Lisa Murkowski's Proposed Bill Rejected by Senate

The Senate rejected a proposed bill by Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), which would have disabled the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) regulation over carbon emissions. The Senate defeated the bill on Thursday in a 53-47 vote.

Murkowski said in her prehearing speech that the EPA was trying to impose its Clean Air Act, which was inappropriate for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and that the Act should be written in Congress.

Sen. Murkowski later went on to say that the "disapproval resolution is necessary to avoid the 'economic train wreck' that would result from the EPA regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act."

In case the story didn't make it clear, Senator Murkowski's bill would have removed the EPA's authority to regulate carbon emissions outside of Congressional approval. Now that the Murkowski bill has been defeated by a decidedly partisan Senate vote, the EPA under the Obama administration will push for even stricter carbon-emission and other nonsensical environmental mandates, and WITHOUT the consent of Congress or the American people.

Obamaphiles consider this a victory — but then, anything that defies the will of the American people is a "victory" to this president and his mindless crew of eco-zombies.

Gee, obama supported the ruling. It's becoming painfully obvious that we're stuck on the railroad tracks with no way off for the approaching train wreck. The epa's gonna be obama's backdoor way of getting his cap & trade bill with out a vote.

And it's not even the "backdoor" now... The EPA is going to be his primary, front door method of forcing Cap & Trade and everything else down our throats. This president doesn't give a goddamn about the will of the American people; and if he can wreck our capitalist economy without going through Congress, he'll do it. It's the Socialist way.

Okay... I don't get it. A bill designed to give Congress the ability to make legislation is defeated. Then...

President Barack Obama supported the decision. “Today’s vote is yet another reminder of the urgent need to pass legislation that would help America transition to a 21st century clean energy economy that would create jobs, strengthen our national security, and protect our environment for our children,” Obama stated.

So BO supports NOT giving Congress powers to regulate GHGases, supports the EPA regulating GHGs, and says this bill is "a reminder of the urgent need to pass legisation...". So, he wants legislation, just not legal legislation from Congress?

Oh gee. What a shill.

Not a surprise. Another in long line of moves to consolidate power for our grand dictator. Less power for the people. Less power for congress. Would you expect any less from this SOB? Just another baby step to the complete destruction of our nation.....

Never thought I'd see it in my life time. The press were all over President Bush for giving government more power, but what do the press report on obama for doing more? (crickets chirping).
Should be interesting to see how the November elections play out.

Hey. Look on the bright side of this! There are 47 senators out there who were on the RIGHT side of this issue. It's a battle that we lost, but look how close that call was. The whole system may be going to hell in a handbasket, but it looks like there may still be some sanity left in DC.

We just need to focus on bending that divide into our (supporters of the Constitution) favor.

The EPA was created by legislation passed by Congress. It is a con man's game that legislation is now required so that Congress may control that EPA. Beyond this con game, where Representatives write up Bills in hopes of being viewed as actually doing something for the people, there is the reality of enforcement.

When the 18th Amendment was ratified in 1919 this did not put an end to alcohol distillation, importation, and certainly not consumption. Indeed, many historians have postulated that the 18th Amendment was created for the express purpose of giving crime an industry. Currently the only free market is the black market, and while that market is heavily dominated by murderous thugs, increasingly the black market is less about illegal drugs, prostitution and gambling and becoming more and more about ordinary people fed up with the con game taking matters into their own hands.

The failure to effectively enforce the 18th Amendment led to its inevitable repeal. If the American people would willingly allow an administrative agency such as the EPA, one not mandated by Constitution, to bully them around when they blatantly defied the 18th Amendment, then clearly the American people would rather get liquored up than do what is necessary to fight tyranny, and if this is the case, no amount of feel good legislation passed by saintly members of Congress can save them.

Well, I agree, but that doesn't mean we CAN'T restore American faith in the Constitution and cause the People to understand that their participation is vital to proper and just government — indeed, Americans must come to understand that they CAN take back the reins of power if they will only do it.

As is amply demonstrated by this partisan vote to empower the EPA in a manner beyond the control of Congress and the People, this administration and its supporters are more interested in undermining the Constitution and the Power of the People than they are in cleaning up the environment.

The EPA has a pathetic track record of "protecting" the environment, anyway, more frequently pursuing revenue for the State while trampling the rights and freedoms of American citizens.
