Everybody that supports Iran always insists that their nuclear ambitions are peaceful and strictly for energy development.

I have asked this question a number of times and nobody to date has been able to provide a reasonable answer.

Why, if Iran's pursuit of nuclear technology is strictly energy based, did they build a nuclear power plant too small to actually produce power, yet large enough to produce weapons?

There are only two answers and frankly neither sit well with me.

1. There is not a peaceful motive.
2. They are too ignorant regarding nuclear technology to know exactly what size power plant is actually needed to produce power. [This is doubtful since Ahmadinejad is actually rather intelligent.]

I would be interested in hearing your opinion on this since to me, it is the most blatant evidence that their motives are not for energy development at all. Or at best, not solely for producing energy.

Thus, by Iran's own admission, the Qom facility is too small for civilian purposes. It is not, however, too small to produce meaningful amounts of highly enriched uranium for a nuclear weapons program.

Very good thread freighttrain. It's nice to see histories of someone that know that country. Too bad that your family had to suffer so much.

A bit off topic, but you know what really caught my attention? A few years ago (i think it was in 2001), my cousin hosted a guy from Canada at his house, here in Brazil. And this guy was from a iranian family. When i was reading your post i tought: "Wow, maybe it's him". I don't remember much of his history, and i know that there's a lot of iranians in Canada, but i think that your age matches with this guy's.

Well, did you ever came to Brazil?

Unfortunately the %30 run the country as they own the power... I do miss my original home and how it was... there are LOT of beautiful hearted people in Iran, in fact majority are... but aren't being heard, Iran has one of the most humbling people you will ever come across in the entire world... they give a hand to stranger, they are welcoming, they open their home to you as one of your own, give you the little they have (and yes there are the some abusers just like anywhere else in the world). Iran has one of the oldest cultures in the world... it has roots, and the people just know it, deep in their hearts (must be part of DNA).

Persia had one of the greatest kings among kings... Cyrus The Great, the most beloved king...

One of my best and oldest friends is Persian and you've just confirmed everything he's ever told me about Iran. He said even the poorest people would invite you in to eat with them and give you all they have. Even when they don't have much at all, they'd treat you like royalty.

A few years ago he went back there and took a camera with him to film Persepolis and the tomb of Darius for me. I love the sphinxes.

He also named two of his sons Darius and Cyrus.

freighttrain and wigit,
I have posted this before on a radio station blog before, but it is worth repeating:

I have lived here in the UAE for over five years and have been working on rigs here, Egypt, Syria and offshore Iran. In fact most of last year I worked on nothing but IOOC rigs. I worked offshore Turkmenistan on the Iran Khazar for a number of weeks. The rig personnel were all Iranians except for the doctor, he was Russian.

Anyway, they were some of the most hospitable rig hands I have ever workrd with. e.g.: After dinner they would be down in the Rec. room watching Farsi movies or Iranian TV and when I walked in they would quickly ask if there was anything I would care to watch!!

The food was great and they would prepare for me hamburgers, french fries, etc. Just no bacon for breakfast!!

I just want to reiterate that people are people, we just want to live right, support and love our families, etc.

Thank you for the great post. s&f

Tom

What is wrong with you?

What democracy? You are on ATS and still think there is democracy in USA?
Democracy means "power of people".
Do you have any power?
Have you voted for any laws?
Have you made decisions in regard to legislation?
----
All you do is vote for someone once in 4 years
and call it power of people = uaaaahaaaahaaaaa

I just love how people in our lazy, fatass country (who, by the way are having not only our money, but our very way of life stolen from us by corporate America, with our govt's consent) tell people in Iran to revolt and risk losing their lives and those of their loved ones, when we're too apathetic to do the very thing we recommend to them.
We are all people, we may have differences in skin color or ideology or religion, but everyone loves their family, everyone loves their kids, everyone has the right to live their lives on their terms.
Don't be so quick to give Iran the losing grade in comparison to us. We too have our religious whackjobs who are steadily gaining power. In Iran they've just had longer to work at it.
Just because we're free to sit in front of the tv or computer all day, doesn't mean we're free. We too are owned.

I think that was a really good video, and I am very sorry for what you, your family, and fellow citizens were put through at our expense. I believe if you go back even further than the "1953 Iranian coup d'état," you will find out the true reason why you and your fellow citizens were put into this tragedy.

In 1901, the first OIL discovered in the Middle East was in Persia located in present day Iran, But more importantly it was discovered in Masjed-Soleyman. MS is located in the Khūzestān Province, which just happens to be the same port province where BP (Anglo-Iranian Oil Company) had their Iranian headquarters, and same port province Sadam tried to take from Iran in the Iran-Iraq War beginning 1980.

Can you see the pattern?

-1901, first OIL in Iran.
-Under British control

-1951, Mosaddegh nationalized the British-owned Anglo-Iranian Oil Company with near unanimous support of Iran's parliament.
-The West loses control of OIL.

-1953, the U.S. and Britain organize the Iranian coup d'état to regain control of Iran's OIL.

-1953-79, 25+ years of a ruthless U.S. and Britain backed dictatorship to suck every drop of OIL out of Iran.

-1979, the Iranian Hostage Crisis and Islamic Revolution.
-The U.S. and Britain lose control of Iran's OIL. People of Iran are finally in charge.

-1980, the Iran-Iraq War. Sadam invades the Khūzestān Province, his army financially backed by the U.S. and Britain.
-Iraq has also been under British control since it was captured in WWI, and was granted its independence in 1932 under a British backed King. Hrmm, wonder who ordered that?

