He killed a fig tree....the tree loggers would love him.

He turned water into wine and set the course of human history towards meth amphetamine kitchen labs... Drug companies [legal and not] would love him.

He saved a whore from an angry Johns rough mob justice... pimps and whores and brothel owners would love him.

He overturned the money changes tables at the temples... athiests and those on welfare would love him.

I could go on but so far it seems that he would still be loved by 90% of the scum whom the abrahamic faith run media love to disparage and take a huge dump on!

Personal Disclosure: Jesus is a NAZI! He supports his fathers kingdom 100% which is clearly a state of being a Nationalistic Zealot and he promotes a socialist agenda and therefore he is a National+Socialist AKA a Nazi!

Uhmm... it would be prudent to point out that this is YOUR OPINION!! And an opinion devoid of respect at that... thnx for your contribution.

Jesus cannot be classed into simple things like hippie or nazi or whatever else one might make up.. It would sooner be the other way around, nazi's incorporating elements of Jesus's way of life... So In that light one can say that Jesus displayed attributes seen today in most social classes. He was firm when apropiate and gentle when needed. Its quite easy to just note down the individual actions described in the bible and syphon out the negative aspect on it but it is far from complete...

Take the guy who knocked out the burglar trying to rob his house... who gets locked up? this is the same logic you wanna use when judging Jesus Christ?

I dont even understand why I bothered responding to this thread. The question posed isn't wrong but the responses given dont show anything constructive to the question, instead its meant to bash and make a fool out of a person who many of us here look up to for salvation. People should AT LEAST try to show a bit of respect when discussing this subject. I find quite a few posts here pretty darn offensive.

Dont forget that if the average agnostic or atheist is wrong they're gonna get their asses handed to them pretty darn soon... If not for your fellow posters who DO believe, try showing some respect for your own sake... you never know right? Deny ignorance anyone?

Keep an open mind!!

Explanation: I am quite sure that 80% of my post was about those who would love Jesus! The other 20% was calling a spade a spade!

Do you doubt that he wanted to die for "our" sins?

Can you provide any evidence that my argument is wrong about him being a Nazi?

Personal Disclosure: I don't hate Jesus but I don't worship him either! I too am a Nazi under the same standard that I applied to Jesus! I support Australia with a patriotic [to me] fervour and I am also a socialist. [ie. slightly left of cernter!]

P.S. If I really wanted to bash Jesus I would have called him a Sicko for wanting to die for me. But even if I had of [which I didn't] I have heard that he is the type that...

A] Turns the other cheek.

AND...

B] Forgives those that respectfully seek it.

Maybe you could try and emulate him?

Just thinking, whenever I search on what Christianity has to say about other religions and their prophets "respect" is not a description that comes to mind.
Now for some reason Christians come to a thread with a variety of possible opinions like this, and for some vague reason they demand respect, when their main evengelical movement has a long history of calling the prophets and Gods of others "satanic" and wicked. Some even insult members of their own faith on technicalities, usually the Catholics, the Jehova's Witnesses and Mormons.
Some Christians I do respect, but for them to automatically demand a respect they don't give is perplexing.

So if Jesus wasn't a Nazi or a Hippie, then by the events in the NT (as far as they actually don't contradict each other between the Gospels) what was He?

It's a false dichotomy in any case because both Nazis and Hippies were morally complex.
I personally think he didn't exist and was a composite figure of other "heavenly" deities, and He was specifically created as an unclear figure for any power structure or revolutionary to justify whatever they are doing.

I think it was a bit of both. While definitely appealing to the redneck on the sense that Jesus wasn't wealthy and in his claim that he "came not to bring peace but a sword". But also very much a peace loving non-violent resister. He exhibited a bit of both and I think that you'd find that true of most human beings. Most people are not the black and white, conservative versus liberal tha we make them out to be - there's a false dichotomy at work there.

Jesus remains one of my favorite philosophers though I left the Christian faith long ago.

yup, gotta agree with you there is a general lack of respect. But ATS is in my POV a good place to be BECAUSE of the respect shown in general... I feel its good to remind ourselves from time to time that we come here to learn and share different POV with people likeminded in the sence that they are searching for the truth... to be able to accomplish this, respect is a must. without it things would just turn into an endless "yes or no" debate...

Still you're right when saying that most religions including religions based on the bible have a tendency to condemn other streams of faith as being heretical or satanic... On the other hand, most religions advise to thread carefully about accusing individuals as being the aforementioned... how would one be able to win souls when bashing someone's faith..

Sure ATS is a wonderful forum for these kinds of debates, and in that sense it leans towards the academic world in that we can debate, even attack ideas, but never the people who make them. There are very few Christians one could have this discussion with face-to-face without it leading to the end of an friendship or worse.
However, I don't see how this should mean automatic respect for any concept or idea (and until Jesus comes down PERSONALLY and writes on ATS, He remains just that - an ethereal paradigm - the proverbial pie-in-the-sky).

On the other hand, most religions advise to thread carefully about accusing individuals as being the aforementioned... how would one be able to win souls when bashing someone's faith..

I suppose if it's about winning souls and Abrahamic faith concepts like eternal torture or eternal "heaven", you'd have to bash other faiths.
You cannot say Jesus is the only way and respect other faiths as true.
Of course not all Christians believe that there are no other ways in other eras and contexts. Nevertheless, the current most vocal group does.
If you want to convert somebody to that "only way" (or rather, a specific church or stream in Christianity) you have to bash their beliefs and tell them they are wrong and ignoble, and you are right and better. You won't "win their souls" by telling them what they believe is right! It's an inherently disrespectful world-view.

hehehe... really cant disagree with that gotta agree with you.
BTW I am one of those who dont believe my faith is "the only way" I dont even believe in a promise of going to heaven or hell (the bible teaches no such thing in my opinion)

Well... a star for your post

Thanks, ditto stars!
What does sometimes irk me is that because of cultural factors threads may dwell on questions around Jesus, and there's also a lot of abuse going on in other philosophies and faiths that are likewise etherial and pie-in-the-sky. So I'd just like to mention that for context and fairness.

Well Jesus would have used swords or bows and arrows, so I guess that makes him a Hippie.

But I guess it's the thought that counts, so the sword might as well be a firearm.

Jesus didn't believe in freebies?
During His ministry it sure seems that He sponged off His devotees.

He also taught us to pray for our daily bread, without really offering anything in return.

But maybe, if you sponge from God, then all the people you sponge from are just God's expressions of His blessings.
The colonialists understood that notion very well.

Jesus sponged off his devotees?

You do realize you're going to Hell for that statement, don't you?
... just kidding.

Just because you bring up the Lords prayer doesn't mean the Lord wrote or said it.
But in your context I think "bread" was a metaphor and not to be taken literally.
We can debate all day whether Jesus believes in freebies or not, but remember, it's better to give than to receive.
I take that to mean Jesus would probably be ok with one or two freebies but certainly not with a permanent gimme gimme gimme attitude.

Yep, T'is better to give than to receive, give to all equally, not give to the same masses everytime.
With the exception of bread, It also doesn't say anything about taking or entitlements.
