This is one cranky paranoid congressman.

This is the gentleman's website. etheridge.house.gov...

Seems that he has completely forgotten what most Southern mama's teach their boys.

To be gracious under all circumstances that is.

The completely sad thing derived from the above situation is that these students, for whatever reason...and the reason does not matter much...have taken a active interest in politics to which the powers in American politics responded in a completely negative fashion.

This does harm not only to the students, who will have a very sour taste in their mouths over the whole affair,it harms the face of Western power everywhere.

Everything is connected.

It tarnishes the idealism the United States of America stands for.

Very sad...corrupt from priest to president.

Damn, is that what they call assault these days ?? Though I do agree, it was a douchey thing to do by the congressman.

But do we really know his state of mind ?? Maybe he's gotten a few death threats lately, and all of the sudden a couple of guys ambush him on the streets knowing who he is and asking him questions.

Why would it matter who they are ?? It's not like they asked him if he ever killed a hooker.

Seems to be improper for a Public Servant to have physical contact in that
manner. Those were students , not papparozzi. Then again, maybe those students have questioned him before in an uncouth manner themselves.
I really don't know what to think, but it Appears that he was overreacting.

Wtf "Who are you?" and tries to slap him then grabs him aggressively and tries to give him a hug or something. The Congressman seemed disoriented and disillusioned was he waiting for him to say "I'm with the republican party" to give him a beet down. Owe wait never mind your a student let me give you a hug sorry for the slap. Lady's and Gentleman your tax dollars at hard work.

N.C. Congressman Under Fire for Physical Confrontation With Man in Washington

Another man, not seen on camera, then tells Etheridge, "We're just here for a project."

When the student asks Etheridge to "please let go of me," the congressman then grabs him by the neck.

In a statement Monday, NRCC spokesman Jon Thompson said, "Bob Etheridge has lost it.

"His conduct is unbecoming of a member of Congress. It's bad enough that he's joined Obama's assault on North Carolina jobs, but his physical assault on a college student goes beyond the pale.”

A spokesman for Etheridge did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Mike Flynn, a conservative blogger for biggovernment.com, wrote that the confrontation occurred last week outside a fundraiser headlined by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

The video, which was posted to YouTube by "DCCameraGuy" on June 11, does not reveal the identity of the two men.

Here is an excerpt from the fox story...thanks Manta.

What the hell do you call assault? Etheridge LAID HANDS on a complete stranger, slapped him upside the head, and held him forcibly and against his will.

That, my friend, meets and surpasses every definition of assault, and could easily be construed as battery in any court.

I'll tell you this, straight up: I would have punched the good Congressman in the mouth and stomped his ass into the sidewalk if he had laid hands on me. Etheridge had better think twice about assaulting the citizenry in the future — It might be me. Or somebody worse. In which case the Congressman will be picking his teeth out of his ass from the inside.

LOLOLOL!

Maybe this Congressman can pass a law legalizing assault on Paparrazzi?

The assault was illegal, uncalled for, and ridiculous, but so is the way that we treat our politicians and celebraties. Why not judge these people on their merits in acting/singing/lawmaking, and stop looking under every nook and cranny for dirt?

This was a student and a politician, but what if it was a 16 year old actress and a paparrazzi hiding in her bushes? It would still be illegal, but all of us ATSers would be blaming the covert "photojournalist" and calling them criminals.

If someone ambushed me in the street with a camera, I would be polite for about 45 seconds, then I would perform a free colonscopy on the offender with his own camera, and call it community service!

Doc, what about your heart?

Take it down a notch, don't stress yourself.

J/K, hope you are feeling fine, and yes it was assault, and yes, he should have gotten beaten up, but then again, why is it ok for a group of people to corner you on a street and bombard you with questions? Paparrazzi are very, very good at riding the gray line of the law and basically kidnap a person by obstructing their path and corralling them into a corner, and even though they don't quite touch you, they force you to alter your direction, cover your face, they blind you with lights and flashes, and they make money doing it? Shouldn't that be assault as well?

There is not enough of a story in either direction here to be able to pass any kind of judgment.

Yes, the congressman laid hands on the student.

WE have no idea why either way.

I can sit here and come up with multiple scenarios of things that could have happened to me off-camera that would have caused me to want to hurt a couple of "clever" men.

And nobody is perfect.

For all we know, there was a whole set-up leading to this scene to make him look like a fool.

