Afghan refugee to hang ten with Abbott

www.abc.net.au

A former Afghan refugee will use a surfing lesson with Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott to highlight the plight of asylum seekers.

Mr Abbott offered a personal surfing lesson to the highest bidder of a charity auction at last night's Press Gallery Mid-Winter Ball.

The activist group GetUp raised more than $16,000 to win the bid and give former refugee Riz Wakil the chance to share his story with Mr Abbott.

Mr Wakil says he will tell Mr Abbott of the hardships he suffered while ...

hahaha - Get Up! are awesome. You'll have to excuse my bias, but what are your thoughts?

For those who don't know, Tony Abbott is our opposition leader and is basically a redneck, homophobic, sexist, bible-thumping, climate change-denying, anti-abortion, pro-big business, anti-mining tax, anti-refugee, xenophobic extension of our previous prime-minister John Howard without the pragmatism.

Get Up! is an activist website where you can sign petitions etc at the click of a mouse (I recommend it, and I'm sure you yanks and poms have got something equivalent to it).

And they've set him up
- awesome! - He now has to take an Afghani refugee surfing, and the refugee is gonna murk him over his archaic policy.
its gonna be great!

Just some slightly related videos.

Satire: Clarke & Dawe - funny.

I don't have a problem with most of those things, except the bible thumping and homophobia and sexism. I do have a problem with censorship of the net and fines for swearing, both Labour initiatives.

I signed up for Getup a while ago. But eventually I traced their organisation back to a foundation owned by the Rockefellers, and discovered it was partially funded by the Lowy Institute.

I don't want to hear about some refugee's cry story because thanks to policies of the current government they'll be living better than we will soon. This mining tax and massive housing bubble (soon to pop) is going to drive this country into a ditch.

And much of the Western world is going down that rout. I don't want to see people from half the countries in the world just decide to pack up and move over here by the millions because they messed up their own countries. We can't afford it.

And if you think I'm exaggerating or joking you just wait and see. Everyone wants into Australia and NZ. And if we let them in our way of life will be destroyed.

And you don't think Abbott being a religious conservative supports these aswell? They're both as bad as eachother (well the LNP is worse
), that's why I vote Greens.

I hope you'll excuse my skepticism of this claim until I see some actual proof. To my knowledge GetUp! is independent and survives from donations made by the public (some able to be more generous than others no doubt) - But all you have to do is look at their campaigns to know that your insinuation that "OmG!!1! tehy r s0 pArt of teh Nw0!! I cant B-leev h0w u guyz dident no taht!" is totally bunk - and pure disinformation.

So in effect you're xenophobic and have little insight into how western nations imperialistic foreign policy has created these situations that people flee in the first place.

Maybe the asylum seeker thought he was going to be surfed out to sea to a nother country? KevinRudd is giving the asylum seekers first class treatment... What about the homeless people in Australia? Kevin07 also enjoyed sleeping with the Chinese Goverment.

We ALL know that Labour policies have been tested AND FAILED! Thanks to our PrimeTourist, Kevin07.

I voted AND will continue to vote for the One Nation Party.

Better than a vote for the LNP - and actually, what you suggest is not the case (it is only if you tick one box) the benefit of our preferential voting system is that I can do the following.

Vote 1 Greens
Vote 2 Socialist Alliance
Vote 3 Communist Alliance
Vote 4 Socialist Equality Party
Vote 5 Australian Democrats
Vote 6 Australian Sex Party
Vote 7 Carers Alliance
Vote 8 Citzens Electoral Council
Vote 9 Senator On-Line
etc
etc
Vote 18 Liberal Party of Australia
Vote 19 National Party of Australia
Vote 20 Shooters & Fishers Party
Vote 21 One-Nation

The end.

With this method of voting I control my preferences - canceling out what you suggest about a vote for Greens is a vote for labor (which is only the case if you tick 1 box) and if you cant put numbers in 21 boxes - you prolly shouldn't be voting)

Make sense?

I have to say you're fairly typical of people who identify themselves as progressives. You use a heaping of ad hominem and stereotype attacks and generally act fairly juvenile and are even less tolerant than the people you oppose.

I really find it very rude and petty.

