New Bill Gives Obama 'Kill Switch' To Shut Down The Internet

www.prisonplanet.com

“The legislation says that companies such as broadband providers, search engines or software firms that the US Government selects “shall immediately comply with any emergency measure or action developed” by the Department of Homeland Security. Anyone failing to comply would be fined,” reports ZDNet’s Declan McCullagh.

The 197-page bill (PDF) is entitled Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act, or PCNAA.

Yes, I know this link is prisonplanet.com, and some might feel it is bias, BUT look at the content. Complete government control of the press, and you have to wonder what are they planning to do that the population can not be told in advance... I always thought the the internet was already filtered, but this is over the top.

News an information will still find a way to reach others if people are dedicated.

Of course, the internet makes it almost instantaneous. People can unite under a cause and get many supporters almost overnight. People an organize demonstrations to protest something. People can leak information to the world, with video or scanned documents and photographs.

If this was all taken away, news would travel slowly, depending on the mode of travel. We could still spread information and organize, by word of mouth or even by someone constructing their own printing press.

People managed during the civil war, when the only method was word of mouth and freshly rested horses to carry the information to the nearest rendezvous point.

People find ingenious ways of passing information. Maybe we will see a resergence in using birds to carry messages.

Anyway, we don't NEED to chat online, to use social networking sites, to play little game apps. All of that we don't need, but we do enjoy. We could surely find ways to entertain ourselves once more, without the internet.

Before the internet, people meet face to face, introduced people to their friends, etc. People still managed to hook up, date, even get married.

People shared funny home movies with friends, or maybe got them onto America's funniest home videos. Youtube makes everyone get a few minutes of fan, but we don't actually need it.

A lot of what the internet does isn't really needed.

I would miss however, how the internet can be used to spread the truth that others may not want us to know. People can leak out information, or use it to gather people together for some common cause.

That is what they would want to shut it down for.

As long as people only care about celebrity gossip, watching youtube, dating and playing games, TPTB have nothing to fear. I think most people use the internet for entertainment. Most people are blind to the real issues that are going on in the world. You and I are not "most people" or we wouldn't be here. Some are starting to wake up, and that has "them" worried.

Thankfully, I think most of the people who are awake are also educated enough to be able to find solutions if they ever do pull the plug.
We'll make our own printing press, and deliver the news by word of mouth on horseback, if we have to!

The Internet can't be killed. It was conceived as a means of military/govt communication to withstand societal breakdown and full-on nuclear Armageddon.

As long as there are servers, telephone connections, satellites and international borders...the internet lives.

This is in preparation for a major event that is about to hit. They would not introduce this bill too far in advance as there may be a backlash and it might be reversed. I am of the opinion that we are about to see one of the following:

nuclear attack on the USA.
Major volcano eruption (Yellowstone).
Martial Law and evacuation of millions from Gulf States.
Total Economic collapse.
Collapse of the USA as a nation through natural disaster.

If any of these happened they would want to control the information in an attempt to retain some form of control. If the people are able to communicate then there can be a a resistance movement. Imagine if the internet had existed during the civil war! There are far more civilians than military, police and government workers. So with the Internet rebels could defeat the government by warning people were to go and where not to go. If there was a problem area people could be directed there to engage enemy forces (Obama)

I totally agree, but I've watched certain bills like this one that pertain to the 2012 psyops - namely the paid h1n1 sick leave bill which is intended to get people to comply with quarantine - languish for a long time. (And it still hasn't passed yet, but don't worry, it will). Just remember, their timetable is a lot slower than ours.

It's all part of the 2012 psyops. Cut the Internet when all the s is hitting the fan, mid 2012. But not until it's all about to go down, because they need the internet to unite people behind their propaganda.

Yes, people CAN find other ways of spreading information if need be, but we do Need the internet. The internet is vital in today's world. It's not the same world as yesteryear thanks to the internet. The Net gives us sources of information not available any other way. It helps us spread that same information faster and better than we did before. Much business is conducted over the Net.

This is just another Government tactic to stop the flow of free thought and spreading of information. If they for example cannot stop Wikileaks, they simply shut down the internet providers.

I say we need global satellite internet companies. ( or something similar) A form of internet our local USA government cannot stop regulate or control.

I hope they're better than the sattelite ISP I got. They are horrible at throughput, its way overpriced, and has daily restrictions. Unfortunately it is the ONLY internet option besides dialup.
They have had the authority to shut down the net for a while now, but it was a discretionary decisions and was probably convoluted into other recent Executive Orders. The new bill gives direct authority. When the net goes down, we will know the SHTF somewhere. And more than likely it will be 'Al-CIAda hackers' in a cave in Uzbekistan that disabled a DoD communications network using an iPhone

This story is all over the internet in many forms - just search on lieberrman internet bill. It was introduced LAST WEEK by Joe Lieberman and he was lobbying for it yesterday. Haven't heard that Rockefeller co-authored it nor have I heard that the WH approves except in the opinion piece at the start of this thread. Actual sources of actions are important if we are to tie this timing to other current events namely the wikileaks breach and make sense out of who is jumping up and down and why.