-2010, Iran believes in has little oil, and is seeking to build a nuclear program to sustain its people into the 21-century.
- U.S. and Britain want war to regain control of the Khūzestān Province because they know something the Iranians do not.

IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT THE OIL IN THE IRAN!

I can't believe I have to explain this. Pro-Iranian posters always revert back to the fact that Iran is developing nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

I have provided evidence to the contrary.

My issue is not whether or not they should be permitted to build nukes, my question is how can people say they're not trying to!

If you look at the OP, you will see the following:

- Iran currently is NOT interested in nuclear weapon, they really do need electricity and are trying to push themselves to become more technologically independent. (They already have nukes, guess what happened to hundreds of nukes going missing after cold war... who's one the main supporter of Iran... so no need to create new ones)

All I am asking is for this to be proven true.
Make the statement, provide the proof.
It's really very simple.

How about Canadians, are they good people too?

I remember the Iranian hostage crisis very well, I was a young man then, and it was used as a propaganda ploy to put Reagan into power, who ushered in a new era of control by the PTB who seek a New World Order, where the world is divided between haves and have nots.

I have never been to Iran, but I have friends who grew up there, and I have been to third world countries, and what I do know is that our government treats us a whole heck of a lot better than people are treated in third world countries.

I also know that if the good people of this world want to be free, they need to stand up to brutal regimes and fight for their freedom, not just flee from them, and develop prejudices against the people in the new nation generous enough to give them sanctuary.

While Western governments have their problems, Iran and other nations like Iran, are far worse.

You might want to consider that the U.S. and Britain are fighting the crises created by ruthless governments like the one that is currently in power in Iran, not creating those crises.

Maybe instead of blaming the U.S. and Britain for the problems that exist in Iran, you should go back to Iran to fight for the liberation of Iran.

Have you ever served in the military? Have you ever taken a stand to support liberty and freedom?

Hi freighttrain,

An excellent thread in which you make your experiences, views and hopes well known.

I appreciate the words of someone who has actually experienced Iran and I assure you, I have never forgotten the history of the US/UK with Iran and have always maintained that 'we' in the West were responsible for the 'problem' we now face.

Together with the member 'Eliad', you bring a fresh, raw perspective untainted by blind hatred.

Thank you.

Skellon.

Salaam Chetoori !

Chetoora ? Badneesdam Merci !

Excuse the spelling but thats phonetically an interpretation of some of the Farsi words I had learned while in college from my Persian friends.

Excellent thread and another refreshing read and pleasant break from the status quo, the oh so common Liberal/Conservative political pissing matches here on ATS.

First a little of my background and it's relevance to the topic.

I have never been to Iran but attended Engineering school in Boston in the late 70's where I met my first Persians who were students at the University I attended.

Very cool people indeed, very cultured and classy and the Persian women were not only gorgeous but also very intelligent as well !

As one who always has tried to deny ignorance, I gracefully accepted
my American bred display of western ignorance in generalizing and lumping all Muslims categorically into one group of people, mainly of Arabic extraction.

And why they are called Persians.

But all in all it really opened my eyes and as well as my mind to Iran and it's people.

This BS about Iran seeking Nukes to destroy Israel is simply the Rothschilds Zionist controlled media broadcasting this rubbish as a means of justifying the backing of Israel in using military force in getting the Rothschild owned - BP's grubby hands on the Iranians Oil again.

AND

Additionally this ruse is also for the benefit of the Rothschild's Banking cartel to once again gain control of Iran's Central Bank and money again, through which the Millions in Iranian oil revenues flow.

What is truly sad is that looking at our current economic situation and who benefited the most from the recent banking Bailouts, mainly Goldman Sachs, the American people still can't see the forest for the trees in who our REAL enemy actually is, as well as WHO controls our economy as well as our foreign diplomacy.

The Americans would much rather buy the propaganda generated by the Oil soaked Zionist controlled media aka FOX and maliciously point to a country who has never attacked anyone or started any wars in it's history but has only defended itself in their attempt to be free and to live in peace.

Choda-Fez ! (God Be With You)

I don't know all the facts behind the scene, but what I can tell you is a land mass half the size of Canada and population double the size of Canada will have power shortage, specially since it's using OLD technology. I lived in the Capital city, which is one the most advanced cities in Iran and power used to go on monthly bases... this was norm. So I KNOW electricity is one of the top reasons...

So as to say why they started small... well before you can start running.. you need to learn how to crawl, then stand up and then walk... so spend enormous money and resources on something you never have build before is bad strategy, start small, experiment... then move up! Now as far as bombs go, i've already mentioned that I'm already convinced they already have them... so no need to make new ones, all you need is a few to take out a smaller country.. hint.. hint.. so to say they're wanting to make new ones, is just not feasible with all eyes watching them. It makes no since, when black market in middle east is the main source of purchasing ANYTHING you ever wanted.

This new sanction that was just put on Iran is yet another way to hurt the people of Iran and yes, it directly damages the people... the government will move on... like it always has... it's a shame...

My family suffered very minor compared to so many others in the world today... I've known of so many stories trying to flee their country, simply to survive and many have died during the transition as it's not meant for every day person to go through... psychologically to run to somewhere you never been... leave everything you've know about behind... for anyone... it's tough...

haha and no I never been to Brazil.. but it's part of my todo list before I die.. so I'll make sure to U2U when I"m my way up there
