Obama pleads for $50 billion in state, local aid

www.msnbc.msn.com
WASHINGTON - President Obama urged reluctant lawmakers Saturday to quickly approve nearly $50 billion in emergency aid to state and local governments, saying the money is needed to avoid "massive layoffs of teachers, police and firefighters" and to support the still-fragile economic recovery.

In a letter to congressional leaders, Obama defended last year's huge economic stimulus package, saying it helped break the economy's freefall, but argued that more spending is urgent and unavoidable. "We must take these emergency measures," he wrote in an appeal aimed primarily at members of hi

They must borrow more, as they have done the last 2 years.
The US is broke. All your money was given to the Bankers and Military.

After spending Trillions to save the rich Bankers you would think a lousy 50Billion would be a non issue to help the American Tax Payers..

How about the Feds reduce taxation & let the States (& People) keep the money to improve local conditions? Isn't that what the 10th Amendment is all about in the first place? Where in the Constitution is the Feds given any authority over local & State concerns with teachers, police & firefighters? These are employees of either the individual State in question or perhaps employed privately (depending on whether a certain school is Public or Private...Public schools are State employees).

In my own (semi-educated (let's face it, no one can ever know everything)) opinion, Obama should just keep his (& Congress') nose out of it altogether. By butting in like this, any Federal Officers involved will be Acting in Breech of Oath & violating the 10th Amendment (concerning States' Rights).

"America should have no part of it" is what Cathy McMorris Rodgers, the U.S. Congresswoman for Spokane and Eastern Washington says about the outrageous demand by the International Money Fund that America send billions overseas to bail out socialist Greece with 50 billion dollars. The IMF demand is being supported by our own Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner. But she says "Americans are suffering from bailout fatigue." She is trying to be the cavalry to rescue us from that.

A month and a half ago, Obama placed Europe above America for the same price. The amount of blood on this man's hands is staggering and can only be compared to that of Judas Iscariot. It is long past the time for significant action, IMO.
