ENTERTAINMENT: Arrests made in Half Life 2 code theft

In a very interesting development, arrests have been made in relation to the theft of the much anticipated sequel to the famed fps Half Life. Details are still surfacing but apparantly there are links to the Phatbot trojan author who was arrested in Germany recently.

Valve CEO Gabe Newell credited gamers with providing the information that led to the arrests. �It was extraordinary to watch how quickly and how cleverly gamers were able to unravel what are traditionally unsolvable problems for law enforcement related to this kind of cyber-crime," he said in a statement. "Everyone here at Valve is once again reminded of how much we owe to the gaming community."

The possible connection to Phatbot definately ads a twist to the story. I have to wonder if he was merely part of a group responsible for the threft or if his creation was actually used as a tool in the theft. Its nice to see a change in the tides of internet crime and how its dealt with, especially the help from the various online communities.
