1/4-1/3 try at least 50% and in some cases 75%.
No, doesn't have to be like that, it's just we are a enslaved species and most of us just simply are too stupid to rebell.

Why not get rid of the typical currency altogether and replace it with a value system based on contribution to society. Let's say 24 hours worth of 'contribution to society' every week will allow you for all the basic necessities of life for the rest of the week. This could be 24 hours contributed to building roads, producing food/water, distribution of necessities, etc.
The more hours or the more valued your contribution (a revolutionary invention, a very specialized skill, etc)... the more "freedom" and "luxuries" you are entitled to.
This gives incentives for everyone to contribute to our growth as a collective civilization.
Of course a value system must be designed. What do we deem as "contribution"? What do we deem as highly valued "contribution"?
This all has to be worked out very carefully. You could prioritize our most important ambitions as a collective. Work towards free energy would be on top of the list as most valuable contribution to society. Then perhaps space travel. Revolutionary inventions that make the necessities of everyday life that much more easier to acquire. Etc.
A great contribution to one of these at the top of the list would mean, perhaps, many years worth of freedom.
With this sort of incentive I believe we'd be exploring other galaxies and living it up with free infinite energy in no time.
With a monetary system based directly on the value of contribution to society, there would be no room for the corrupt, no shortcuts to the top. Our growth as a collective would be stimulated with only the best of intentions involved -- there would be no other way.
Would do you think?

There are three key factors that we need to accomplish in order to set the world Free
1) Free energy - Solar, Geothermal, Wind, Tidal, Hydro, Nuclear Fusion
2) 20 Hour work week - Readjust the social programming of the population to accept a new paridigm of working less and making more
3) Zero Taxes - Paying on a debt that is quite literally impossible to pay is the definition of insanity. If it was possible to convince the masses that such a scheme was really ever achievable, then it is possible to convince the masses to accept zero taxation.

I should be set, high-rollin', ballin'... for the rest of my life, right?
