Turkish PM mulls Gaza Strip visit, says Lebanese newspaper

www.focus-fen.net

Ankara. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to visit the Gaza Strip to break the blockade imposed by Israel, Lebanese Al Mustaqbal newspaper writes, citing well-informed sources.
According to the news report Erdogan has notified the U.S. administration of his plans. He said he would ask Turkish military ships to escort the humanitarian convoy to Gaza. The U.S. authorities advised the Turkish prime minister to postpone his plans for now, the Lebanese newspaper writes.

That would sure be interesting. Let's see if he really does it and if he has enough balls.

Me thinks that either he would stop at the Israeli border... or if he considers Gaza to have it's own maritime border and would disregard Israel claims.

Because if Gaza is NOT Israel territory, it is it's own territory, therefore, they have a maritime border.

After all, why would Israel put a blockade against itself? By putting a blockade against Gaza, Israel have declared war on Gaza, Egypt too.

I hope he does it, that Israel does nothing, that the blockade ends, that a Palestinian state is created, and that they all sign a peace treaty and that the barbary of this area ends. That would sure be a great moment for the world.

So Israel what will it be? War against a NATO country or ending the illegal blockade which most of the world is opposed to? Barbary or decency?

In other news :
SWEDISH dockworkers will launch a week-long blockade of Israeli ships and goods arriving in the Nordic nation to protest Monday's attack on a Gaza-destined aid flotilla.

UPDATE: Now on SKYNEWS saying that he will in fact go with an escort of warships.... Waiting for Israeli reaction... Probably threats of war from their rightwing extremist government.

Well on SkyNews they said he's gonna do it... but I guess we'll see.

There's gonna be two ends possible to this. War or Israel ends it's blockade...

Hopefully Obama pushes behind the scene so Israel stop their BS.

If Erdogan does it and it breaks the Israeli blockade, I think they should give him the nobel peace prize... after all he deserves it a thousands times more than Afghanistan surge and bombing Pakistan Obama ever did...

Yep, the lebanese paper is quoted on ynetnews as well as sky. It's going to be a tense situation if it goes ahead, and it probably will lead to conflict.

the sources quoted are not credible.

I think you will find (should you care to look it up) that the blockade against Gaza is an Isreali / Egyptian initiative. The Israeli / Egyptian goal is to prevent the supply of arms to Hamas which is a terrorist organisation in the eyes of most Western nations (the EU and the US). Apart from firing 4,000 rockets into Israel, Hamas also like to use suicide bombers and calls for the destruction of Israel - they are not exactly a nice bunch of peace loving, tree huggers, so let's not treat them as such.

The tragedy is that the population of Gaza are suffering because of the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

To topic... The Turkish Prime Minister, Mr Erodgen is on a roll. He must be acutely aware of the stakes and the risks of further isolating Israel and pushing any peace process further away. There is alot of rhetoric and "preaching to the converted" going on, so talk of Erodgen visiting Gaza is probably just that. If he does visit, then he will do so as part of an agreement to control Hamas, which would lead to some interesting internal politics in Gaza because it would lead to Hamas losing influence and control. I very much doubt he would visit at the head of the Turkish navy and without a political agreement with Israel.

I expect Israel to realise that they need to change their policy and Turkey has positioned itself as the nation who could broker and broker an agreement and restrain Hamas, who have proven to be unpleasant actors in the recent past.

All the attention (negative) is focussed on Israel, but maybe Hamas could find the way clear to release the Israeli hostage Gilad Shalit who has been held by Hamas since 2006 and is one of the reasons Israel has blockaded Gaza.

Regards

That's what I said. Egypt AND Israel are waging war against Gaza.

The Israeli / Egyptian goal is to prevent the supply of arms to Hamas which is a terrorist organisation in the eyes of most Western nations (the EU and the US).

I know the whole story behind that. Don't you worry. Hamas was ELECTED, then the western nations cut the funding, then that made Hamas unable to run anything because they didn't have money, so the extremists of the party took over and boom, they were really terrorists then.

Democracy is a bitch eh when those you don't want to win, win?

Apart from firing 4,000 rockets into Israel,

Apart from killing almost no one in doing so, while Israel kills at least one person EVERY SINGLE TIME they open up on Gaza...

The tragedy is that the population of Gaza are suffering because of the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

Yep.

I expect Israel to realise that they need to change their policy

Yep.

In the end, I don't really care who's right and who's wrong, who started it... END THE BLOCKADE NOW, DO A PALESTINIAN STATE, SIGN A PEACE TREATY AND PUT ISRAEL INTO NATO.

Problem solved. Israelis should kick out those right-wing extremists running their government.

Well I must say hats off to the Turkish PM, I am in total agreement that its about time an elected head of state represented the feelings of the majority of people and stood up to the Israeli's.

If Gaza and Hamas have solid allies, it may be easier to stop confict on the Gaza side of this, Israel wouldnt surely board a ship that has another countries head of state, it would be like sending fighter jets to demand airforce one landed, its an act of war.

Well done Turkey!!!

This is not going to happend unless Erdogan is a mentally ill.If he is, and
he actually will do it, than the outcome will be devastating for Turkey.
The best i can see is a military coup in Turkey, and the worst is Turkey
beeing bombed by Israel.

Israel will not allow ANY ship thru the blockade, even if Erdogan is on it.
If there will be a clash between israeli ships and turkish ships, Israel
will actually attack a NATO vessel...but don't have wet dreams that NATO
will attack Israel in return.
NATO will be forced to do one of the following :
-apply art.5
or
-exclude Turkey from the alliance.

No more NATO or a NATO without Turkey?
Hmmm...hard to decide

However, i don't beleive Erdogan will do it, UNLESS something big is on the
cooking against Israel and US (can't go against Israel without hitting in US)

I will watch closely the situation, because i beleive that Erdogan might
actualy do it...and god help us if he do it.

Food, school books and utilities, cement, medicine...

You have a huge blind spot there in your eyes..

The goal of blockade is genocide.

Keep counting rockets. They all coming from Israel.

Turkey can only benefit from this, for years they have been critisised for not being humane, this is a perfect way to show its changed.

He WILL go, and there will be a huge responce for him when he gets to gaza, he'll be so popular there.

no way israeli jets would ever enter turkish airspace. the turks not only match israeli's in terms of up to date equipment standards and training but they have more of it. the turkish soldiers is just as valiant as the israeli as well.. in the end im not so sure the israeli would know what exactly hes fighting for, to keep the people of gaza starving? at least the turk would know his cause.. and that is an important psychological battlefield mindset.