And as I mentioned I signed up to Getup!. I've seen their campaigns. And your assertion that Getup isn't partially foundation funded which you conveyed using l33t speak, isn't really what ATS is about. We're here to deny ignorance, not engage in it. Grow up.

Once I got something from them urging me to go to 350.org, which is funded by Sustainable Markets Foundation. Which was set up by a grant by Rockefeller

Rockefeller

I can't find anything right now to do with the Lowy Institute but I've noticed a few times that the (many) emails I receive from Getup are quite similar to policy being pushed by Lowy and the Israeli Institute.

Frank Lowy is one of the richest men in Australia. He has worked for the reserve bank, and was involved in Westfield during it's failed acquisition of parts of the WTC and became much richer as a result of that.

As you can see from this discussion;

7:30 report

There have been long running accusations towards, and an investigation into Getup. Many think it is an organisation set up by the Labor party to use as a front, and skirt around laws regarding advertising and funding from private sources.

I don't think that is entirely true. Personally, because of the similarities I've noticed between some Getup content and some Lowly institute content, I think that this is an organisation that is trying to influence policy and politics and is generally against the government (either party) and it's agenda is dictated by globalist think tanks.

So in effect you're xenophobic and have little insight into how western nations imperialistic foreign policy has created these situations that people flee in the first place.

No. And there you go with name calling again. And very broad general assumption. I'm well aware of the living conditions in other countries. But I'm also well aware I'm an aboriginal and people here are just living just as bad. And we have problems here that need to be solved.

My responsibility is as a Custodian to the land. And I oppose any more human settlement regardless of race or origin. The population level doesn't need to go drastically higher. It will negatively impact living standards here in Australia.

And given that the USA and much of Europe are in deep financial trouble and Australia is their number 1 destination, I don't want millions of them here any more than I want people from anywhere else.

Especially when the next great war starts.

And you can disregard what I've said about the situation overseas and here getting much worse. But I stand by it and it's going to happen whether you stick your head in the sand or not.

Luckily you have been born at a time when Australia has one of the greatest economic minds ever to walk the face of the Earth and his work is truly ground breaking.

Dr Steven Keen

Although he has been to parliament many times, his work has been disregarded.

And if you can read and comprehend his work, you will know that between the housing situation and this fallout from this mining tax and our ballooning debt problem, when the USA starts to default in the next few years, the situation here is going to become very dire indeed.

I am not jumping on a bandwagon. I am not engaging in political rhetoric. I am giving you a warning about this, take it or leave it. Things are going to get bad.

She said that Aboriginals and should receive the same treatment as everyone else. Some took that as a racist attack. Personally I would really like it if aboriginals could have the same treatment, and payments and living standards as everyone else.

It would be much better than the Status Quo.

What she spoke of was "equality" and somehow the mostly liberal Australian media spun that into a whole lot more than it was.

One Nation was a threat to the major parties and they did everything they could to discredit them. Which I found appalling.

But it is still a much better situation here than in the US. They can't even get a third party, let alone have so many choices as we do.

Firstly, I will apologise for coming across rude.

I can't find anything right now to do with the Lowy Institute but I've noticed a few times that the (many) emails I receive from Getup are quite similar to policy being pushed by Lowy and the Israeli Institute.

How can you readGetUp! Campaigns and attribute anything negative to it? You are demonising it for its negligible relation to 350.org (a climate change awareness and environmental organisation) that got a one-off $100,000 chump change donation from a specifically Philanthropic fund set up by one of the richest families in the world. Excuse me if I came across as condescending because of my failure to see a single email about climate-change awareness organization that received some money - to be a sign that GetUp isn't worthwhile.

There is no such thing as the Israeli Institute as far as I can find, unless you are talking about AIJAC - which appears to me to have nothing to do with anything besides the propogation of Zionism. And as for the Lowy Institute - the stuff they talk about, is the stuff everyone talks about - so I am afraid that I am going to suggest you are mistaken about GetUp being an extension of it.

