After delay, Algerian aid convoy arrives in Gaza

www.maannews.net

Gaza – Ma’an – Despite initial delays, Egyptian authorities have allowed an Algerian aid convoy into the besieged Gaza Strip.

Accompanying the convoy of medical equipment and food aid was a delegation of three parliamentarians and other senior figures.

The Algerian Society for Guidance and Reform sent the aid in solidarity with Palestinians following Israel's deadly raid on an aid flotilla.

Egyptian authorities had refused to allow the delegation into Gaza through its Rafah crossing, despite that it was declared open indefinitely. Egyptian sources said the delegation was informed that only three parliamentarians would be allowed to enter, and without the aid.

The delegation rejected the offer, and three were eventually permitted to enter with the aid, officials said.

Egypt has generally kept Rafah open in protest of Israel's raid two weeks ago that left nine people dead.

At least some good has come out of the flotilla disaster. If it were not for that unfortunate attack on the peace activists, Gaza may not have gotten the aid that was sent from Algeria. There is always a silver lining to the most dire of situations. In the end, humanity didn't completely lose... yet.

Good job Egypt!

Funny how fast the israelis forget when the US and other pro-israelis were sending ships to break a similar blockade in 1947...

Just like that one, this one will end.

Good to see more aid getting through and that the algerians held firm to see it get to gaza.. Algeria isnt rich yet steps up to do the right thing as well. On a side note saw in the paper today spain urging the eu to take action against isreal as well.. Maybe enough countries and people can unite and peacefully bring change to the region..

Is this the same flotilla as the Iranian Red Crescent ship? Did that one get through as well?

There is always this way.

This way or they could just ship the aid to the Israeli port and allow them to inspect it. Either way the aid gets in, people just insist on making a point.

No, they can't ship the aid to Israel and have Israel dispense it. Israel doesn't allow most basic items to go through. Israel has banned most basic supplies to sustain life. I started a thread titled, Israeli eases Gaza blockade on some banned food items, critics say move insignificant, in which Israel eased some of the restrictions to allow snack-foods and spices, temporarily. Israel only allows a very small list of things to get through, not nearly enough to sustain life. These relief convoys are bringing in the things that Israel is depriving Gaza of. Deny ignorance, don't propagate it.
