Whilst I completely agree with you, I would add that all war, all conflict, is EGO driven. It is the ego that gives rise to self-righteousness and when the self-righteous meets other, concurring, self's, the collective energy becomes as a mindless beast, destroying individual discernment.

The irony of self negating self in the pursuit of dominance discloses the ultimate futility of war.

I'd second the comment that all conflict is ego-driven. If one has disposed of the ego to the point of equanimity then there really is no need to "prefer" that external things be one way or the other. Therefore there is no need to fight to achieve some preferred way for things to be.
