Iranian ships ready to sail to Gaza

www.jpost.com

The Iranian Red Crescent has equipped and loaded two ships with aid, and is waiting for permission from the Iranian Foreign Ministry to set sail for Gaza, AFP reported on Sunday. A third ship is planned for next week.

An Iranian Red Crescent official, Mojtaba Majd, was quoted as saying that over 100,000 Iranians have volunteered to sail on the ships. He said that the problems involved may prevent Iran from sending volunteers, however "the important issue is that the people of Gaza know that more than 100,000 Iranians are ready to come to their help."

Not sure if this particular article has already been discussed, but I thought I'd share.

Ships are stocked loaded and ready to go?

Looks like Iran was serious about sending aid ships to Gaza...I hope some aid gets thru to those poor people. I hope all goes well and Isreal lets them thru without starting WWIII.

100,000 applied to be part of the floatilla. 70 were selected to travel with 2 boats.

The Free Gaza movement also allows volunteers to travel with floatillas periodically.

Either way, I think that the peace-orientated organisations should stay out of this - it is provocation on part of the Iranians. It looks like they are trying to get a reaction, possibly to justify a first strike.

It's a prelude to a suicide mission!

Or 100 000 people willing to stand up against something they believe is wrong (ie the blockade). But sure, it's more likely to be an invasion.

2nd line?

I hope they have plenty of life jackets because they are going to need them. Israel will not play games with Iran I can promise you.

All the two sides (Israel and Iran) need is one incident to start their little turf war.

well you can put your money on the bet
that if there is a sea battle between these
2, then it won't be long before Israeli
planes bomb those Iranian nuclear
facilities and quite possibly Tehran.

boondock's bookie board opens with odds:

Israel damages or sinks Iranian ships:
odds: 1-1

Israel bombs Iran facilities
odds: 2-1

Israel bombs Tehran
odds: 5-1

place your bets gentlemen

May calm heads prevail.. Hope they have a safe voyage.. And to those of you advocating isreal sinking them that would be like an attack on the Red Cross the Red Crescent is the islamic version of red cross and are accorded the same protection under international laws as the red cross.

I thought the betting was a joke until earlier on today, they were actually taking bets on Iran being attacked by Israel, it's on a poster in their Window lol.

Then I read what you have put with your odds lol.

Maybe something is in the air???

Were talking about the red crescent here which is an international institution (the islamic Red Cross), not an army or an invasion fleet. Its a humanitarian organisation

My bet is that Israel will take control over the boat by boarding it. Take it to a Israeli harbor, and than the people on board will be deported back to the countries they belong to. Even Iran.

Israel dont want to hurt the people of Iran. Israel wants to take out their nuclear capabilities. I see that as two different objectives.

IF (and its a big IF) those ships try to break the naval blockade and not
using Rafah (land option) to deliver the aid (which btw, i hardly beleive
it will be 100% aid stuff loaded on those ships) , the ships will be boarded,
some ''red crescent'' guys will be in fact rev.guard commandos, a fight
will ensure then...SHTF.

Thing is, Israel cannot trust ANYONE that on those ships aren't weapons or
weapon components. They will have to board the ships or sink them.
If the ships go to Gaza by sea, the chance to board them is 100%.
If the ships dock in Egypt and are going to use Rafah, Israel have
practicaly 3 options :
1) sink the ships
2)bomb the aid convoy before reaching Rafah (very slim chances)
3)bomb the aid convoy after inside Gaza.

The 4th option (Israel just do nothing and let the aid go in Gaza) is not in
the book for Israel.

Boarding, sinking the ships or bomb the land convoy will trigger war.
Undoubtly.
And from where i stand i simply cannot see the aid (on the ships or on the
land convoy) getting into Gaza...unless Iran accepts Israel to inspect it
and decide what to do with the aid.
And i am asuming this is not an option for Iran.

The chances that this flotilla will be the war trigger are, imo, around 90%.

Lets hope for the other 10% chances that this ain't going to happend.

haha... that a joke?

Israel doesnt want to hurt the people of Iran?

What about Palestine? do they not want to hurt those people?

Iran will be under strict orders, do not allow that boat to be taken.
If any of those Iranians return home alive after being capture and deported by Israel, they will be hung.

Well not according to Israels own propaganda. Israel dont want to hurt anyone.
I will believe them before i believe you.

PS , where do you get the idea that Iran will hang any one of them?

These boats probably won't arrive at Gaza until June 25th. They are just a part of MAJOR event that will climax on Saturday, June 26, 2010.

The most likely outcome is that they'll be seized by the Israelis, just like the others, and the Iranians will bitch and moan, just like they always do.

Surely, even the Iranians must know by now that their war is beyond lost and their efforts doomed to failure one after the other.

These Persians are far dumber than Cambyses.
