Obama, Meeting Abbas, Pledges New Aid for Palestinians

www.nytimes.com

WASHINGTON — President Obama promised a $400 million aid package for the West Bank and Gaza on Wednesday, as the United States scrambled to come up with a way out of the stalemate in the Middle East exacerbated by the Gaza flotilla incident last week.

America needs to send this money, in large US Bills, to Gaza directly via a flotilla. Then maybe we can find out who are the "bad guys" in that region....

400 million dollars could feed a lot of American kids @ breakfast and supper.

I believe the US sending aid to Gaza is a good thing, but we do have problems in our own country. If the economic problems were not around today, I would support this even further.

I wonder what Israel would do if we did send the aid on flotillas.

The exact details of how such aid would be used in Gaza remained unclear. Nor was it immediately clear how Mr. Abbas, who has authority in the West Bank but no authority in Gaza, would be able to administer it.

I guess it's possible the aid may not even reach Gaza. Im thinking maybe this was just thrown together really fast without planning it out too well.

Frankly, the United States needs to be doing air drops of food, medical supplies, and other basics to the Gaza Strip. Money will be of little use to them if Egypt decides to close their border again.

The money is to be used for reconstruction - going against Israels current policy of denying that (a la cement is banned).

The president also stated the blockade must end and a new "framework" for preventing weapons smugling (spelling off, I know - early here) must be developed.

Looks like Israel has no support in continuing the blockade - and in that regard the flotilla iw which 9 people died was a huge success.

This is just a reminder that sometimes, when you want to right a wrong or make a difference - you have to do it yourself.

It would help more if the u.s stopped supporting / financing the genocide and crimes against humanity being committed by isreal. The u.s "support" for the palestinians will vanish after they finish the clips for the media..

I wonder: how many kids were ripped apart, burnt alive, dismembered and murdered by American bombings during the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq?
How many had their homes, schools and hospitals destroyed, and saw their mums and dads dying? Can anyone give me a number?
What was the collateral damage?
What is the karma of America?
You can never repay it.

Strangely, America found all those billions of Dollars for munitions and bombs to supposedly remove dictators they themselves had created, and few people in the Bush years regarded themselves "free" enough to ask: "Oh, but couldn't we feed our own poor with THAT money?"
Who will ask questions and account for it? Even now.

So let me make sure that I understand this correctly.
Obama is sending $400,000,000.00 to help Palestine reconstruct, while at the same time, the US sends over $3,000,000,000.00 to Israel EACH YEAR, much of which is in weapons and arms, which are used to kill Palestinians.
And to think, we accuse unscrupulous arms dealers of such duplicitous acts!!!
