The State Department's Worst Nightmare

www.thedailybeast.com

The State Department and American embassies around the world are bracing for what officials fear could be the massive, unauthorized release of secret diplomatic cables in which U.S. diplomats harshly evaluate foreign leaders and reveal the inner-workings of American foreign policy.

Diplomatic and law-enforcement officials tell The Daily Beast their alarm stems from the arrest of a 22-year-old Army intelligence analyst based in Iraq who has reportedly admitted that he downloaded 260,000....

Wow, this is going to be picked up by mainstream soon I would hope.

I think this is what the wikileaks founder was talking about a few weeks ago when he was saying that this would blow the door wide open, so to say.

“If he really had access to these cables, we've got a terrible situation on our hands," said an American diplomat. "We're still trying to figure out what he had access to. A lot of my colleagues overseas are sweating this out, given what those cables may contain.”

Time to bust out the popcorn...

Someone might leak it to the public and expose worldwide vice and corruption?

Someone might let us see our leaders for how they really are, instead of running everything through a teleprompter at a press conference?

Gasp, the horror.

Oh noes there will be transparency, and that means jail time. Everyone run!!!!

Agreed, I now see why they are trying to silence wikileaks.... I expect we should see this soon if this is what wikileaks was referring to last week.

Thats what would happen if it gets into the "right" hands

If it gets into the "wrong" hands, well thats something we don't want.

This seems extremely suspicious to me. How do we know that the whole incident wasn't engineered just to give TPTB an ironclad excuse to pounce on Wikileaks and shut them down under the pretense of ensuring that these alleged leaked cables don't get out?

Well you can bet the Feds are looking at this thread.. ( Hi Boys!)

The thing the Feds need to really understand here is Yes, this can happen. someone can somewhere always hack something, and download something and make it public.

I disagreed with Wikileaks showing the 2007 video for national security reasons. But most people understand at wartime emotions are high and people use a lack of judgment.

If these documents are released you might have a black eye from the serious intel and have to change your plans and make a few apologies.. but what will really hurt you guys are the racial slurs, the hate attitude, and the illegal activities you have done to your enemy.

If you have done these things, Americans need to know about them. They need to know what their Government is doing so we can get rid of you people that We The People don't want "representing us".

Perhaps this is for the best. Perhaps this will cause our Government to be torn down and rebuilt in We The Peoples image, not the bureaucrats, the elitist, the war mongers.

I say, bring it ON !

Such as? Our imagery enemies that we constantly denigrate and paint as threats while our side has full global military dominance might actually gain some edge against us in the diplomatic arena?

Serious you tell me what you think could happen. These guys only even get their jobs because they're morally devoid and have vices, which can be used to blackmail them. Someone else comes in and tries to blackmail them? Well they're a traitor and a double agent.

If we don't have the security in place to even monitor our own guys the lazy and false pretenders in the "intelligence community" need a few stabs in the back so they can get their act together. Their constant failures are appalling, and what information the public does get from them is outright lies.

Maybe we get some public diplomatic cables and someone might reveal the CIA runs drugs (like we all don't know that) or that there is actually a revolving door between the CIA and major financial institutions and they're actually engaging in economic terrorism totally unchecked.

Go take a look at one of those diplomatic cables on wikileaks right now.

Classified cable from US Embassy Reykjavik on Icesave

Gee the governments of the British and Dutch didn't want Icelanders to be allowed to vote in a referendum on bailing them out so they went and asked the USA who didn't care and wasn't going to change it's stance.

Oooo really damaging stuff if that ever falls into the hands of "our enemies" which appear to be the voting and working public from the gist of this. Well we'll never live it down.

oh that guys probly just afraid of those mass hordes of terrorists roaming our streets, killing our pet birds.... if the media says fear terrorists they fear terrorists, if the media tells them secrets are important to national security they think good thing the terrorists wont get those secrets. but when a wise man tells them fear nothing but fear itself, they all say ..what? and its forgoten so they can fear something else, and when a wise man tells them nothing secret is anything good. they again fail to understand.

im only wondering why in the hell these havnt been released already, what is wikileaks doing? building up anticipation and anxiety to help with advertising? where talkin about evidence of corruption in our government and this guys hording it over us braging about its importantance/singifigance and yet still holding it secret himself. fuc%er better hury up and tell us what it is.

