Yeah well I take Edgar Cayce's 2010 earthquake prophecy seriously...
I could care less about a kid's predictions but he's right nonetheless...

Well this wasn't a 9.0+ so, no he wasn't right.

According to the seismologists, these are aftershocks. It's not even on the San Andreas fault line.

Just felt an aftershock. I always expect them to continue, and not stop, but, Thank God, they don't.

Its getting me on my toes haha.

Yeah, I spoke too soon that they were slowing down. Seem to be picking up again.

3.6, 3.6, 2.5 all in under a minute.

And when was the last 9 earthquake?

1.December 26, 2004 Sumatra, Indonesia

2.March 27, 1964 Prince William Sound, Alaska, USA

3.May 22, 1960 Valdivia, Chile

4.November 4, 1952 Kamchatka, USSR

5.August 13, 1868 Arica, Chile

6.January 26, 1700 Cascadia subduction zone, Canada and USA

Yup that's all in recorded history...I'm guessing that they really wouldn't know...

That's amazing... Amazingly unsettling.

Take away a few seconds between these quakes, and you'd have one long shaking event.. geez. Whatever the plate is sliding into is hitting more and more fragments of rock, and shattering it--deep in the ground.

Earth, please calm down. I'll share my White castles with you.

Just minutes before the quake WestCoast posted that his dogs (Quake Watch Thread) went mad - the birds and animals can sense these events and should be observed.

Yeah-- Idea here:

EVERYONE seeing this in Cali, go outside and listen to the ambient noise outside. Anything sound different to you? More dogs barking? Sky flashing (EQ lights), birds going nuts like Vic said? See loads of mice/frogs/snakes/etc all moving in one direction or going crazy?

They can detect big quakes... Its pretty much proven. Someone check the missing pets ads in a newspaper from yesterday.. are there a ton?

The quake was an aftershock of the deadly Easter Sunday magnitude-7.2 quake that shook Baja California and Southern California, said Egill Hauksson, a seismologist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. He said the epicenter of Monday's quake occurred in the same zone of the quake in April.

Thanks very much for the info!

So, if they are saying that this 5.9 downgraded to 5.7 earthquake tonight is an aftershock of the Easter Sunday Baja earthquake...does that mean that all of these other 30+ aftershocks tonight are actually aftershocks of the Baja earthquake too? Or would they be considered to be aftershocks of the aftershock?

Thats what I asked myself. I have my doubts that its an aftershock.
Im not an expert so I really dont know. But what I do know is that the dogs out in the neighborhood were parking too, prior to the 5.7.

Also our cats(3), all went to my grandma's room and went under the bed.

Hi all, jumping in here since this seems to be the happening place, rather than the quake thread.

Like MoorfNZ stated, a few minutes before this quake hit, I had just posted about my dog acting wierd. It went on for about two hours, and he was just staring at me like he heard something that I couldn't...standing in the middle of the the family room barking. He is not a dog that barks for no reason so it made me nervous enough to get on the earthquake lists to see what was up and to make my post. When I let him outside, he ran around the whole yard barking, sniffing at the ground as if he were chasing a squirrel that wasn't there. I have NEVER seen him do this before.

The thing is, I am up in the NW corner of Washington State....a nice, long distance from this quake...and 5.7 is not that big. This is why it worries me. Obviously, the same fault runs all the way up the coast and intersects a couple of others. I think he must have been sensing/hearing whatever it is....telling me that there is a whole h@ll of a lot of energy flowing around down there right now. Both Mt. Hood and Helens have had several quakes in the past 24 hrs...not all too uncommon, but they haven't had that many all in one day for awhile.

I just think that this swarm is a pre-curser. I think the energy is still moving north. I really don't believe this is so much an aftershock but a continued 'shifting', as the map clearly shows HERE
