I am curious about a missing post.

I have just spent the last half an hour searching everything combination of key words etc. looking for a reply I made to either this thread: A quick view of Socialism.... or another thread that contained something very similar to this:

An economics teacher made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class.
--------------------------------------------
That class had insisted that President Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The teacher then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

All failed, to their great surprise, and the teacher told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great,
but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Now I know I replied to it, by offering a whole bunch of alternative motivations - there was no T&C violations - and I can't find my reply anywhere - and I want to know why...

I posted there some time around Feb or March - so I am curious as to whose doing the deleting and why...

Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't find it.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Again, with no T&C violations.

There is no infringement notice in replacement of it - its just gone.

Also, I originally posted my question here, about 30 mins ago - and then that whole thread was deleted (for some reason it has -5 replies) ???

Hi There,

Will have a look and see what I can find.

But, quick answer to the removal of the last thread you referred to, that you have originally posted your question in...I'm picking it was deleted due to that thread being 8 years old and dragged up out of the ether to post your question in.

It has since been stabbed through the heart and sprinkled with holy water to ensure it doesn't crawl from the grave again.

Will get back to you if I turn up anything about the recent vanished post of yours.

Peace.

go to your profile, and on the top click on " posts" it should show every post you ever made, or at least lately.

posts don't just get deleted, there would be a T$C notice at least. so check that out, if it's still not there maybe it was some type of computer error.

- Cool, thankyou.

8 year old threads need love too ya'kno.

IB - Nah, it only goes back to may 1, so I can't get access to any posts I made before then, unless they are in my threads from 5 years ago.

Maybe you put yourself on ignore.
I do it all the time.

It's happened that I have gone back and tried to find a post I had made earlier. Wanted to see if I got any stars or replies or anything.

Several times I looked and couldn't find it.

Usually it was because I didn't remember correctly which thread I had posted in, especially if there were more than one on a similar topic and/or they had similar titles.

If a post of yours was deleted you probably would have gotten a u2u from a mod, or else there would be a notice in place of your post saying you had violated the T&C or something similar but the post itself would not have been removed.

Another way to find a missing post is to go to your public profile and click on "Threads" at the top of the page toward the center. That will give you a list of all the threads you have ever posted in and the date of your post.

Good luck in finding it.

I've looked in "posts" - it doesn't go back far enough
I've looked in "threads" - and that only shows mine
I have tried every combination of keyword, with and without my name
I never got a u2u from anyone
I can't find a notice

Dunno 'bout 8 year old posts...maybe 4 year old posts need a hand to cross the road and a cheap bus-pass, but 8 years, yeah thats worm-food and probably best left in its peaceful rest...

Anyway - I've crashed around in the darkened recesses of the Mod Action Logs and I'm picking up nothing, nadda, not a bean on any Mod Action, deletion or Editting of your post.
I even checked under all the cushions on the Mod Couch and found diddly...well, did find $1.25 in small change, a half-eaten cookie and a rather dubious picture of George Bush shaking hands with a Grey Alien...but no post...

Not sure what the issue is then dude.
As you and others say, normally if a Mod does anything like zap a post it'll leave a lil Mod Tag...or if we go in an edit out something, then it'll leave an Edit-Note identifying we've been there.

Haven't seen a post just *vanish* before without there being a trace of some sort left behind...so I'm as lost as you on where or why...

All I can think of is:
- Some weird coding thing has happened and its been swallowed up into the cyber-verse some place
- Somehow its been removed without there being any trace...or...
- Dude, I know you're completely positive it exists and all, but I'm not seeing any clue as to its mystery disappearance...there is a possibility, no matter how remote, that you may be mistaken? Or posted something like that on a thread on another website other than ATS??

...will keep looking, and maybe an Admin-type Person can wade in and provide some idea here...

Peace.

Thanks for trying...

I know I posted it here (either that or it was some vivid dream that I haven't been able to distinguish from reality) or some sinister force who doesn't appreciate an intelligent alternative to a monetary based reward system deleted the post without following procedure.

A reward for those who care.

ETA:
Perhaps it was ASIS or COINTELPRO - Meh! - I'll be back tomz.

"Communism is the greatest form of direct democracy"...That would make one hilarious bumpersticker...I wish I'd said it first...

Any old post that contains such an aphorism should definitely be preserved for the ages.

I've never understood why we're discouraged from bumping old threads in one breath and told to use the search function before creating another? I don't mean to sound facetious, but what is the problem with bumping an old thread on here, and why is it discouraged? We have a vast amount of information contained in this site, but we can't dig it up and dust it off for a look-see?

Thanks SO - but no its not.

It was something to the effect of:

What about instead of equalizing everyones scores (which isn't communism anyway) they provided alternative rewards for those who contribute greater to society, such as: leadership positions, medals, access to certain events, the accumulative effect may grant entrance into "higher" social circles in the future, more luxuries, more freedom to create their own lesson plans and study alternative theories, other A students could study outside the classroom, one off gifts for every A, community wide recognition, the option for more free time, etc etc etc.

It was something like this, but way better. But yeah, I'm kinda over it, if mods-n-admins have better things to worry about - I just thought it was curious, and was wondering if it might be happening on a wider scale - not saying mods and admins are behind it... but yeah... MEH!

No drama!

And I agree with Twitchy - reusing old threads would save you guys bandwidth(?) and/or server space surely.
