S & F for your effort but as you can see ATS has become over run with neocons and naysayers. And besides, misery loves company.

This moring I watched Carol King on Morning Joe on MSNBC. She said she supports the President and we all should. I agree. (although I feel that the response to Gulf Oil Crisis took too long, better progress now at least) Anyway to her point. She likened those who criticize the President like a concert goer yelling "You Suck" at a performer on stage. Doesn't really inspire folks to do their best. Perhaps a weak metaphor, but it makes a point.

I still support the man in the spirit of "It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness."

The reality is every single reason (disaster) that you provided as cause for us simple minded American voters to "get behind our president" were all either directly or indirectly caused by our president, and the other politicians like him.

Think about it.

how about instead of us getting behind an unqualified thug from he gets behind us. we are doomed being led by a man who hasn't met a payroll, balanced a budget, nor believes in the private sector. listen to the blago tapes and you will get sick that this guy and his ilk are in the WH.

Also aren't we supposed to vet the cabinet of the "most ethical" administration? Oh yeah, we can't they're all czars.

I agree, for a puppet, Barack Obama is trying as hard as he can.

He's fighting a uphill battle, and after reading "Dreams of My Father" he's not all bad.

How many of you bashing President Obama have read this book cover to cover - I'm guessing NONE OF YOU.

The guy is very intellegent and well written.

The last two presidents that "went against the grain" (TPTB) were Lincoln and Kennedy, and we know what happened to them.

Very intellegent and asute post. You should be given a thousand stars.

The biggest threat to the USA is not the individual disasters or the sum of the disasters.

- The biggest threat is that the USA is being Divided and Conquered, and the disaster set is the vehicle by which it is being done.

- The country is becoming ever more polarized by right wing and left wing extremists.

- This goes beyond Republican and Democratic parties

United we stand divided we fall....................we American's need to unite not separate, that is what TPTB want.

Actually, there is some very credible evidence which suggests that Obama did not write Dreams From My Father, but it was actually ghost-written by home-grown terrorist Bill Ayers.

Tuggin' the party line huh?

Look, we're not pissed because we thought he was going to pay our mortgage, and we're not pissed because we wanted someone else to be elected. On the other hand, we're more than just a little miffed that the American people make their opinions, thoughts and feeling quite apparent at every turn, only to have the people we elected to represent those opinions, thoughts and feelings, turn around and do the opposite. This includes the President.

We want a president who only makes promises that he's intending to, and capable of, keeping. We want representatives who will listen to what the majority of their constituents want, especially on hot topics like corporate bailouts and health care, and take that stance back to Washington and represent us, regardless of what they personally have to gain or lose, or what they think is best for us.

What the majority of the country wants to be done, should be done. Be it the right thing or not, it's how we're supposed to run this country. If we're a nation of idiots, so be it.

The title of this thread calls for The People to get behind the President. I'll just restate my opinion that we'd all get behind the President, as soon as the President get's behind us. Same goes for Congress. Same goes for state Governors. Even our Mayors. Right down to every City Councilman.

There were many that warned you people about Obama. I joined Rush Limbaugh in "hoping Obama fails". We saw what was coming, and the signs were there. This should be no surprise to anyone.

Throwing support behind this former community organizer would only encourage him. The last thing we need is a socialist with a mandate.

Instead of encouraging this we should be calling for his impeachment.

I think we'd be naive if we thought anything would be different had your boy Limbaugh had his way. The details would probably be spun in a different direction, but we'd be having the same conversation.

McCain... Palin... Seriously? Did you really suggest things would be better than they are with those two running things?

Pres. Obama - "So, let me be clear: Seafood from the Gulf … is safe to eat,”

Spkr. Nancy Pelosi - "We have to pass the bill to see what's in it".

VP Biden - "This is a big effin deal".

Get behind him? First he has to lead before I can follow. Otherwise I'm backing up.

You know what all of these issues have in common OP?

They were all a result of incompetence and malfeasance in government. You cannot and will not convince me that foxes guarding the hen house is the best policy for America.

Most of these so-called issues are con jobs specifically to make the fictional president seem important. The reason most of these smoke and mirrors exist is to cultivate your kind of ignorance. Dependency on criminals in a fraudulent de facto government by perpetual desperate need. The USA is a municipal corporation with no authority outside of DC and the territories. It's a fraud. People need to abandon the old false government that was institutionalized in 1871 and support the new restored united States of America now in existence via the Restore America Plan. These are the people that have now recovered 30 tons of gold fraudulently taken from the country and now returned by law. These are the people with military backing.

You asked:
What the hell do you expect in this kind of situation?

