So, I took the site's text and plugged it into www.k-hello.org... and got this: "my password is goal". Tried to ftp into site with username Cromeline and this PW, but no go. Just a "Cobalt RaQ" place holder for a home page. Nothing in deep either. Whatever. Got excited for a moment.

Yikes...
I pasted in the source from www.foxnews.com and got something spooky.
The result from www.weather.com's source code was even spookier.
Just copy the whole source and paste it in and let it go.
Weird.

the history thing from deep access gives:
let us meet at four

now thats pretty cool...or smtn

and wait WTF this ones weird...the file list gives:
hit target

just like the how to play page...strange

the code from home page was too short so i copied and pasted it a few times and it kept saying needs more time till it said it cant seem to find anything and the alt code is all numbers so its useless

UPDATE: i tried simons opening note (the one with the pic of the letter he got from jeff) and it came up with:
it is not ok

I tried source code from a bunch of regular sites, cnn.com, amazon, a handful of others, and the decrypted msgs are repeating for some of them.
Maybe it only uses characters up to a certain number, and just skips the rest? Not sure how it works, but messages are repeating. I got John Dreams and Let Us Meet at Four also, on other sites.
Dunno if that helps you guys.

I got hit target as well for a Sports Illustrated article
Then I got John dreams
Then I got the book is red

I thought it was an automated list that gives random sayings, but when I tried the same one again I got The Book is red agian and again, so it is true

Yeah, Cryptographever appears to be pretty bogus (see: www.metafilter.com... ), but I was a bit flipped out when I got "my password is goal" rather than something like "dog is blue" (got that when I entered a site I did for a client).

i thought about this & the amount of same sentences that occur but with the occassional other one thrown in. so either -

1. it gives out a list of preset ' hidden codes' & is just a prank or
2. many web page codes are written similar style & source code so throw out the same 'hidden codes' but have occasional real 'hidden codes' included

maybe a seperate thread should be opened to paste websites addys & their results to keep track of this
