When read in the context of 2012 they are very meaningful...what do you think she is singing about? Re cycling people, prison planet, what is her home is not what she thought, dont trust your eyes trust your heart, is the Earth going to save you as she crumbles??? Dont trust your mind, shes not afraid of changing , you have to admit these lyrics have hidden meaning.

I completely agree - Katie Melua is a conspiracy to keep us all anaesthetized with her thoroughly mundane and drab songs.

I doubt if the poor thing's got the talent to actually conceptualise a conspiracy though.

Well I guess she will make money out of it yes, but thats not what Im interested in, maybe who ever wrote this song doesnt mind, they just want to get the message out, or yes maybe they too want to capitalize in on it too. However you look at it, these are not your standard lyrics.

I believe we live in a matrix prison so maybe thats why the lyrics caught my eye. I believe we are constantly sent back here life time after life time. I dont trust my eyes because what they show me is how the matrix wants me to perceive my surroundings. It doesnt bother me that someone is making money out of this song, if it helps just a few open their minds then thats all that matters.

Big confession here. I never listen to the lyrics. They are written for entertainment and cash. I have no idea if these are standard lyrics.

Well a quick scan showed 2 out of 4 are in other songs.

I thought this song would end up on ATS.Pesonally,I think it is a fantastic song,it makes a change from the mundane 'I'm in love or trying to find love' songs.

I like the lyrics "I'm certain nothings certain"simple but to the point.Two more songs I have listened to on the new album,The House are, Red balloons and I'd love to kill you.Both of which have great lyrics.

She aint bad looking either.

I guess there will be a high chance of that...but they arnt put together in this way are they? Single lines can be found in other songs of course but they will not be in this same context of floods, prisons, re cycled people, mind control and Earth crumbling. Why would she be singing about such non popular concepts ? You say to make money but outside of ATS/similar forums 2012 isnt taken that well known, everyone I know thought the film was just a joke so for artists to make money out of deliberately writing lyrics around it to make money seem off, but of course it is possible. Its far more popular to make songs about love though dont you think .

She's singing about the prison you put yourself into, not a prison planet. She's saying be fluid, like water, and follow the path of least resistance.. Water has never once flowed uphill, but it's one of the most destructive forces on the planet!

That is explained well in yet another Tool song her's reminded me of a sort of.. less poetic, simpler version of maynard's masterpiece!

I think that this cashes in on the 2012 stuff. The movie is free advertising for this sentiment. It's interesting that you say few people know about 2012. I agree. There are other forums here at ATS where people claim that this is all people talk about now.

I bet you are right that there are more love songs. One of my favorites to which I actually listed to the lyrics is the Masochism Tango by Tom Lehrer.

Again.. The song never really references anything specific, especially 2012 or any sort of flood.

C'mon people, symbolism! Read BETWEEN the lines.

It's a song about her seeing the impermanence in the things she holds dear, that nothing is certain, and to embrace change. Flow with the changes in your life, don't resist them.
