Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere. I ran a search and didn't see any mention of it.
---

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is said to be considering sailing to the GAZA strip with an aid flotilla backed by Turkish Navy ships, international news media reported. The Lebanese newspaper al Mustaqbal quoted a security source as saying that the Turkish Prime Minister has been pondering a move that could break the blockage imposed by Israel against Gaza.

Here's the source.

Edit: This is not funny. The comment in my thread's title is meant as sarcasm. Too many years on other sites with a sarcastic humor.

Personally, I don't see this going well if it happens. Israel will of course try to intervene. If they do and there is any threat to the Turkish PM, their Navy will act to protect him. Is this the beginning of an Israel/Turkey armed conflict? What do you guys think?

Erdogan at the front and Netanyahu in his bunker?

No, not funny at all.

I greatly respect the initiative though. He would not do it unless he was absolutely sure of the legalities and his position. Israel will NOT board his vessel.

Dear The Theorist

WW3 is about to break out and I heard it first of ATC.

I can not count that ways this could escalate over night.

Which ever way you look at it if the Jews pay it wrong they are history.

Okay the hilarity in the title caught my attention. I was ready to jump in here and say, Hilarity? WTF?

Naw, this might just be NOT GOOD.

I don't like the way it seems to be playing out right now.

This does have an air of seriousness to it.

I have for the last three years encouraged my most cherished Israeli friend to GET OUT!

Always, some sort of excuse that I can't even understand. Sell your house, go back to England, go to Europe, hell come here and we will sponsor you and get you on your feet. Nope.

But, now, she is going, "ut oh". And I fear she is too late.

I will, of course, hope for the best for her and all the people in that region, like my concern will help.

If this is true, it is an extraordinarily bad idea.

Israel would stop the flotilla...with or without Turkish naval escort....with or without the Turkish PM on board.

What would happen after that is difficult to calculate...largely depending on whether or not the PM was injured or killed in the incident.

If it were this easy to resolve long-standing cultural/geo-political/religious stand offs...all we would ever have to do is place the leader of a third party country in the line of fire.

Everyone would stop shooting, make nice - and presto, peace!

Korean conflict? Obama will just fly to the border of NK and SK and stand there...problem solved!

As if.

Like I said, this is a really dumb idea if it's real.

Well it does just say he is considering, that means he is considering the consequences as well. I bet this will never happen.

I sincerely hope the Turkish PM take this trip and why only him, more and more leaders should do this. This is a perfect way to end the illegal blockade and apartheid in Gaza and West Bank.

Don't know if it is true about leading an aid convouy but if only our PM had half the sized ball as Turkeys PM then we would not be in the mess we are in.

That axes of evil list must be getting bigger by the day

I will bet my house that Turkey has a large secret nuclear arsenal.

The turkish PM's advisors wouldnt allow him to take this risk, with navy support or not. It would look like something out of the movie 300, the turks being the persian army and the Israeli's being the spartans blocking the pass stating "your names not down, your not coming in".

Turkish Commander: "Damn the torpedoes! Four bells! Captain Crayton, go ahead! Joucett, full speed!". (Substitute muslim names for Crayton and Joucett)

This is taking on the aura of an historic classic event. Let's hope it's not one of the last. Betting that Turkey's got nukes. Know that Israel does. Iran wants a piece of the action too, for the Islamic brothers. They can't let Turkey (US ally still, hopefully) upstage them on this.

It sounds like a disaster novel in real-life.

Why would Israel not stop the convoy?

If they are tying to run the blockade, no matter who it is, Israel has the right to stop them.

I did not say that they wouldn't/shouldn't. I was trying to convey the drama and tenseness of the situation.

No, they don't. The blockade is illegal under International law. Period. End of story.

This had me rolling on the floor. Because it may not solve the problem between NK and SK but it sure would help the U.S.

On Subject though, this is very serious and would put the U.S. in a bad position as we have treaties with both. I do not worry so much about Israel because personally I think they would kick butt.

Just for people that were not aware, there was tension between the two 'allies' long before this flotilla incident.

Kind regards,
