www.crystalradio.net...

Most of the threads I've seen here want to go into EVP and such.

My plans are much more mundane.

Lets say your in a situation with no power and no crank radio

You need info from the "outside".

I suggest the humble crystal (xtal) set. At its most basic, you could use some light gauge wire from something you stripped (18g is thermostat/condensor wire) a paper towel/toilet paper roll or a fat stick, a razor after you heated it up red (careful) or a rusty piece of iron, and maybe some cheap walkman type headphones. Cheap is operative here, the high end type wont work at all and a safety pin or simular.

Look up "Foxhole" radio on the net. These things are remarkably good.

Just one more thing to have in your head incase shtf!

Its also just dang fun to do with your kids!

They make several variants of those on the BBC/PBS show "Rough Science". Look that show up the stuff they do is amazing, despite their slogan being "Science not survival". It's the ultimate survivalist show if you ask me. Making a shelter should be common sense as far as I'm concerned. In Rough Science they go to the outer limits in improvising in everything from energy to chemistry.
