why i think the powers to be are...well...really stupid.

They didn't see the internet coming??? that is stupid. Then there is China,

White people made a game where they could continue to control the masses who play with them because they know the rules better than anyone and they have the most experience playing the financial game.

what they were too stupid to see coming was...HOW GOOD THE CHINESE ARE AT PLAYING GAMES!!!

It was inevitable. And if our leaders had any friggen brains they would have seen it coming.

Good job fat white boy.

Many are concerned about China ,and no one who was in or examined the Korean War would ever underestimate them.
They have a very powerful army, and their technology in military terms is ever improving.

But its a bit like pre WW2 some warned about Germany, whilst others armed them, financed them, attended their Political dinner parties.

The truth is some are profiting hugely by helping the Chinese become more and more powerful.

But the people like the OP who are trying to warn us , is up against apathy , just as Churchill was before WW2.

If I was Chinese now I would say this world is a very promising place fo me, if I was not Chinese I would say ..the world is going to change, and Iam not sure Iam going to enjoy it.

Even then people will shuffle to the bread line and thank their betters they are fed

We once hunted and gathered for ourselves and our own...but then came the collective, and then came the chief, then came the knowledge, then came the treachery, then came the dependance on the traitors, then came Free Trade.

Won't matter, Saudi Arabia's inability to raise oil output makes it clear that their production is in decline.

Just as China's demand for oil is rising, world oil production is entering permanent decline.

This is a complete game changer.

Shipping goods around the world from cheap labor to higher cost labor centers is about to become too expensive to be economically feasible.

Thanks for that clarification, Cloud. Nice to know that there are measures in place to protect the original ownership of the land, truly the most valuable resource of all, along with the water.

China's huge population, the one-child policy, and lack of expansion room can lead to only one thing, and that's a gradual spread.

gradual spread, one child policy. first of all, a gradual spead of taking buying up land, FOR WHAT, MORE PEOPLE? Second, one child policy reduces population NOT increases it. It seems to me china is reducing it's populace and buying up mass amounts of land. HELLO, one child policy, this reduces the population by 50% every generation. Have you been to the wizzard of oz, straw man?

Here are some more recent items that made the news in those areas:

Brazil refused to sell. Farmers there are receiving credit for their crops from China, kind of an advance purchase deal, which the government dislikes. Why? The economy is becoming too dependent on Chinese money alone. That equals control. Check.

www.nytimes.com...

Argentina also refused to sell and both countries are limiting the sale of their most productive lands to foreigners. Pretty smart of them. One official outright called Chinese efforts to purchase the vast tracts they seek out "a land grab."

This one is older, concerning Africa. Interestingly, the same phrase resurfaces: "land grab."

Since China also insists on shipping in its own peasants (probably bachelors who cannot find a wife due to the one-child-created gender bias) to work the farms they buy, many locals lose work in these purchases.

If, for some reason, China can no longer pay these peasants, be assured they will not simply give the land back to the country where it is located.

By owning it, they can weaken the host country simply by keeping it fallow.

Or they could lease the country its own farmlands back again, ensuring a tidy income.

It is an asset and advantage. China never does anything without a purpose, and they are efficient and powerful at surviving and dominating. Just ask their neighbors.

We may be a strong and innovative nation here in the US, a chess player on the world stage, but China has played for thousands of years. They are masters, and bear watching.

Let China buy up all the land that's for sale.

If they can afford the Property Taxes, we benefit.

The millions of subprime homes packaged by Wallstreet and sold were bought by Deutch Bank.

Let them sit on them and pay the Property Taxes.

Who cares. It's not like you have a job and can buy them. The added revenue is paying retired teachers, retired military, retired everyone's.......retirement checks.

Ain't Socialism without a Nation Swell?