For one!! And this is important - the impact it has on policy is user-generated - and as far as its agenda, hmmm lets take a look-see:

Counter The Polluter Lobby, Truth about Asylum Seekers, Tangible results from Copenhagen, Coal Pollution, Human Rights Act (Australian Bill of Rights), Indigenous Communities, Grass Roots Climate Change Action, Political Donations (no corporate/third party interests and all large scale political donations), No internet censorship, No Funding for Gunns pulp mill, More climate change stuff, and more climate change stuff, More anti Internet Censorship, More about Human Rights, Renewable Energy Economy, Save the Murray Darling Basin, Paid Maternity leave, Humane treatment of asylum seekers, Consultative approach to indigenous communities, Alternative fuels to oil, More about alternative fuels to oil, More about climate change, Equal Pay For Women, telling politician to listen to the public, more for indigenous peoples than a word "sorry", Keeping Politicians honest, No Pulp Mill, End sex discrimination, Anti Draconian Terror laws, Improving indigenous life expectancy, and more on climate change.

So basically you are suggesting this is part of the NWO agenda because some things coincide The Millennium Goals and action on Climate Change?

Right

Moving on, I agree Aboriginal people have suffered as a result of colonization - and need more assistance and say in the way the country operates - that does not negate the fact that anyone coming into this country without correct papers should not be treated as an animal.

And I 100% agree that population levels need to come down.

VIDEO: Fred Pearce - The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Fred Pearce, the author of the new book "The Coming Population Crash and Our Planet's Surprising Future," talked to Jon Stewart last night about his surprisingly optimistic view of the Earth's future. He explained that there has been a huge population decrease in the past generation: women today have half as many children as they did a generation ago. This phenomenon is happening all over the world, Pearce said, not just in developing countries. And this self-made population control is very good for our planet and for our species.

In the book, Pearce looks at the history of environmentalism and population control, and shows that while in the past countries like China have enforced state-run population control, now people are doing it on their own. Why is this good for our society? "If we have an older society, we'll have a wiser society," Pearce suggested. The 20th century, he said, was a "teenage century," but the 21st will be much more mature. "By 2040, we should have a stable population," he said.
VIDEO: Fred Pearce - The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

And after 2040 it is most likley to decline

And I have been aware of Steve Keen for a while, even though he lost that bet recently - I agree that he is correct, and others will be eating their words in the not to distant future.

So yeah.

ghostsoldier. What did Pauline Hanson say that made her a racist?

Perhaps I may have been hasty with a label - and upon a little research I think I may have been wrong - though I must admit I was young at the height of her career - and never really researched it until now. I disagree with he fears of Asians (we do live in the Asian Pacific yaknow) - but I do agree that cultures and races should mix - they shouldn't just assimilate into "White Australian Life-Style" what ever that is.

And. How is having a few million asylum seekers into Australia is a good thing?

I will direct you to this Australia & Asylum Seekers: Myths & Facts - bear in mind it is well sourced. So how do you respond to that?

And I am sure that ghostsoldier was born in China, or a nother Asian country.

Incorrectomundo my friend - I am regrettably (
) caucasian.

What she spoke of was "equality" and somehow the mostly liberal Australian media spun that into a whole lot more than it was.

I agree - but its a very involved problem that can't be solved with a band-aid - and reversing aid would be detrimental, becoming more consultative and creating opportunities is way better than throwing money at a problem.

One Nation was a threat to the major parties and they did everything they could to discredit them. Which I found appalling.

After some reading, this does sound like what happened - and I think I may have been misinformed about One-Nation before I spoke - but I would need to take a more detailed look at their actual proposed policies are before voting for them.

But it is still a much better situation here than in the US. They can't even get a third party, let alone have so many choices as we do.

They have more than we do, just greater voter apathy and their voting system sucks.

Its more in the subcontext and tone he takes when talking on issues of immigration and asylum seekers - if you cant see that, then I'm sorry I cant help you.

And I said I was biased against the LNP because they have progressively gotten more and more right-wing.

And how you vote is your choice, but just ticking one box contains alot of wasted potential.

Its strange almost pathetic, how intelligent human beings , cant admit that they have been sold out and betrayed by their own kin.
Multi culturism is all about MONEY and Future MONEY , that the TRAITORS will collect, anyone who denies this is a FOOL .
MILLIONS DIED to protect, but they are desecrated by the TRAITORS because MONEY is to be gained.
WE ALL HAVE BEEN SOLD, and the sin is no one has the guts to acknowledge the fact.
Divide and Rule, forget ww one and ww 2 and the vietnam and korean wars, nah Orwell got it wrong .
WE ARE SOLD OUT LIKE SPONGECAKES.
But dont let on.
