Peace Index Map/List

I looked around and found the website above. Im not really sure if I agree with the list and map presented. There's a total of 149 countries on the list.

The one thing that is a bit odd to me on the list, is Russia is # 143, while North Korea is # 139, Myanmar is # 132, and theres a few other dangerous places that are "More Peaceful" than Russia.

RT says that the Peace Index called Russia one of the most aggressive countries in the world. RT Article

I know Russia is fighting in Chechnya and has some terrorism problems, but I dont see why they are called "One of the most aggressive countries"? I just thought I would share this on here.

Hello,
Weird how Iraq and Afghanistan are amongst the worst rated, yet the warring nation in those two countries is listed as #85? The aggressor in both wars.

Notice how far up the list is Iran? And the US and Israel wanting to beat the war drum against Iran.

I must have a look at N Korea on the list...Yup, just as I suspected, no wheres near S Korea. I call the list Inaccurate. Hands-down.

Notice Haiti's # as another example.

EDIT:

I was attempting to reply to the other GPI thread, but accidentally pulled this one up from my search.

Sorry.

Looks like the list of how peaceful people tend to be within a country. Not the countries themselves. So if there are riots and social unrest, domestic abuse, civil war, kidnappings, drug related violence, or high crime rates - that's going to push the score down. Although how well a country gets along with it's neighbors and the rest of the world may have some weight in scoring.

So it isn't too hard to picture a totalitarian state like NK possibly getting a better score because people choose to toe the line, as compared to a fairly free country like Brazil where you have things like street gangs running around and shooting at each other.

Probably has a use of getting a quick look at the general risk factor for folks choosing to travel abroad. I'm surprised they didn't do something more useful for larger countries like breaking the infographic down to the state, provincial, or metropolitan region level.