Can you imagine what would happen if people couldn't look at internet porn. Then maybe our gov't employees will get some work done. Imagine how productive they would be if they couldn't watch porn all day and night.

From Dusted out of the dust bowl, maybe we now are going to be tarred out of our Gulf Coastlines. A new mass relocation of this Cajin/Creole popluation westwards along the Southern tier of States, into California, might force a big relocation of illegals southerly into Sunny Regions. A couple of years ago, I spoke with one of the SW creoles, who was working a certified welding job, here, and he postulated that there was already serious friction, between the darkly complected creoles, and the illegal migration up from Mexico. A few million more creole/cajins moving west into this strip along our south west border, will really stir the pot. Shades of John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath", set in 2011-2015.

This person has lost the perspective ... it is worse? ... that all the attack is coming over the wire, and over the air way?

GhadZooks !!

...

In the "good old days" before the internet, if someone had an axe to grind he was looking at a way to slit your tires, burn your house, ruin your business, wipe out your family line .. or if less over the top, just come and off you ... maybe put you in the Hosp with a bullet hole, a few knife punctures, or bring lots of friends and start a war or something ...

Unbelievable!! ... three million attacks of electronic signals ... this is a threat?

The Gulf is a threat, .... The Taliban is a threat .... China calling in our debt is a threat ... The huge pile of old bio-weapons in Russia and 6 missing briefcase nukes ... --- is worse by far. (His choice of food could be worse, than a hacked WAN --even a military WAN).

Either it says something about what he knows on cyber security (not much) or it says something about his frame of reference ... which is the most likely case.

````````````````````
What we seem to be seeing is a resurgence of the old Russian Mentality ..
It is alive and well in the Taliban (after the World took China to task, and made the rulers see at least some daylight). ...
It came back worse in Blackwater and the new Disaster Capitalism which is going down too well in too many places!! ... and it is threatening to encroach on the strong hold of it's all time enemy .. the land of the free ...
"THIS IS A TEST! ... CAN WE WALK ALL OVER YOU AND BLOW UP YOUR HOARDED OIL RESOURCES --OR-- RUIN THEM BEYOND RECLAIMING?" ...
THIS IS A TEST! ... IS THE URGE TO BE FREE DEAD UNDER FRENCH FRIES AND SOFT DRINKS ... DOES IT LIE SLEEPING? .. CAN WE TAKE OVER?
THIS IS A TEST!! HOW FAR CAN WE GO AS STRONG ARM THUGS? ... WITH LITTLE ELSE BUT INTIMIDATION AND BAD INTENT (REALLY BAD INTENT)?
Yep, what I see is a mental virus ... spread by fear, fear mongering and a need for Control, Control, Control ... above all control .... This is very, very OLD SCHOOL ... and we need to put a lid on it!!
I hope all the people outside of the BP blackout zone will rise to the occasion and protect their real estate ... there is a micro organism which eats crude, fast.
Have local gov ask for (if necessary demand) hazmat suits for anyone who will be doing anything!!
The CDC should be there by now working on Detox and making a formulation --- to prevent or ameliorate "limited" exposure to Corexit .. but the sooner that chemical stops being used the better.
Also, if you are exposed ... go and have blood and urine samples taken. The people in Alaska had no hard evidence ... they got no settlements.
It may cost something ... ostensibly the CDC should be doing it for free to help rein in the monster currently in charge of this poor (morally bankrupt? -- only if it was on purpose...) corporation.
However, get the tests if you are exposed!! ...
Obama will lose his satin gloves soon enough.
Once you let "the cat out of the bag" you can never put him back in. If the Internet were ever killed or censured the result in the city streets would not be pleasant. You won't have to worry about Tea partiers anymore. You'd have to worry about the sheeple who would voraciously attack the wolves. No one wants to awaken that sleeping giant. TPTB ain't that dumb.
Yeppers, the government cannot shut down the intarwebs. It may have been created here but it is everywhere. The letters FTP come to mind.
Before the intarwebs were created we used bbs direct connect setups.
But if you really need to know how to use the internet when it gets shut down view this it shows how to get around tyranny.
This internet kill switch is a lie and probably a distraction from the real deal.
(Edit) To avoid a double post.
If any of you don't have a cb radio they are fairly cheap at radio shack.
I would suggest getting one, they were the internet of the 60's through the 80's and some still use them. Especially truckers who by the way have a lot of information from across the states.
The internet cannot be shutdown by a single switch and the whole force of the economy would come down upon anyone that tried. This sounds like techno propaganda and even if he could shut it down, it would increase chaos if they were dumb enough to try it. He might as well claim the right to nuke cities to save them from capitalism.
