Well for a human coming into the system from birth to death his extra time will probably be taught to be used diifferently. I feel most people would be spending most of their time continuing school so we as a society will output 1000% more scientists. If people are no longer slaves I feel we will focus more on arts and sciences and making them the focus of humanity instead of competeing economically nation against nation. That competition is why we war for oil and resources and we will never become balanced as a whole mankind. By the way your post is kind of confusing your saying because you think people will do nothing with their time we might as well stay a slave race and not even use a grand vision of ideas that will empower all people. Its really sad you are fine with your grand children working in construction instead of a scientist working to better our homes and electricity and way of life. IMagine a world with no rent or bills where machines and technology do all our manual labor so we as a civilization will use more brain then braun and truly become GREAT PEOPLE!!!! We have more than enough.

A reduction in hours in not an elimination of the system.

People will still get paid under a 20 hour system and there will be rewards for increaed productivity.

Increased effort = increased pay.

Although I do agree that there is a lot of greed in our Capitalistic society, and I do believe the work week should be shorter, I wouldn't put the number at 20. I really doubt twenty hours a week is realistic. Why do you think that could work?

The truth is, scarcity does exist. It requires educated people to come up with several products and solutions in our society, and several skilled labourers to do a large amount of specialized work as well. These people's abilities are scarce. Not everyone can develop them or has the resources to develop them. Everybody has different talents. We also have limited natural resources.

The 20 hour work week though is unrealistic. How would you suggest we cut this down? Automated production? Someone has to take care of the large amount of machines then. Someone also has to manufacture them. At the same time, the demand for these machine makers/maintainers will rise, so will their wages, along with the hours they need to work.

I just don't see it working. Labour is in demand, and to double everyones wages just won't happen if we keep the economy in equilibrium. You just can't get enough work done in 4 hours a day!

By following the OP's ideas we would eliminate the need for a great number of jobs. These folks would need to then be integrated, re-education if you must have it, into the workforce to produce or provide a tangible sytem. Those who sit on their butts for 40 hours would actually have to do work during the 20 hour workweek. If everyone eligible to work in society actually put in 20 hours of actual hard work we would have plenty of production and skilled labors to do what was needed/desired.

No taxation is easy to handle. Just have the treasury print whatever money they need to operate. If it was put to productive use, as in it provides a net benefit to society, then it likely wouldn't be inflationary.

Energy does need to be solved. Taking it straight from the ether will be the only viable end solution. Everything else uses too much resources and has limited lives.

I think that the OP has the right idea. If we worked together we could all have vastly improved lives and the overachievers would still their due rewards.

I think we would be even more productive with 20 hour work weeks.

There are plenty of skilled people out there looking for jobs. The problem is pure politics.
