Salutations and greetings. After some brief perusing of conspiracy theories regarding the NWO/Illuminati/Bilderberg/Other Secret Order, I have come to threefour

1) They're correct. This, however, begs the question of why such organisations would brag about their own existence and not shut down any debate - for example, they could destroy ATS quite easily and put the blame on some other organisation, such as Anonymous.

2) They're only scratching the surface, and missing the point, in the same way Morpheus did - he didn't realise Zion was just another method that the machines were using to control the humans. This doesn't mean that ATS, Alex Jones, and the other conspiracy sites are deliberately set up; only that they're allowed to continue as long as they don't discover the truth. Rather than the Eye of Horus being their symbol, it's a red herring spread throughout society to throw people off the scent. The Illuminati is just a decoy organization, designed to confuse people.

3) Such secret societies do exist, but lack the power often ascribed to them - they are reactive rather than proactive. No one organisation controls world affairs, but they can guide them. They don't create events like 9-11, but do take advantage of them. They possibly set red herrings to make them seem more powerful than they are.

The fourth possibility is even more disturbing:

4) There are no secret societies - everything ascribed to them is being perpetrated by civilisation as it stands. There's no one organisation that can be blamed, the blame lies on everybody who is part of the system, who continue to brainwash their fellow humans. This is the most frightening possibility, as it results in an enemy that is nearly impossible to destroy - human civilisation. Everything that happens happens separately, but they add up into a Monster, a juggernaut that is almost impossible to avoid. There is no enemy to fight - you *are* the enemy, and every action you take which encourage people to discard healthy scepticism is contributing to the perpetuation of the system you claim to hate.
