Red Cross: Gaza blockade illegal

english.aljazeera.net

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has described Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip as a violation of the Geneva Conventions and called on the Israeli government to lift it.

In a statement released on Monday, the organisation called the blockade "collective punishment", a crime under international law. It described Gaza as a territory plagued by frequent power cuts, a ruined economy, and a collapsed health care system.

It looks like the Red Cross is now criticizing Israel. The Red Cross says Gaza has a critical shortage of essential medical supplies.

B'Tselem, an Israeli human rights organisation, released its own report on Monday documenting dire conditions in the Palestinian territories. The group noted that 95 per cent of Gaza's factories have closed, that 98 per cent of residents suffer from blackouts, and that 93 per cent of Gaza's water is polluted.

93 percent of drinking water is polluted....how polluted? Im not sure, but 93 percent is a pretty high number if you ask me. I dont see how Gaza will be able to build, or even advance economically in the near future, until the blockade is lifted.

The Red Cross is also criticizing Hamas, over the captured Israeli soldier from 2006.

More and more stuff seems to be developing in the middle east. I hope nothing terrible comes out of this in the near future,

I could easily see that happening, really soon.

Im suprised the Israeli B'Tselem human rights organization is speaking out against whats happening to Gaza, I would suspect anything Israeli based would be all anti-Gaza. Maybe they will be labeled anti-Israeli or anti-Semetic to.

The United Nations apparently "hates israel", so why not label the Red Cross as anti-semetic.

Just wait till the ACLU goes against them and they call the ACLU anti-semetic! ROFL

LAWL!!!
You are a silly head worried about Gaza and all.
Now who is the Red Cross again, and do you expect anyone to listen to a human rights group?
The Israeli’s will do like the US did to the Indians a hundred years back; I cannot wait to see the Gaza casinos!
Really though, people will cry foul but the actions and aggressions will still take place.
Israel is in a moment of peace with Palestine right now and they would like to keep it that way.
After all it is better for your enemy to die by themselves due to disease or other enhanced natural deaths rather than to be harmed by your Armies rifles.
Israel has a right to defend themselves you know.

Yet another slow response by the red cross.. Must be busy profiting from misery as usual.. or did they run out of disaster areas to sell coffee and donuts in while watching people suffer. Nice of the red cross to pull their heads out of their arses long enough to make a statement..

Been there done that, the 'holocaust' was largely a typhus outbreak in the labor and prison camps according to the Red Cross, but no it isn't the first time the Red Cross and 'Israel' have had thier differences. Interestingly enough though, the Red Cross is thought to be a descendant of the Rosicrucian order and if true, it's kinda odd to see any masonic institution standing up to a zionist ideaology.

Here is a good bit from San Remo Treaty.. Which Israel uses to confirm thei right to blockade.

102. The declaration or establishment of a blockade is prohibited if:

(a) it has the sole purpose of starving the civilian population or denying it other objects essential for its survival; or