I reply:

The truth. Very simple. I just want the truth and I will not support nor put my life on the line for someone who is incapable of being truthful. He has not only lied, but has been very devious about many things. The solution to many of the things you pointed out would be for him to simply approach them with truth and common sense. This applies to any president. Im not saying spill his guts about things that must be secret, but dont say one thing and do another. Dont lie so blatantly to my face about what I can plainly see. If he has no intention of doing certain things, then dont say he will ( EG bringing troops home). Stop blaming everyone for everything and take some responsibility.. be truthful with himself.

Nothing major. He is human. He will have failures. I dont think any reasonal human being expects miracles with so many things going on at once.. but when he adds lying and deception... no one can stand behind him unless they are a fool.

Thanks for ALL of the responses - I wanted to wait a couple of days to get an idea of how people felt.

Certainly a very divisive subject as can be seen by the responses.

It looks as though the group responses reduce down to:

A) Shut down the US economic, energy, military, political borders and interests and so forth immediately - withdraw on all fronts entirely and allow the US to be in effect a self sustaining country - no dependence upon the rest of the world but complete independence.
But to have the ability to defend themselves and protect their own internal interests as and when they need to.

It could be (and has been) argued though that a preemptive defense is acceptable because the ends justified the means - but this is exactly what has gotten US and many other historical empires into the problems we see today.

B) It is what it is, we are simply too deeply embroiled in other countries economically and militarily, politically and energy wise. Right now we have to accept the lesser of two evils and rally behind the country and POTUS (because not to is an even worse outcome in the long run) and begin to extricate ourselves over time, leading ultimately to a measured degree of independence. A type of creative deconstruction over time.

I believe most people want the same thing - they don't want military, energy, political or economic empire building in their name, especially that which is driven by greed and profit.

It could be argued that the US undertakes empire building in order to keep its population in the manner to which is has become accustomed and extraction will lead to public revolt (for example Greek Austerity measures resulting in rioting and bloodshed)

The question is what is the best route to get there?

The people get the government they deserve, non? - that's a hard lesson to accept.

My position is nearer B) - although, I am not going to fight this position as if my very life depended upon it though.

I would also do two other things:

1) Separate Politics/Governance from Economy

2) Elect a new congress (of the people) and ensure that:

2.1) Corruption and cronyism etc within government was met with the death sentence.
(A harsh measure I know, but one that would most likely go the furthest towards ensuring that corruption and cronyism was minimal - after all some 44% of congress are indeed multi-millionaires and that is without declaration of property wealth - the fish stinks from the head on down).

Maybe I am an idealist, but in my dreams, so could a nation be reborn and maybe this is what the US is going through right now - a difficult rebirth.

Thanks

Bravo

I do support this country. That's why I can't support this president. He's destroying our economy, spending us into oblivion, ruining relations with many of our key allies and proposing and/or passing more taxes and regulations that restrict the liberties of our citizens. To top it off, just this week, his administration also announced plans to sue Arizona for attempting to protect its people by enforcing border control.

Thanks, but no thanks. I don't know who I'll vote for in 2012, but I can guarantee you it will not be Barack Obama.

You have my vote.

Now fact bit: husband needed "ortho sole pads" to correct his gait.

cost billed to BCBS: 600.00 (SIX HUNDRED AMERICAN DOLLARS)

This is robbery.

My blood pressure pills

Cost to manufacture: about .50 a pill
Cost to public: 150. (ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY AMERICAN DOLLARS)

Now come on people, we need to demand these pharma companies stop robbing us blind with these escalated prices.

Fact: Had a friend (single woman) that was a sales rep for Pfizer - on her salary she was able to buy a home in "The Canyon" in California for a little over 1m (ten years ago).

This is what is allowed to happen when the government interests lie with the corporations - essentially the corporations own our government not the people.

Not until he supplies every American a jar of Vaseline, seriously he is taking America down a path that majority of the US citizens don’t want to go. Here are a few examples,
Crack down on immigration, not bash a state trying to resolve its immigration issues especially after the government says it can’t control the border in that state.
Carbon tax? Crap runs downhill, its the middle and lower class of America that has to pay extremely high utility bills from this tax he is passing.
Healthcare? Take a good look at this; this healthcare bill is going to cost a fortune.
Financial crisis? Let business fail, like it was stated earlier. Every company is set to fail eventually. Let it happen. Smaller companies grow in their place. its business evolution. Here is a thought, How about when a company closes down and moves out of country, we levy and tax the hell on their products. And Unions are a big issue on a lot of this.
It’s time the US be a bit more open, he talks of it, but the BP oil spill is proving otherwise.

A president is supposed to be a man above men, a leader for his people. One that is supposed to stand up for the Citizens of his country. A person that takes his people into consideration before captialism. I see none of that in this man, a president? No, he is just another bought politician in our never ending government of corruption. I refuse to stand up for this man. He should stand up for us.
When a president finally gets elected that does stand up for the people of his country, then I will stand up for him.