Either I misunderstood what kind of information they have, or my post was misunderstood.

I dont care if wiki released info to show us what we already know. But I guess there has to be proof.

I typed if it gets into the wrong hands only because of a statement made in the article.

"We're still trying to figure out what he had access to. A lot of my colleagues overseas are sweating this out, given what those cables may contain.”

So what did he have access to? Could be anything right?

No. It's diplomatic cables. What do you think they're doing transmitting the plans for their next race specific space based anti matter powered telsa super cannon via the embassy to their friends overseas?

It's all wheeling and dealing. Dark back room deals between parties with shared interests to sell out their own people and possibly get a piece of that blood for oil contract or a job at JP Morgan.

It's Australia telling the US embassy we had to cancel Obama's male escorts and we'd like him to pay some of the tab since he was the one that didn't show up and Pepe wants his money.

It's The Circle Of Commitment trying to find ways to tell the "developing nations" we want them all to die and think they should give us more money to save them from weather.

It's BP telling Obama that they'll pull a full tricks to distract the stupid public but they're going to be doing whatever they want to recover their oil, and if he doesn't like it they'll tell everyone he was the guy in the WHOOMP there it is video.

It's Hilary and Netanyahu cooking up propaganda stories and planning false flags.

That sort of stuff.

This is Not good. No need for this!
A "22-year-old Army intelligence analyst" a boy with this Data dating back over several years. Who was overseeing this Traitor and Why was there no Internal Alarms going off when the copying to cd dvd or usb etc.. was active. This data has to be from an Internal network I hope. A lot of late questions I know.

All up if I see this Data online what I will do is inform My local Forces(aus) Better late than never and get it OFF LINE.
I will not come to ATS and make a thread.

I have my own line drawn in the sand and this Traitor has Crossed IT!

Now Compare this to the Gary McKinnon case, Harmless Gary showed them, BUT THEY STILL DON'T LISTEN!

EDIT: Twit them.
@wikileaks If you Have the 260,000 diplomatic cables Please Do Not Release them. Hold Them! OR Be Condemned!

Good sir, I don't know if you've noticed but these were US diplomatic cables, not Australian ones. This man certainly hasn't done anything to betray us.

Our fairweather "allies" perhaps, but revealing information that should be public, with the publics interest in mind is not betrayal.

I'll have you know the owner and progenitor of wikileaks is Australian.

Bloody hell mate what are you blokes in the army smoking? I always figured you guys for a bunch intellectually handicapped sheep. But get real. You're the one risking your life to attack other people for a wage that doesn't even exceed the poverty line buddy, not me.

I'm not at war with anyone. And I've no intention of ever being at war with anyone. I'm much, much more concerned about you blokes in the Army and Police and my enemies in Canberra than I am about any phantom terrorist.

I can quite clearly see who is hell bent on ruining my way of life, and her name is Anna Bligh not Ahmajinedad.

Yeah I'm sure you're gonna think the yanks are great allies now that inept clown Swan opened the door for the IMF. I hope you like some nice big fat AUSTERITY MEASURES

What'll we do? get the same situation as Icesave? Hey? Bail out American savers without a referendum and subsequently Centrelink and Medicare have to be discontinued? Bugger off.

These guys are the crooks and terrorists not the poor people living in other countries.

Hopefully one day, before it's too late you and many other Australians will figure out the elite rich are our real enemies in this country and the middle class is what is under threat. Not our "freedom"

Get your priorities straight and try and ditch that brainwashing.

I will leave this here so you can see the vision of one of our founding fathers here in the US.

Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not
have, nor do they deserve, either one.
-- President Thomas Jefferson. 1743-1826

If a nation expects to be both ignorant and free, it expects what
never was and never will be.