I'm not going to let something like this decide for me anything about anyone... it's useless to me.

Of course, the media is full of people with three brain cells who prey on people with two brain cells - so let it be a big deal.

Yes that is what is called assault these days, and for many days before this incident happened.

According to Wikki: Assault is often defined to include not only violence, but any intentional physical contact with another person without their consent.

That sounds about right to me. Even spitting on someone (although pretty disgusting) is considered assault in most states.

I disagree that it was a "douchy" thing to do. What it was, was a criminal thing to do. Do you think for one second that if you were to touch a Congressman the way that he touched the student in the video... you would not go to jail? The chances are VERY HIGH that you would be charged as a Terrorist.

Some of the questions posed by the poster I quoted really concern me however. For example:

But do we really know his state of mind ??

Who cares? He is an elected official. I would suggest you run out to the nearest police officer. Put your hands on him the way this CongrASS man did to the student, and then see if the police officer is concerned in any way with your state of mind. Chances are...it is not likely.

Maybe he's gotten a few death threats lately, and all of the sudden a couple of guys ambush him on the streets knowing who he is and asking him questions.

Again... so what? It was BEYOND obvious that these people who "ambushed" him were not in any way a threat. They asked a question about what he supports. No one said WHAT he supported. They asked IF he supported. Last time I checked, asking a public official where they stand on any issue is not considered a threat.

And I'd like to further say, this CongrASS man was not "ambushed". I do not think anyone who is "ambushing" another starts off by asking, "How are you today?" Plus these students had every right to ask him questions, because again, he is an elected public official. He is employed by the people, supposed to be working FOR the people. You better believe that the people have a right to ask him any question about the policies that he supports.

This CongrASS man should consider himself lucky that he ran into some cowardly students. I can assure you, had it been me or anyone like me, that CongrASS man would have been picking his teeth up off the sidewalk.

The police did not pick up this drunk for assault because of his political power. If any regular person had done this they would have been jailed. Ignoring this crime makes every officer who knew about this a criminal.

No doubt this congressman has stepped into a pile of his own crap.

The question I have is why the hell this guy is so rattled over a couple of kids with a camera?

What was said by traitor Pelosi before the meeting on the street with these boys?

I fully understand that most of our leaders are complete fn asshats. I worked for a few and besides a few preachers and maybe one politician they are complete disgraces for leadership.

They always talk behind peoples backs and always seem to have a scorched earth view toward any form of opposition.

That being said Ken Hagin senior was a example of somebody who showed love toward his critics...and a Canadian politician..Tommy Douglas(dead), Grandfather of Keifer Sutherland are two people who are real imo.

Other then that every other politician or preacher I have met are asswipes.

imo...

But my point of view is s prejudiced.

Nevertheless the actions of this politician would be considered criminal by most.

Apparently he is very active in boy scouts...shudder.

With one big difference. Politicians and celebrities BEG FOR our attention, they intentionally PROVOKE our curiosity and our ire, and their careers rise and fall AT OUR DISCRETION.

Celebrities and politicians ARE NOT just like everybody else. They have no privacy, and they do not deserve special consideration for stepping down into the arena with the lions to become part of the spectacle — at that point, they deserve all the jeers and heckles and paparazzi they have knowingly solicited.

Celebrities and politicians DO NOT turn around and assault the man in the street for asking a question: "Do you support Obama's agenda?"

Celebrities and politicians ARE NOT just like everybody else. They surrender their "everyman" jerseys the moment they step into the limelight. And, as Dick Jones said, If you can't stand the heat, you better stay out of the kitchen.

That 'congressman' LOOKS mean there - I mean, he takes Mean White Man to the max. I'd understand if someone wanted to call him a reptilian.

What's with this WHO are you, WHO are YOU, WHO are YOU?

I suspect he's watched some Alex Jones and "The Obama Agenda" ..the word...'agenda' triggered his temper -

but really, why all the anger? Why ALL the anger?

Looked downright GUILTY to me. At the very least guilty of being a mean old white man.

(And I myself am 'whiter' than Julian Assange....)

Take it down a notch, don't stress yourself.

My heart is just fine — what I experienced a couple of weeks ago was a stroke, which is more like a heart attack of the brain. Only problem is, now I can't pronounce the letter "C" and have to use the letter "B" instead. Silly bunt.

But you know what I always say: That which doesn't kill me only makes me stronger. So I figure I'm more than a match for a drunk socialist from North Barolina.
